  1. I love to concept of Adrain Monk as a super hero, I am going to do the stats on him. A great NPC! I hate to include them, but the Power Rangers actually fit as super heroes. So do the various Super Friends that never actaully appeared in the Comics Apache Chief!
  2. Working with those who are new to the Hero system, but not comics is interesting. I was trying to generate a “dimension traveling†campaign and wanted the PC’s to face the X-Men from the 1980’s. I know there are hundreds of versions of them out there, but I wanted them balanced with a group of 350 PC. (I know most of the X-Men would cost a lot more in some generations). I wanted 6 characters I had no trouble with Colossus, Cyclops, Wolverine, or Storm. Rogue was right out (she simply was away) The two that were problems were Shadowcat and Nightcrawler. Hurt was doable; I simply had to tone down his teleporting. Kitty was not. She can phase up to at least 8 times her own mass, where they are willing or not. (Desolid [+ 1 Usable as an Attack; + ¾ Up to 8X mass] = 110), her ability to dispute electronics must be at least 30 to 40 active points (which become 90 to 120 with the +2 for effect solids). She is also a Ninja post Kitty Pryde and Wolverine. This got me thinking, she is a wonderful example of two things. One a character that is expensive to generate using the Hero system. More interestingly she is also an example of a character that has used experience. When she first appeared she could only faze herself (40 points); she gradually learned to use her power in more ways. The whole Kitty Pryde and Wolverine LS is a classic example of a Radiation accident. So I simply created a playable version of Kitty pre-Ninja at 350. Now to my question. Can you think of other characters from comics that really show growth in Champions like manner? My list would certainly include all the Original X-Men, The Fantastic Four, the various Bat allies, Iron Man and more. Can you think of others?
  3. I was just wondering what people thought of the general power levels of UNTIL and VIPER agents in the respective books that have been published for both groups. Let me start by saying this are wonderful resourses that I plan to use a lot. I have one simple problem, the power level of the agents is too high. Sure I understand that I as GM can tone them down (which I am), but I am wondering what you all think. For example the UNTIL combat armor cost 210 points before you put an agent in it! This means, with just a basic agent that this NPC is already more powerful than the average armored superhero who is starting at 350 points (if that character can do anything outside her armor)! The one reason I can see for this is a group of say four superheroes fighting 4-8 tough agernts is a lot more fun than a group of four heroes fighting 20 generic thugs (it simo,kt takes to long). I am guessing that is the reason, still an agency that can create suyits that makes Defender look average scares me a little. Agian, all and all WONDERFUL resourses! What do you think?
  4. The Mind Control is built into a multi-power of "eye contact" powers (no it would not be a legal constition for a EC. but this is an MP) Anyway it is a 60 MP; Construction: 12d6 Mind Control There is no telepathic link, so the target is in a state of super hypnotism. I don't think mind Control should include free access to Telepathy. An order to "tell me about Dr. Wong's plan," should be handled through Telepahy - Mind Control can just be to powerful otherwise. The same character can change memories, bought as a Transform.
  5. Some of these are listed prior- but these are some of the most interesting for me in the Prime Realities of Marvel X-Men Colossus (alive in the Ultimate universe - should be back any month now in regular) his sister Magik (a current Exile, but that does not count) Cyper (who is not Douglocke) - I have no idea how you would use him, but hey -he is going to stay dead.
  6. I’m creating an NPC (a villain actually) who is a Mind Control who has the ability to force targets to answer questions while under the effects of mind control. In your opinions is this legal construction Telepathy 10d6 (- ½ linked to Mind Control; - ½ Must communicate verbally): Total Cost: 25
  7. As much as I am loathed to say this – the new Marvel System looks worse than the old. The biggest problem with the old was it was as easy to hit Spider-Man as the Hulk!
  8. Steve, once Marvel and DC newest Roleplaying systems fail, which they will, has there been any thought of licensing. I know I started with the original Marvel (pre-Advanced Marvel) system from TSR. The system had a wonderful universe that I cared about, but once you’re over about 14 you discover the system fails to live up to the level of HERO (or even a modern d20 system). If Hero games contracted to create Marvel and/or DC settings it would bring in a lot of new players. It would also, I believe help the comic companies, as you have a much better game mechanic then they do. I like the Hero Universe, don’t get me wrong – but I’d rather meet Batman than Nighthawk (even the Kyle Richmond version!) or Colossus rather than Iornside. A few genre books filled with stats on the X-Men, JLA or Avengers would sell – look at the Web versions of these characters. Just a thought. What do others think.
  9. First questionI have a habit of allow players who create a detailed background to generate some “free team points†that may be used for bases or vehicles. I think this does two things. First it helps a party generate “background†that is often ignored. Secondly, it helps the team pay for a base that they would most likely not be able to afford point wise. What do people think about this. Secondly question. I’ve gut a generic hero team and need to create a base for them fact (NPC’s) are there any web resources that people have done up for this I can steal.
  10. Wizard related question. Followers who can be summoned (like Elementals that can be teleported in/created at will). Should the character pay for both Followers and Summoning to assume total control of the created creature?
  11. Steve, I know if you have a multi-power slot that is not fixed in Force Field it needs to keep the same PD/ED ratio. Is it legal to buy to non-fixed Force Field slots (say Force Field 20/0 and Force Field 0/20), each slot would cost 4 points and you would control the amount of Force Field vs. each attack.
  12. I was going for mass combat teams, if you want teams of 4 the best is not the FF (in combat at least)- or a JLA composed of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and GL - or an Avengers composed of Thor, Iorn Man, Cap and whoever. It's the Defendser - the line-up as of issue 1 Silver Surfer, Namor, Hulk and Dr. Strange - any team where Namor is the weakest member gets my vote.
  13. When we were kids there was that wonderful fight, which many of us still go through who would win between Thor and Superman; The Avengers and the JLA; the Teen Titans and the X-Men (X-Men hands down). Before the board crashed I was trying to see how people though this could be modeled in the Champions System, fair fights between super teams. Here is my suggestion. Take 10,000 points and each character can get credit for up too 150 points in Disads. There is no max or min number of characters you can have, spend as many points per person as you want! I just think this is a fun exercise. Here are my teams, what would you do? JLA Superman: 1,000 (+150): 1,150 Wonder Woman: 750 (+150): 900 Martian Manhunter: 750 (+150): 900 Green Lantern, current: 750(+150): 900 Batman: 750 (+150): 900 Flash, current: 750 (+150): 900 Zalanta 650 (+150): 800 Red Tornodo 500 (+150): 650 Aquaman: 500 (+150): 650 Atom 500 (+150): 650 Firestorm: 500 (+150): 650 Plastic Man 300 (+150):450 Black Canary 300 (+150): 450 Green Arrow, orginal 300 (+150): 450 Hawkman: 300 (+150): 450 Hawkgirl: 300 (+150): 450 Fire 300 (+150): 450 Ice 300 (+150):450 Booster Gold: 300 (+150): 450 Blue Beetle: 200 (+150): 350 AVENGERS Thor 1,000 (+150): 1,150 Iorn Man 750 (+150): 900 Captain Marvel/Photon 750 (+150): 900 Quasar 750 (+150): 900 Scarlet Witch 600 (+150): 750 Hercules 600 (+150): 750 Moondragon 600 (+150): 750 Captain America 500 (+150): 650 Vision 500 (+150): 650 Wonder Man 500 (+150): 650 Quicksilver: 400 (+150): 550 Warbird 400 (+150): 550 She-Hulk 400 (+150) 550 Wasp 300 (+150): 450 Hank Pym 300 (+150): 450 Hawkeye 300 (+150): 450 Black Panther 300 (+150): 450 Black Widow 300 (+150): 450 Starfox 300 (+150): 450 Firestar 250 (+150): 400 Justice 200 (+150): 350 X-MEN Jean Grey 750 (+150): 900 Rogue 750 (+150): 900 Joseph 750 (+150): 900 Storm 600 (+150): 750 Professor X 500 (+150): 650 Iceman 500 (+150): 650 Wolverine 500 (+150): 650 Psylocke 500 (+150): 650 Nightcrawler 500 (+150): 650 Colossus 500 (+150): 650 Banshee 400 (+150): 550 Dazzler 400 (+150): 550 Bishop 400 (+150) 550 Canonball 400 (+150): 550 Cyclops 400 (+150): 550 Beast 400 (+150): 550 Archangel 300 (+150): 450 Havok 300 (+150): 450 Shadowcat 300 (+150): 450 Longshot 300 (+150): 450 Gambit 300 (+150): 450 Jubliee 250 (+150): 400
  14. Boy this was a newbie question, I was actually only thinking about the maneuvers. Especially thinks like Rapid Fire, does it unbalance play. I mean if one PC has bought up speed and anonther has bout up combat levels do the minus really make it a fair fight?
  15. Here is a GM relatively new to this system, but experienced with others, question for you. In your Champions games which Optional Combat rules do you not allow or modify? If possible I’d also like to know why!
