  1. Re: Just testing interest:Would you would you be interested in this game?

The game would be a generational game spanning over a century. It would begin in the Victorian Era with the players portraying heroic characters of the time' date=' perhaps with some low level powers much like the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. It would progress over time with PCs playing the descendants or inheritors of their previous PCs abilities, or even completely new character in different eras of Superheroes. Pulp Mystery Men, Golden Age War World 2 Nazi busters, etc. with a overarching metaplot that could take them into a Star Spanning Galactic Champions setting.[/quote'] I did this as a 3-episode intro for my current campaign at 7th Sea. it worked fine.

But, with Champions, be careful about players who completly re-create their characters from a era to the other. be firm on the parts that could be changed and the others. Be also careful about abilities Ok for a genre but not the others - cool abilities in a victorian horror setting but useless in a Golden Age setting etc...- or make them immortal

  2. Hello Hero people.

A player of mine building a character for a game and i've got a couple of issues. I would like to get the opinions of the wise :

Background : loosely based on a small part of Marvel's Mandarin story. A long time ago; a powerful wizard managed to trap a powerful genie inside 10 magical rings. The PC found five of the rings and now used to fight for justice and all this kind of things.

    Powers

    Each ring is able to

    - Call one of the genie's power (a multipower)

    - to transform itself into a sentient double of the wearer at command. while in this form, the ring can only use its own power and the wearer cannot use this ring as long as it doesn't return to him -which he can do simply by calling it back to him -

    My current questions

    a) How much would you charge for the limitation "Only One duplicate can use a slot at a time and each slot must be fixed at the moment of duplication" ?

    i'm hesitating between -1/4 and -1/2

    B) how would you handle duplication with a focus ? what happens if the focus is taken away from a duplicate ? especially if the character is not able to call back his double at this time ?

    c) What do you think of the concept as a whole ? have you some ideas to improve it ? (in game terms and in RP terms)

"The Five Rings of Power", all slots IIF (Rings; -1/4)

    48

    1) "Five Rings, One Mind": Duplication (creates 4 300-point Duplicates), Easy Recombination (0-Phase Action at Full DCV), Ranged Recombination (+1/2); Feedback (Full) (; -1), Incantations (-1/4), IIF (Rings; -1/4)

    13

    2) "Five Rings; One mInd": Mind Link , Specific Group of Minds, Any distance, Number of Minds (x4), Psychic Bond; Only With Others Who Have Mind Link (-1), IIF (Rings; -1/4)

    40

"The Five Rings of Power": Multipower, 50-point reserve, Only One duplicate can use a slot at a time; Each slot must be fixed at the moment of duplication (-1/4)

    4u

    1) "The Ring of The Celestial Wrath": EB 10d6; IIF (Ring 1; -1/4)
    5

    4u

    2) "The ring of The Celestial Shield": FW (10 PD/10 ED); IIF (Ring 2; -1/4)
    5

    4u

    3) "The Ring of the Celestial Hand": Telekinesis (33 STR); IIF (Ring 3; -1/4)
    5

    4u

    4) "The Ring of the Celestial Night": Darkness to Sight Group 4" radius, Personal Immunity (+1/4); IIF (Ring 4; -1/4)
    5

    3u

    5) "The Ring of Celestial Light": Sight Group Flash 5d6, Area Of Effect (6" Cone; +1); No Range (-1/2), IIF (Ring 5; -1/4)
    5

    120

    Total Powers Cost

  3. Re: weird villain concepts

To 'Rechan" "Chairman Meaow" sounds like that white persian from the movie "Cats and Dogs". What about a writup on "The Russian" with his martial arts and his weapons hidden in hairballs ? (Gross !)
it also reminds of the mentalist persian in a Powerpuff Girls episode.
  4. Re: Character review: Lillith

Seeker ghosts: Mind scan, maybe with the "visible" limitation

Ghastly grasp I: Entangle, BOECV, take no damage from attacks, blocks t-port, cannot form barriers

Ghastly grasp II: ranged continuous STUN Drain or continuous NND energy blast.

    apparitions: Images, fixed effect

  5. sorry if i've skipped something but i don't find the answer to a question :

i found this in the FAQ

Q: Is Missile Deflection just an “extension†of Block, so that you could perform Blocks and Missile Deflections in the same Segment as part of a unified defense?

A: No. Missile Deflection functions using mechanics similar to Block, but it’s not an “extension†of Block per se. Both Block and Missile Deflection are Attack Actions, and as such end a character’s Phase. Combat Skill Levels that affect Block do not automatically apply to Missile Deflection, though some may depending on how they’re defined.

now you have "Missile Deflection" purchased with a "concentration" limitation on it.

As MD uses the same mechanics than block (11+DCV ...) but is not block ...

which DCV must i use for missile-deflecting purpose ?

    - my normal DCV

    - my DCV modified by the "Concentration" limitation (1/2 or 0)

  6. Re: Favorite Abuse

    my worst :

a "booster" adjustement power (aid, absorption, succor) with the "can add adders" advantages and another power with a 2x effect for 5 pts. (duplication being the first to come to mind (absorption vs PD to duplication, can add adders: Marvel's Multiple Man is there)

One of my players once tried to come with the following combo :

    - desolidification

    - summon, affects real world.

    summoned beings are

    - invisible to sight, hear and mental sense group

    - can X-D themselves back to their world with several levels of "increased mass"

    - have a lot of levels in martial grab...

another classic is the NND, Does Body, 0 END, continuous, uncontrolled, increased maximum range (several times), no range penalty, 1 pip RKA.

for something like 5 pts base and 30 to 50 active points, all you've got to do is install quietly your PC at a long distance, shoot again and again and wait. if the target spots you, just run away a bit further.

  7. Re: What's the most ridiculous PC you've ever been subjected to?

Urgh. Not quite up the standard of the first post (what could be) but... JanitorMan. For reasons I absolutely cannot fathom the player really wanted this character and submitted a sheet several times. A super-strong' date=' tough janitor (No, it wasn't explained why) who fought with a mop, had extra running (floorwax) and a couple of other equally odd powers. His secret identiy was .... a Janitor![/quote']Surprinsingly, i'm not too shocked by this one.

A player of my group recently tried to make several characters from the manga "Hunter x Hunter" a bit like this. ideas included :

    - The hero Gon, a super-strong 12 yrs old boy with a favorite "weapon" (a fishing line!) and a martial technique based on "rock-paper-scissor"

    - one of the bad guys : a teen-age girl with a nerdish look and a "magic" vacuum-cleaner (able to store litteraly tons of stuff inside itself)

    - a 10 yrs old little girl (actually in her 70's: retarded aging) whose hability is to summon a magic aesthetician (see retarded aging above)

    - one of the heroes' brother : main ability : shape shifting a la Mystique although he needs to stabilize the alternate form by pinching nails through his body

  8. Re: Help with a character concept

OK this brings up another question then. (And I am sorry' date=' I do not have my books here at work to look it up myself, or I might be able to answer it myself) If I do like I was thinking about and putting his main attack into one non ultra slot, so he can decide how many shots to fire at one target, and use another slot with AoE to simulate spreading his attacks among multiple targets, does he need levels with autofire or the special multi attack skills to use them?[/quote']

I'm unsure but the autofire skills seem to be made especially for that.

  9. Re: Challenge: "Pope" as a Package Deal

    Extensive' date=' lavish headquarters.[/quote']

The Vatican City ! extensive ???

About a billion followers' date=' some of them very powerful on their own.[/quote']

Contacts rather: a good 100 pts

    Swiss Guards.

Trained humans (50 pts each) : I don't know their number however.

    The PopeMobile.

armored but slow and unaesthetics : 10 pts

How many points is it worth a Pope Package Deal?

For the social lims OK (public ID) but i think we're heading right to the flame war if we discuss Psychological lims ...

  10. Re: Superhero Pope: Ridiculous or Sublime?

Will he have a sidekick called Cardinal Robin who says "Batsh!t' date=' Holy Man!"[/quote']Nah, Popeman would never allow his sidekick to swear.

Besides, it reminds me of Confessor and Altar Boy in Astro City. i should reread the story arc.

I am appalled that such a comic would be written. I can see making a comic about his life as a way to get kids to read it. But to make the Pope a metahuman?

"John-Paul II and the Raiders of Lost Arc", "J.P. II and Silent bob strike back", "John Paul II: the musical" along with the TV show "John-Paul II, Vampire Slayer" are likely to be directed by Joss Whedon very soon.

    Or so i heard.

  11. Re: llama = the new Detect junkie

    This being Hero...

Detect Relevant Information (10 Active Points); Concentration (½ DCV, -¼), Extra Time (1 Turn, -1¼), No Conscious Control (-2), Vague and Unclear (-½) (2 Real Points)

    :nonp: ...
  12. Re: Premonition?

I wanted a friendly NPC to get premonitions from time to time, that may help the team. I don't want to use danger sense, as this will most likely be out of combat. They will get hunches and glimpse near future occurrences. I want them to be vague and in rare cases dreams.

    Any Suggestions?

    Claisentience

    * base sense group is sight group (20pts),

    * hearing group (+10pts)

    * precognitive (+20pts)

    + 0 END: +1/2

    - no conscious control (-2)

    - vague and unclear (-1/2)

    Base points : 50 pts

    Active points : 75 pts

    Total points : 21 pts

  13. Re: What's the most ridiculous PC you've ever been subjected to?

One of my players, last year, came to me with the following concept after watching too much "a simple life" :

Basically his character was a duo (duplication for playing two characters instead of one) : A girl clearly based on Paris Hilton and a little french poodle named "Boobie". Basically at any hint of danger, the girl was fainting and immediatly turn unconscious. This triggered the multiform of the little poodle into a four-armed, three meter-tall werewolf almost permanently berzerk.

The other players forced this player to give up this concept after she/it kills two thirds of the team in a test fight.

  14. Re: DinoMite

    Thanks for your replys.

So I plan on moving forward with the plan of the attack on London without any Intelligence from DinoMite as he is recuperating in hospital.

I was seeing DinoMite to actually double-cross Teleios and conquer Britain for himself but i haven't find the time to refine the idea. (humans are so tasty)

I plan on attacking The Houses of Parliment' date=' Buckingham Palace, new Scotland Yard, MI5/6 offices and the Supers/ FIST Base (think Until) and taking lots of hostages. Where else would you attack? RAf bases maybe? Nuclear Sub pens in Scotland perhaps?[/quote']

    * Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ) to disrupt the ECHELON network and cut Britain from its allies. probably also major TV/radio emitters or phone lines to delay intevention from superheroes or armed forces.

    * Heathrow Airport : or at least screw air traffic a lot, for the same reasons.

I don't think the high command would be eager to launch an assault with planes or subs in such a crowded area so i wonder: is there really a need to waste troops in attacking RAF (except maybe helicopters or air cargos - to keep aid from coming-)

So after Telios has London what is he going to do with it?
Keep Charles from marrying Camilla. No sane genetician could allow those two to breed.
  15. Re: Reincarnation Power

I'm building a race that when it dies, its spirit reincarnates in another animal body being born nearby. Its a cat race and when they are slain, their spirit finds the nearest kitten being born and is reborn in that body. After two months, it has all of its former memories/abilities and even begins to change back into its former self physically.

The body wouldn't "resurrect" as per normal with the power, and it might be some time before the character came back.

Since the original body is nothing but a soulless shell; i guess there's no way to resurrect the cat by using a resurrection spell on it.

IFAIK, the resurrection power would do it fine.

    "nines lives"

    Healing (1 BODY/turn)

    * resurrection (condition of death to define)

    + 0 END, Persistent +1

    + full IPE +1

    - Self only -1/2

    - delayed return rate (full body in 2 months see according to the cat's Body)

    - Only to come back from death -1

    - Side effect (amnesia till full body recovered) -1

    "metempsycosis"

    a) Teleportation

+ Megascale (see according to your needs) +3/4

+ Trigger (fixed: at death) +1/4

    + 0 END +1

    - Only to the nearest kitten -1/2

    B) shapeshift (sight group, smell/taste group, touch group) to single form (kitten)

    - only after a T-Port -1/2

    - one charge of 2 months (charge recovered at the death of this body: difficult to recover)

Otherwise, you can built the spirit as a computer and the cat body as a automaton; it's also a classic way to do it.

  16. Re: Two that make one

Probably more something like "Captain Planet" than Firestorm IIRC.

If this character is a NPC :

    Give them both

    Let's call ... The Force !!

    Mind link (single mind)

    * no line of sight required

    * psychic bond (?)

    - Only with other w/mind link (-1)

    - Only to activate "the force" (-1)

    And then summon

    Let's call ... The Force !!

    Summon (character xxx total pts)

    + Slavishly loyal +1

    - Only when both characters concentrate: -1/4 to -1/2

    - One summoned creature for the two characters : -1/2

If the character is a PC. the construct above is still valid but there's other problems :

    - Are Abby and Betty played by the same player ?

    - who will play "the Force" ? the GM (Summon) or the player (Duplication) ?

Case 1 : one player for Abby, one player for Betty, the GM plays Force

    => like NPC

Case 2 : one player for Abby and Betty, the GM plays Force

=> like NPC but he'd also have to take (IMHO)

    Duplication (To Abby/Betty)

    + Altered duplicate +1/4 to +1/2

    - Cannot recombine (-0)

    so he'd play the pair.

Case 3 : one player for Abby, Betty and Force

"i'm Abby and my friend is Betty"

    Duplication (To Abby/Betty)

    + Altered duplicate +1/4 to +1/2

    - Cannot recombine (-0)

    Let's call ... The Force !!

    Mind link (single mind)

    * no line of sight required

    * psychic bond (?)

    - Only with other w/mind link (-1)

    - Only to activate "the force" (-1)

    Let's call ... The Force !!

Duplication(2) (One character xxx total pts)

    + Altered Duplicate 100% +1

    + Ranged recombination +1/2

    - Only when both characters concentrate: -1/4 to -1/2

    - One duplicate for the two characters : -1/2

    - Feedback (??) on both characters: -1/2

NB: Normally this kind of construct would require a shared power i.e. a power whose cost is shared between different characters, and thus only able to activate when the different characters are in physical contact (check "The Ultimate Vehicle" if you can). As it's only a mental contact required; i don't think it would work.

  17. Re: Where do superpowers come from?

    No gods, no magic.

    (...)

Superpowers appear for the first time around the beginning of the 21st century (say, 2010-ish). Extremely rare and/or isolated superhumans may have existed throughout history, but they should be (at the risk of repeating myself) rare and isolated.

    Two main possibilities :

    a) something purely accidental or natural

    B) something deliberate

    a) Usually it implies some event with worldly consequences (unless you want a very localized setting)

    - Lord Liaden already came with the idea of reality warping pulses. Similarly the CU has its "mana waves".

    - The "big thing crashes on Earth" already mentioned : a meteor (or at least something the characters call "the Flash") in "Rising Stars", a falling satellite in "Aberrant".

As you say that some superhumans may have existed throughout history; it might not be the solution.

    - A virus like in Wildcards (i don't know this setting a lot, i fear)

    - A chemical incident (Static Shock)

    B) something deliberate.

    - A alien race once manipulated humanity's DNA thousands of years ago. a evil corporation discovers the truth and decides to unlock the genetic blocks so humanity can develop superpowers. (Un)fortunately things went AWOL (virus spread in earth atmosphere, satellite randomly fires its activation rays...) and superpowers appear randomly within the population (freely inspired from Guyver).

    - A government (but it implies to see superpowers only appear in a small area)

    - Symbiotes : the superpowers actually come from some kind of microscopic living beings (prions for example) who recently crashed on earth. When one of these prions found a host, it randomly mutates the poor sod into something else (it implies that paranormals are usually ugly ... and possibly contagious ...)
