  1. Re: How hard are THESE materials? They are exactly as hard as you need them to be, but be consistant. Nothing bothers player more (a fairly so) then being able to do something one time and not the next. If I Can break through a six inch wall of element X on Monday, don;t have the same wall instructable on Friday (without good reason).
  2. Re: Balancing Brick DCs Combat balance is an intersting thing. I look at 5 factors 1. How much damage can a PC do (DC, special effectsd) 2. How likely is she to hit (Look at the OCV, any advantages) 3. How often can he attack (Speed, how long a PC can go all out without running out of END, charges) 4. How much damage can she take in return (Can the PC take as much as he can give) 5. How does this match the character concept (A Brick should do amazing amounts of damage, but hit less often than a Martial Arts.
  3. Re: Suggestions? Telepathic PCs just captured VIPER agent I had a second idea. Assuming Viper is a real threat, someone will eventually figure out the PC are making people talk (through Telepathy they may or may not figure out). Why not simply have them plant seriously false information in all the members of a Viper team that they send out to get caught. Then the PC are led into a trap or attack a fake "Viper Central Base" in the Amazon while Viper acts in the heroes home town?
  4. Re: Money And Super-Mercenaries It all depends on supply and demand. If there are only 100 superhumans in your world - millions; if there are tens of thousands, less - though still a lot. An Avenger made $52,000 a year in the 80's (plus room, board, medical, and insurance). Remeber. A private hero working legally in the US would have to: 1. Carry loads of insurance 2. Pay taxes (check on IRS Website for amounts) - Maybe the CIA, FBI, Primus and the rest would overlook our hero - the IRS will not! 3. Be subject to legal restrictions 4. Be bated by the heroes who do it for free.
  5. Re: Suggestions? Telepathic PCs just captured VIPER agent Excellent suggestions - I have one more. This is what I would do Let the telepath discover the base and take out this nest. Viper is not going to like this and will send someone to discover why there agents are giving out such information. Once they have disvcovered it’s a telepath – they will react. They may have telepaths too – capture a PC and give all there information to Viper. Also Viper would target this telepath for capture/killing. I remember to old D&D standard take out the spellcasters first. Telepaths are dangerous, but few have great defenses.
  6. Re: A Modern League of Extroardinary Gentlemen Classic TV & Movies (late 60’s to 80’s) The Doctor (from Doctor Who): provides travel in TARDIS and knowledge, but often makes mistakes. · Jeannie (from I Dream of Jeannie): magic, but a little less organized then Samantha from Bewitched. · Daisy Duke (from Dukes of Hazard): good old girl charm, driving and ideas; she is actually more skilled then either of her cousins (all four if you count the scabs) · Robin the Boy Wonder (from the Adam West Batman Show): This Robin is a TV character, less skilled then Batman, but still useful · Thomas Magnum (from Magnum PI): Detective adventurer · Macguiver (from Macquiver): Tech Skills · Jamie Summers (from the Bionic Woman): Because, much like Daisy Duke she actually is better skilled than Steve Austin · Bob Dylan (I know he is a real person, but he would cement this group perfectly) WHY NOTS - A-Team: They work together well, one member alone is less useful - Michael Knight: No need with Magnum and MacGuiver, also if we stretch this into the 80’s/90’s there is the horrible possibility of Baywatch (the horror!) - Charlie’s Angels: One would help, but with Daisy Duke (who is simply more interesting) they are not needed. Now · The Doctor (from Doctor Who): he remains, a time traveler [who is coming back in 2005, so fits the current rule]; same basic role · Bob Dylan (Guy is still making great music, again cement) · Adrian Monk (from Monk): Truly the worlds Greatest Detective · Buffy Summers (from Buffy the Vampire Slayer): You simply need this character · Harry Potter (from Harry Potter and ….): Magic, and some understanding what he is doing · Hagrid (also from Harry Potter): Because it would be really funny watching him work in this group · Clark Kent (from Smallville): Not technically a superhero (yet). Powerful, but unsure of himself. · A female spy type (Alias or one of the movie Charlie’s Angels angels – any would fit). WHY NOTS - Neo (from the Matrix): From the future, not current - One of the Charmed Ones (from Charmed): No need with the Potter crew Another Detective: With Monk you do not need anymore
  7. Hey I am trying to create a character whose teleportation power makes them sort of "phase in" to an area so they are harder to hit even after they have attacked. What do you think of this construction for a teleporter whose teleportation adds to her defense. + 5 Combat Levels (to all DCVs) ( - 1/2 only when teleported during last phase): 25 Active points; Real Cost: 17
  8. Resurrection - rare But Dear Abby, I beg to differ!
  9. Thanks for the help so far. This is a knightly order within the military of a small alien empire, the NPC is an exsile. The characters are not lingists, the NPC simply knows English as well as her native tongue. I created this Utility pouch to add to her basic abilities of the order in general. Her healing drugs are used up and her Data recorder broken; she does not have them and is not paying for them! Also while a Sky Knight can function is space, the suit does not provide the ability to travel interstellarly. They have ships, she does not. Utility Pouch (All purchased – 1 OAF): Total Cost: 34 Medical Kit Scanner: Paramedics 14 - (7) Healing Patches: Healing (Body) 3d6 (- 1 Extra Time: 1 minute) 16 charges (15) Personal Data Recorder Eidetic Memory (Sight and Sound) (3) Knowledge: Geography of Space + 3 to existing skill (3) Knowledge: Exobiology 13- (6)
  10. Dear Abby My girlfriend is a superhero to and was killed in action six weeks ago. Should I start dating or wait for her to be resurrected?
  11. Love all the basic ideas, so stop reading comments and get writing!
  12. Hey guys I’m inviting a NPC heroine who is part of an alien “army†called the Sky Knights (does not translate well from her native tongue). This is the standard equipment/skills she and they posses (It’s a high power game and she is built on 300 points + 200 Disads). The character is still being created. I may use her as a PC at some point. Wanted to share this stuff and get your reviews. I’ll post the character later. 13. Hey this seems legal, but it feels weirdly illegal. I am a firm believer that villains must pay for everything to for balance. Main in a story arch has a machine, which implants “control chips†into people’s head giving him complete control of them (30+ Mind Control). To be used on several NPC and a DNPC or two in the campaign. Long term Mind Control (only healed through surge sounds like a Transform to me. However the various special effects of the device make it rather inexpensive. How does this look to you eyes Mind Control Chips: Transform Normal Human into Slavishly Loyal Follower: 10d6. (- 1 ½ Only in lab (Obvious Accessible Focus; Non-Mobile); - 1 Extra Time ( ½ Hour); -1 Target must remain at negative stun throughout procedure; - ½ Concentration: 0 DCV. + ½ 0 END). Active Points: 225 Total Cost: 45. Healing is removal of chip. I did not make the transform mental because it is not, the effect is the chip shuts down the part of the brain that deals with decision making. The villain has a separate sleep drug built as “Drain Stun†which keeps targets below 0. Does this work in your view, would you get to the same effect differently?
  14. Dude, whatever you do you want to avoid two things, if you are able to One - having Witchcraft develop Rivalry: Your PC. Make her cloths disapear - she will find you. Two - Becoming a pawn in a plot of a more powerful wizard out to get Witchcraft (like her sister). If I were you GM; this is thr route I would take you in.

Back in the day... early AD&D 2nd Edition I had a player who played a dwarf cleric named MC Bloodhammer - a skilled singer, YOU CAN'T Touch this.
  16. Ultimate GL question: How to buy the power ring: 1. Simply as a special effect (can not be taken away) 2. Only in Hero ID (since the GL can summon the ring) 3. OIF Also a 24 hour cont. fuel charge? Save a whole lot on END?
  17. Hopefully something we all have to do from time to time Some suggestions I've found work. 1. Suggest the experienced players create characters with a lot of background and the less experienced with raw power. Batman and Kyle GL are built on about the same points (or could be); Batman just has a lot more skills, contacts and knows what he is doing. New player equals a PC who got in a radiation accident yesterday and still does not know howe to use his or her powers. It has worked. 2. Allows the new players to hold back a portion of their points and use them in a lump sum. In a 350 point gamel ket them built a chatracter with 300 and add 20 points after the first two seesions and 10 after the third. This will let them "fix" problems they may have left out on their characters. (Speed vs. END use is a big one). Alternatively you can let them move them around 3. Pair up experienced and unexperienced player, especially during creation. What are some of you ideas
  18. For me most of GL powers are Telekinesis with the special effect of "green energy shapes." I would give the special effect for free (as these items are clearly energy constructs), but I suppose you could buy it with images. I would go the multi-Power root with the following powers: Telekinesis (both fine and non-fine) EB - Physical and maybe Energy as well Force Wall Force Field Some of these would be are effect, Also need a lot of flight, a tough personal force field and a life support linked to it. The GL's also have a Mind Link with other GL's (if there are other GL's)
  19. Yes to both questions. Suppose the normal character had a 15 STR and the OIHID a 60. The total STR cost would be 41 (5 for the first 5 and 36 for the remaining 45 (divided by 1.25). Remember that unless the PC also buys the - 1/2 limited does not effect figured the PC would also get additional points to PD (+ 9); Recovery (+9); Stun (+ 22.5) when he/she converts.
  20. It is important to remember that different cultures arrived at the bronze age at different points. It is possible for your bronze age character to run into NPC from stone age cultures. Magic should be a force......Oh, you mean the bronze age of comics? sorry could not resist.
  21. I think a charcter like Colossus or Thor who has a powered or non-powered form but the same intellect and skills in both forms works best with OIHID, characters with intellectual changes like the Hulk work best with Multi-Form. The change would be a 0 action, but there should be some way to stop it. If Billy is tied up he can't yell the magic word he losses his power Thor loses his hammer, powers gone Colossus reverts to human form if knocked out. This should either be bought as a limitation (like Accidental change) or agreed on. Otherwise OIHID is not that much of a limiation (sure you can be hurt if superises, but is that really worth a - 1/4 ? Alternatively you could perchase a Multi-form with the (Extra-Time Limiation and save some points!
  22. I’m building a character with a magical sword with a dozen powers bought as a MP with the limitation on the MP (-1/2 No Range), 11 of the powers are normally ranged – the basic killing attack is not. So I ask can you buy Ranged Killing Attack with the limitation (-1/2 No Range); representing the fact that the character can not add her STR to the Killing Attack? This seems fair to me; the PC has a 15 STR so she is losing a full d6 for the limitation. Construction would look like this Sword (60 MP – ½ No Range) 40 (“Sword†is an effect, it can’t be taken away) * Ranged Killing Attack 4d6 ( - ½ No Range) 4 Is this a far construction in your view?
  23. Champions = JLA, Avengers, X-Men, Teen Titans, FF, Spider-man Dark Champions = Punisher in the middle = Batman, Daredevil, some Wolverine

    Genie PC

One of the great things about the Hero system is you can build the same type of character several different ways. I am curious about players or GM who have played wizard type character (really any magic users) in Champions rather than fantasy hero. I’ve been given an idea for an intriguing genie character in a 350 campaign whose main power is an 80 VPP (+ 2 Universal; - ¼ only magical effects) = 176. The character having spent half her points on a single framework. As we all know 80 that is your attack, defense, movement and anything else goes very quickly so I'm not worried about balance. How have you created magic types (Multi-Powers and VPP seem almost a necessity)?
  25. Desolidification Question I know each game differs, but generally can Desolid be brought with increased mass like Teleport (+5 for 2X). Otherwise to create a character that can desolidify someone they are touching gets very expense very fast (even eight times their weight would cost an extra 80 points [usable on others + ½; 8x weight + 1] or even more if they can use it on those who are not willing. If constraint contact is required it should be cheaper, right?
