  1. Re: Spell: Faerie Fire?

This is a result of a need to trak donw an elf (who happen to be a party member). The choice of making everyone have a sense instead of changing the enviroment was because the villian wanted to be sure that the area could not be dispelled, you would have to cast a dispell area or dispell each person.

one the villian wanted the orcs to see the elf, to track the elf and to show if the elf was hiding in a tree or house ect. so the three linked effects.

    here is the basic's

    Cost Power END

6 Detect Elf: Detect A Class Of Things 12- (Discriminatory, Sense, Tracking), Indirect (Same origin, always fired away from attacker; +1/4), Trigger (+1/4), Usable By Other (+1/4), Megascale (1" = 10 km; +1/2), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2), Uncontrolled (+1/2) (58 Active Points); Independent (-2), 1 Continuing Charges lasting 1 Day each which Never Recover (-1 3/4), Extra Time, Only to Activate Constant or Persistent Power (5 Minutes; -3/4), Character May Take No Other Actions (-1/4), OAF (-1), Always On (-1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Requires both hands (-1/4), Conditional Power (Power does not work in Common Circumstances; -1/2), Increased Endurance Cost (2x END; -1/2), Linked to sense elf trail (-1/2), Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4), Incantations (-1/4) [Notes: Cause all Elf in area to glow to affected target] 12

4 sense elf trail: Detect A Class Of Things 12- (Discriminatory, Sense, Tracking), Indirect (Same origin, always fired away from attacker; +1/4), Trigger (+1/4), Usable By Other (+1/4), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2), Megascale (1" = 10 km; +1/2), Uncontrolled (+1/2) (58 Active Points); 1 Charges which Never Recover (-4), Extra Time (5 Minutes; -2), OAF Expendable (Extremely Difficult to obtain new Focus; -2), Independent (-2), Linked to ??? (-1/2), Lesser Power can only be used when character uses greater Power at full value (-1/4), Always On (-1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), Conditional Power (Power does not work in Common Circumstances; -1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Requires both hands (-1/4), Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4), Incantations (-1/4) [Notes: allows affected to see trail (foot prints ) where elf has been] 6

4 Dectect Elf in contact : Detect A Class Of Things 12- (Custom Adder, Discriminatory, Sense, Tracking), Indirect (Same origin, always fired away from attacker; +1/4), Trigger (+1/4), Usable By Other (+1/4), Area Of Effect (One Hex; +1/2), Megascale (1" = 10 km; +1/2), Uncontrolled (+1/2) (58 Active Points); 1 Charges which Never Recover (-4), OAF Expendable (Extremely Difficult to obtain new Focus; -2), Independent (-2), Extra Time (1 Turn (Post-Segment 12); -1 1/4), Character May Take No Other Actions (-1/4), Linked to Detect Elf (-1/2), Lesser Power can only be used when character uses greater Power at full value (-1/4), Always On (-1/2), Concentration (0 DCV; -1/2), Conditional Power (Power does not work in Common Circumstances; -1/2), Gestures (-1/4), Requires both hands (-1/4), Increased Endurance Cost (2x END; -1/2), Costs Endurance (Only Costs END to Activate; -1/4), Incantations (-1/4) 12

    Powers Cost: 14

now it is in an oaf scroll and the gestures, incan are to fire the trigger.

one mistake wasw the x2 endurance (time should be state as takes a minute) the orc leader was given the scroll used it and promtly knock himself out. so the ors went into battle (the hunt ) leaderless.

now the villian also used Lab, helpers, a day to cast the spell on the scroll and expense and visible, still working out how to build scrolls .

could have done change enviroment but that was an easier effect to dispell

    The players where not amused

  2. Re: Dramatic Hooks?

The read Intresting thing is that champions provides Dramatic hook in the charater creations process.

    Limitaions

Many times have i sat down before a game reviewed my players charaters and gleame a session from a NPC or hunted (the easy ones) i have seem to roll 3 ones on watch rolls and gotten a hunted result.

The one that conviced me that disadvantages where excellent was when after discovering Trebs Hero range Id in combat the villians researched him and then Help his Dnpc sister regain her ability to walk - - - oh by the way Phone for you it your sister -villian to ranger over the empire state building.

    Hooks should be used gently.

Funny that this conversation has come up, in my new Fanasty game I am having trouble getting a player to do anything I got a meta hook in that he ows his family money which is working well. But every other adventure offerd has been turn down. I am keep a list of thease adventures. so this is a valid point in GMing.

How do you hook, what bait to big a line and the fish see it and bolt.

  3. Re: Pulp Sci-Fi

Spy rays. On the science channel the news show had a story on T rays ( i guessing really long wave lenght) could see thorugh walls, apperalently you can focus them and see an image thourgh a building and in the next one. Spy ray are on the way.

  4. Re: Pulp Sci-Fi

Thanks Chuckg for that post! My klingon commit referred to the way they ate thier own, in order to advance and in order to instill discipline and order.

The point is the greatest praise is to steal . . . . know the basics so that at least you know you are copying (klingons come from Mr Rodenberry's love of Orietnal culture, personal opion.)

  5. Re: Name for a Future Tech Explosive

Explosives have been named in general on their look and feel, such as Black powder, guncotton, plastic and detonator cord. Modern explosives have been named on their chemical names such as TNT, RDX, and Nitro glycerin. Finally explosive named on their job or government name, Torpex (developed for the U.S. Navy just before WWII) C-4, detonator cord. And Simtex (check C-4).

So how about stable putty, safe boom or stablex.

  6. Re: Pulp Sci-Fi

Oh the Horror, . . sorry big fan here, read Galatic Patrol first. One thing about the series it gets big. Fleet actions with grand tatics , the cone, the sphere and the cylinder. weapons like the negaspheres and the sun ray. The good guys win because they are good. Boskone (the bad guys) taught the Klingons a thing or two. Civilization (the good guys) rules .

  7. Re: Pulp Sci-Fi

E.E. "Doc" Smith, Wrote the Lensmen seris of books. The frist Galatic patrol came out in 1939. Doc was a Physicist and did important work during WWII. After the war he wrote triplanetary, frist lensmen, (Prequels), secound stage lensmen and children of the lens (I am missing one i think). His work gave us hyperspacail tubes, planets as weapons, Old old races ect Tolkein and EE where quoted as inspiration for Bab 5

When Space Opera is sited his story was the first sucess and set the standard (as Tolkien did for high Fantasy.

  8. Re: Achoo . . ..

Jm you are my Hero (for a moment at least) the entangle aspect was what was throwing me.

I did think of the old cantrip but in my new Fanasty Hero game an spy used a pepper attack on a player (flash).

Defanetly on track need to put in where a player can stop himself (old finger under the noise gag).

    Thanks for the Help

  9. Re: Achoo . . ..

Thanks for the reply and commit!

Notice your avatar, nice and discription. Knights of the Dinner Table comic has a story line where one of the players gets a hold of an evil sword. The GM brings in anther GM who plays the Evil Sword. Funny see the Kenzer and company (Hackmaster site) comics section.

But a Sneeze, make the target sneeze.

  10. Re: We're Gonna Need Guns

Acorrding to a friend of mine who worked for the FBI the .22 was used because it was the quietest of guns and the bullet most of the time deformed win it hits (mainly bone). Hits take place at a few feet since the main target is the head. (check out goodfellows or casino (moivies). The germans develepoded a silenced luger which fell into allied hands in Eygt which the Oss liked so they developed the silence .22 it was so quiet that Wild Bill Donvan head of the Oss took it to show FDR. As the President was talking on the Phone W.B. shot his pillow full of holes on the couch next to him and FDR did not notice. FDR then proceeded to shoot up the office! It ended up on display for tours where an Oss agent reporting to the White house notice it a year later (1943) where it had sat for all to see! (This from the bio on Wild Bill)

There have been many studies on leathality.

    Mass times velocity.

but to fast and the bullet goes through the body and cause less damage.

    .357 +P is best (max v)

but the 45 is very good large mass x low v

and one State police study of the 1950 conside the cap and ball .44 -50 as the best man stopper. lots of mass and the slow moving ball transfers all of the enegery to the target.

    :bmk:

  11. How would you build a ward that would cause a person (animal?) to sneeze when they come into the area of effect. This could possible be discribed as a flash (one segment).

    Thanks

  14. Thanks for reply,

    But . ...

Hero is holding in Phase 12 and on his next phase what is his combat value?Hero has made his PER roll.

Dose it cost hero Endurance to have a Combat Value?

Since 1982 I have charge the PC one Endurane a segemnt to have a full DCV OCV, in running FRED my players have Balked at this. I base this now on the fact that a stunned character is at 1/2 DCV and a surprised character is at 1/2 DCV, taking a Recovery is at 1/2 DCV (page 285 paragraph 5 col 1), and page 286 col 1 and paragraph 1.

An Offical ruling Would be Welcome

    Lord Ghee

  15. Dear Mr. Long

In Reading The Manual (RTM) I have a few questions on Endurance and Combat value.

On Page, 237 column 2, 1st paragraph; A character using Combat movement has his full DCV and OCV. . …

On Page, 286 Column 1 1st paragraph: Actions requires some energy, and this is reflected in the game by requiring characters to use Endurance (END) to perform Physical feats.

On Page, 286 column 3rd Paragraph: Some Maneuvers and other action don’t have a listed STR value; in such cases, a character spends 1 END. . . . . .

Question one, if a charter spends less than 5 pts of power such as 2†of movement is the Endurance cost 0 ( as in the cost rounds down).

Hero is standing in a room makes a PER roll and determines that Ninja is outside The Gamemaster declares segment 12 and Hero declares that he is holding his action.

What is Hero combat value? (Full, ½ or 0 DCV and OCV)

Ninja on his DEX rank ½ moves 2†into the room and strikes at Hero.

Question does Ninja spends 1 END on movement and his strike strength cost?

Hero declares abort to a block spending 1 END on the block and can he spend 1 on movement with out moving to get his full DCV?

In other words do you have to spend at least one Endurance in order to get your full OCV and DCV even if you do not move?

And if you move and use anther action do you at least have to spend at least one Endurance for each of the move and action (minimum 2).

Lastly to use a power that uses Endurance must you at least spend at least one Endurance and dose Endurance round off.

    Thanks

    Lord Ghee

  16. Re: Sailing from Venice to Cairo

Galley a ship propelled with oars.

Galleasses later galleys that where big a combanation of the sailing ship and galley the spanish used them had four in the Armada.

Captain Kidd (early 1700) the pirate hadl the adventure built to use oars as an auxiliary system.

since a ship loaded with men to row did not carry much cargo and the rowers could fight galleys became the fighting type since Jason and the argonaunts until the sailing ship tech could carry more guns (1580 plus)
