Very eerie thing happened this evening. I stepped out into the backyard and guess what I heard? Nothing. It was absolutely silent. No automotive sounds, no dog barks, just utter, deafening silence. I live in the middle of suburbia near the main avenue, and I always hear something. The silence really gave me pause.

Okay, then I take back my shocked response. That is a reasonable reason. If it is for the good of the people and not as a knee-jerk reaction, and can be lifted to allow actual testing to take place, I'm fine with that. I just have plenty of experience with government bureaucracy and the healthcare system and it has left a bad taste in my mouth. But those situations weren't looking out for the citizens' well-being. This one sounds like it is.

Wow! That is a pretty serious position to take before the science is even finished on it. Talk about knee-jerk reactions. I wonder who's going to be accountable for that decision. Good thing it's an election year.

Wow. Having spent a fair amount of time in ICU units working with providers, my heart goes out to all of them. This situation is going to push a lot of them to their limits. And we mustn't forget that after all those work procedures, they then go home and have to go through similar procedures to protect their family. Tell her we appreciate the work she and all the healthcare providers are doing.

We got word today that the company is WFH for the entirety of April now. I suspect that it will likely extend into May. Since we are in healthcare, we have to be extremely sensitive about our immunizations and such, so I'm sure that even if they lifted the travel bans at the end of April, the hospitals wouldn't want to see us for at least a couple more weeks. I realized today that I absolutely need to start going for walks. The cabin fever is starting to get heavy.

Also under the California shelter-in-place order. My wife is a special needs educator and is doing everything via Zoom including meeting with parents and other teachers. I'm a software implementation engineer, so I was already working periodically from home, so this has had zero impact on me, other than now being permanently home until further notice. However, most of my customers are healthcare, so as you might imagine, all the hospitals are canceling their projects and thus my customer work is now just trickling in if at all. It's giving us a lot of time to get internal initiatives completed before the tsunami of work hits us hard. I am far more concerned about my parents and in-laws who live in Kentucky and Tennessee respectively. They have no immediate family and if they are hit by it, it is going to be difficult in many ways.

Sacramento County just got hit with a shelter in place order starting at midnight tonight. No non-essential personnel or travel is allowed to further extend the efforts of social distancing. Looks like martial law is slipping in ever so slowly without being called that.

Viruses do mutate. That's part of the point of isolation - reduce mutation chances to give vaccine researches a fighting chance.

Cruise ships really need to go the way of the dodo. They are just floating petri dishes. I've gone on one cruise and it was horrible. Everyone else I talk to have nothing but horror stories. I don't understand how they continue to stay in business and grow.

My condolences as well Norm. My parents and in-laws live halfway across the country, so if they are adversely affected, it is going to be really tough to get to them given the state of travel now. It's going to be a struggle for a lot of people. The counseling business is likely to see a big boom when this is done.

As you read toward the bottom of that article you'll note the various governments tracking everyone for "contact purposes," and Trump just suspended all HIPAA restrictions "for telepresence purposes." Being someone that works directly in the healthcare IT infrastructure, there was zero need to remove HIPAA for telepresence. I'm not a conspiracy person, but the removal of HIPAA sure smells a whole lot like given full capability of tracking people now in the USA.

In the President's briefing this morning he said that they are currently testing their vaccine and having good success thanks to the initial testing that started in January. Thing I'm really confused about on that is that they only just isolated the virus, and the CDC is saying nothing about any sort of vaccine. I'm not entirely sure which parallel universe he's from, but I'm pretty sure that's not remotely true for our universe.
