  1. Re: Manhunt: The Greatest Game On Earth

The Northern Territory: The island state runs a four hundred kilometer stretch along the 487 transit line. Cutting like a spine through the badlands The Northern Territory starts at Ayers Rock and ends at the Northern Gap. The state consists of a series of plateaus both natural and man made. The state provides gold and other natural resources to the BHNAB Colony.

Manhunts hosted in The Northern Territory take place in the desert and mountains surrounding the state as well as below the city itself in the Black Marshes. Stalkers from The Northern Territory are said to be fearless, hardy and cruel. In the Badlands villages commonly center around resource deposits such as old oil wells or valleys with fertile soil. These villages tend to be well defended using terrain and the tools available to them to their best advantage. The Northern Territory Badlands are also home to roving scavengers and raiders.

On the Manhunt circuit the The Northern Territory Badlands are ranked as the 2nd most deadly terrain for Stalkers. Many of the games greatest Stalkers have made their name in the The Northern Territory Badlands including Britannia's twins of Terror Roper and Ripper and Southern Star's Wrangler. A special bounty has been placed on the head of The Northern Territory badlands gang leader Lachlan The Bladed.

Small problem with GPS - depending on the nature of the disaster' date=' the GPS satellites (remember those? :) ) may not be functioning - or even "up there" at all.[/quote']

In the worse case scenario for rebuilding society I think GPS is out major terraforming equipment is in. Bulldozers, cranes all sorts of fun industrial equipment. Water would be a key necessity so the ability to create a reservoir would be important. The teams location may be strategically placed next to a large, hopefully, reliable source of water such as an underground river.

  3. Re: Morrow Project

The Rose brings up a good point. This site should likely be in or near a Seed Arc or similar resource for a worst case scenario. As this is a thread for a game we know there's going to be action and adventure galore. To take a step back and look at what the actual logistics of an undertaking like this would most likely be the image and scope of the project seems to instantly spiral out in size.

The team would likely need to be a large cross sampling of genetic backgrounds. Would it be unreasonable for a group of 100, 1000 or event 10,000? The idea of survivability rates would have to be factored in both in the sleep process and in a worst case environment upon emerging. This team would need to possess or have access to the collective skills and knowledge required to facilitate a ground up rebuilding of agriculture, one may presume other vital skills as well including most engineering fields along with the tools to facilitate this task. Presumably this team would have building materials if only from breaking down and reusing the storage chamber itself. Depending on the size of the project it seems that designing the storage facility to be broken down post deployment would make sense in saving space.

Returning to the team more than likely they would also be evenly paired female to male or possess a higher number of females to males. All those chosen for the project confirmed to be reproductively comparable, fertile and AB+ to say the least. The idea of an planned breeding program and sufficient medical facilities doesn't seem unreasonable. Monogamy on the other hand might be, when thinking about this as a case of survivability for the human race. Although, it should be apparent by the requirements team is also more likely to consist of scientists albeit military scientists ensuring a degree of physical aptitude, fitness along with weapons and self defense trailing.

  4. Re: Manhunt: The Greatest Game On Earth

Have you seen Battle Angel (or read the manga)? I only watched the anime' date=' but it has the stratification you outline, with the super wealthy citizens living above in floating cities. It doesn't have the badlands (that I can recall), but there a certain lawlessness prevails in the cities below, and (televised?) cage matches to the death.[/quote']

Actuallythe Manga for Battle Angel Alita was another one of the influences. As the series progressed you did get to see some of the world outside of Scrapyard which was mostly a wasteland. If you have a chance I highly recommend the first series. When putting together notes for the initial post I found out there is a new series that picks up from where the original left off. The death matches of Battle Angel were something like cyborg cage matches. I didn't list Battle Angel here since the technology was far more advanced and the entitled society really took little to no interest in the events on Earth so long as production flowed.

For Manhunt I pictured a lower tech future, The Nation States have the technology to obtain or refine what resources the colonies need and in return they are supplied with money, food and medical supplies. One of the things I see as being a kind of a possible storyline is the idea of Stalkers receiving the best gear a Nation State can salvage and or build. These people would be national heroes bringing prosperity to the Nation State at the expense of vagrants lost in the wastes. On the other side of that you have Badlanders who are simlpy trying to live outside the control of the Colonies. They would lack the resources of the Nation States but would have a wider area to salvage in. When I think of the Badlanders I pictured something akin to Lester and his gang from Cherry 2000. Although, the Great Humongous and the village form the Road Warrior are equally as valid.

There have been a lot of good suggestions so far let me see what I summarize and build on for the concept. Note: Condoms are right out, we're rebuilding remember?

Seeds and enriched soil for crops that can withstand various environments.

Medicines, various (antibiotics, steroids and vitamins)

    Air purifier

Water purifier, tablets and filtration system if space provides

    Renewable energy source.

    Expanded set of multi-tools

Portable data storage with documentation on modern, industrial and pre-industrial technologies for civil engendering , tool and weapon building.

    Geiger-counter or other approximate device

Sealant and epoxy, preferably an expanding foam

    Non-biodegradable rope

    The BFG 9000, pocket edition

    Porn

    Chicken

  6. The year is 2219, after the great floods of the 21st century those who could afford to went went sub orbital. Around the globe those left behind were forced to make due as ice caps melted and every continent was rocked with earthquakes and storms consuming the coasts and devastating the remaining cities. Humanity though are survivors. As the Earth settled into it's new form so did the nations of the world. Vast industrial centers cropped up around the world feeding their masters above.

Society on the ground evolved into loosely federated nations states serving the different Colonies. All led by the promise of some day buying their way into utopia. The Colonies used this carrot masterfully to craft modern surfs. This however could not last forever. Some rebelled fleeing into the badlands left behind by the meltdown, others rioted or worse.

To quell the machine the Colonies created competitions between each other. Games of chnace or sport. Sport turned to war and the masses had to be sated once more. The masters within the Colonies saw those below and their need for blood from this Manhunt was born.

Held in different locations around the world Manhunt takes teams of four Stalkers from each nation and sets them loose in the badlands. The teams compete over six days for the highest body count, while killing another team's Stalkers earn you a bonus. Winners of the game receive cash prizes and adulation from the Colonies in the form of Sub Orbital medical care and increased food rations for the Nation. Should a Stalker win sixty games they earn a Golden Ticket retiring to a life of luxury in the Colonies above.

    - - -

So that's the idea. Right now I'm thinking players would take the roll of a team of Stalkers or as a group of badlanders trying to survive. The characters would likely be build on 200 (125 + 75) points with them being required to buy any gear with points, no equipment. It's all televised so you have to fit your image right? From these points the characters would need to purchase a vehicle along with anything else. No super powers or psionics although I'm on the fence about things like cybernetics. Morality is gray and Character death would be very likely.

Something you may want to be careful of' date=' read the EULA. I know in Everquest II the EULA says (or used to anyway) says that SOE owns all characters that are created on their servers, including player made characters. Even these Hero Games boards say (if I remember correctly) they own whatever is put down here. I would put up a post, PM, or email making sure no one has a problem with it.[/quote']

  8. Re: The Silver Age

I suppose an important question is, is the game just set during the 'silver age', or is it intended to have a silver age tone?

You can easily have a rusty iron, bronze age, or modern amalgam style game set in '66.

The year is tentatively 1966 as that seemed to be when around the time the Silver Age hit some major milestones. It's really intended to be set during the Silver Age and carry the tone and themes of the age.

  9. Re: A proposal

I was going over your guidelines and wanted to try and clarify a few things. When you are talking about screenshots are you looking for images for each frame or would you need something more like the principle character front, sides, back and maybe some action shots? Also for scripting here is a sample of the formatting we used:

Castles Made of Sand: A Wanderer’s Tale

Prelude: In The Shadow of The City

    Page 1:

Panel 1 [splash Panel]: Tight shot of a Katana and the Stop Sign axe crossed. Both Hippie Man and the Slum Lord are out of frame.

Caption: I don’t know this man’s name. The children call him the Slum Lord. This place is called the Horror Show. The Hunters won’t come near it. It’s not that they don’t care. They do.

Panel 2: The Slum Lord pushes the katana out of the way. The Slum Lord is visible in here Hippie Man is not.

Caption: I’ve seen them. This place, the Horror Show, is too wild. It grabs you. The squalor, the suffering, it is everything the Hunter’s feared for man after the Long Night

Panel 3: Hippie Man rolls, one knee on the ground he steadies himself with his sword.

Caption: The worst part is it’s in their back yard. No one talks about it inside the city. That’s because no one knows what to do about it.

Panel 4 [splash Panel]: Tight shot of Hippie Man’s face, the Slum Lord rearing back bringing the Stop Sign Axe up above his head.

  10. Re: Supervillains Who Know Their Limitations

    The Head Cheese
: This villain wants to control the dairy industry in Wisconsin. Many of his plots involve "cheese bombs" that have various effects, depending upon the source cheese (IE: Limburger smells bad; mozerella forms an entangle, etc.)

For a very brief moment I thought that villain was about to go in a very, very different direction.

Calamity: The muscle headed ruler of Rhode Island

  11. Re: A proposal

This sounds like a fun idea, I had worked on a webcomic with an artist I knew but it fell through. I think I'd really enjoy putting something together with you in the Champions Universe.

  12. Re: Lantern Corps...Only Not

So Red would involve almost all fighting' date=' Orange, still pretty brutal, but has a small bit of non-fighting chi powers etc.?[/quote']

Hollowing the concepts presented there are several powered options for each. For example:

Red: In keeping with the Berserker theme they may have powers based around the Enraged Disadvantage this could be things like Strength, Combat Skill levels or Damage Shields with a Trigger of when they become enraged. They might also have powers that increase their damage output and the damage output of others. With this school I would think things like Lightning Reflexes would also be common.

Orange: For control I would look at things like Change Environment, Darkness, Entangles, Flash and maybe things like Telepathy and Mind Control depending on the flavor you want to go with. These powers can easily scale becoming AOEs as the Orange student grows in skill. For actual martial arts I would look at Grabs Joint Locks, Reversals and Trakedown. This may overlap with Blue signifigantly but I think their actual powers will create a large difference.

Yellow: Here I think Presence is the name of the game as you said. A nice large Pre to inspire and demoralize as needed. To supplement that things like Drains, Find Weakness (Maybe with Usable on others later on), Growth (Again later on with usable on others), Images, Mental Illusions and Negative Skill Levels could all work to intimidate or inspire. For a actual fighting style this becomes a little tricky, why might work is a basic kind of style with Combat Skill Levels for Successful Intimidation rolls.

  13. Re: Lantern Corps...Only Not

Here would be my take on this concept:

Red - Aggression - Take the initiative, act before your foes can react. Victory is not won by defense it is taken by those with the strength of will to push bast all obstacles.

Orange - Control - In battle one seeks to obtain every advantage be it superior weapons, footing, choosing the battle field, troop numbers or other resources.

Yellow - Morale - The battle is won long before a sword is ever drawn. Those who lack confidante lack the will to achive victory. To obtain victory one must inspire their own forces and crush the will of their opponents.

Green - Discipline - All battles are chaos, the master or combat and leader of men must be able to see through this fog. Understanding and preparation for the enemy's tactics are paramount to victory.

Blue - Balance - If the enemy is strong one must learn to use that strength against them. In a foe is cunning they will inevitably out wit themselves. To find balance one must adapt to any circumstance it is here where true strength lies.

Indigo - Diplomacy - In war the most deadly of foe is the one who can change the minds and wills of others. The art of the diplomat is in giving up of value to obtain something of far greater value. This does not always mean the loss of life.

Violet: - Leadership - A battle can only be won if those who fight understand what victory entails. Lieutenants must be able to convey a generals orders and troops must be able to rally behind their leaders.

I like the concept of a kind of monastic order with seven guiding principles. Students learning how first to apply their chosen principle at an individual level then at the squad, platoon or larger scale as they progress in understanding. To this point maybe all the suggestions you presented are valid. In the beginning they learn martial arts and might possess a basic power or two from their training. At a higher rank they are given a weapon office. At the highest level they receive a ring or other item that embodies their chosen principle.

well said vulcan ' date='but i think sluggingthe gm would have you liable for assault charges, just walk out peacefuly and don't make a scene[/quote']

So Georgia has these things on the books called Fighting Words, effectively a way to hit first and not be charged. I wonder if he could argue that that would be the gamer equivalent.
