  1. Hello peeps.

     

    I have been away for a long time, so long in fact that the last time I purchase HD it was subscription based.

    Just purchased it again a couple days ago and I am re remembering why I liked it so much.

    Still wrapping my head around Prefabs, templates etc.

     

    I have read and searched but can't find what I am looking for.

    I have created some awesome(IMO) characters using this software and using the incredible exports found here produced some great looking character sheets.

    I used them last night for my gaming group that has been stuck in Pathfinder for 15 years now.

    They LOVED the look of the character sheets.

    But a question that came up "What does my gun or power arm etc look like"

    I would like to have a sheet shows them the stats and a picture of it.

     

    I would like to write up a weapon.

    Have it's write up and a picture of it.

    But I don't want a Characteristics tab or most of the other tabs.

    I would print this off with the associated character.

     

    Is this possible?
    Any direction even if it is read this. I would be happy to do that.

    Thanks for any help\advice on this.

  2. I know I am late to the party. Hope it is okay to chime in.

    Mecha. Hmmm

    I am easy going.

    I like them all. Some more then others, some backs stories more then the actual mecha. Some the mecha better then the game mechanics.

    I fall closer to ShadowCats feeling on mecha but not totally. I have many fond memories of protoculture powered mecha and even slow plodding Beasts of war

    .

    I would like to see a rule set I can use for Heavy Gear most of all. I have fiddled with some rules and they work roughly. VERY roughly and with alot of latitude in my GMing

    I have always like this level of mecha.

     

    Not just an enhanced exosuit. But not a walking tank system.

     

    Vtech gas powered engines. powerful weapon systems, chunky armour and mecha that do breaking down like the Falcon with Han and Chewie.

    Speed over lumber Tanks. I like Tanks to be ... TANKS.

     

    I never liked how vehicles are handled in Hero system. Again I will echo a few and say they just felt like cumbersome characters.

     

    But Love what NSG has touched on in the first page of this threat. It looks very interesting I need to comb more threw this thread to see if any more was spitballed.

     

    So I guess I would like a system that felt like mecha and not heros with OIF.

    What the heck is it about some people's inability to modify published characters. Is it conditioning from D&D where the characters in the Monster Manuals were always seen to be somewhat sacrosanct?

     

    This is HERO where one can take apart any NPC or PC and rewrite them to fit your fancy and psych Complications. If an NPC's dex is too high then just lower it. There's no Hero Police that shows up to games to make sure that published characters are unchanged.

    I think for the people I game with Tasha that you hit the nail on the head. Dnd, This way. DONE. NO changing.

    I think personally this RULES strick adhearance came about during a wargaming phase that we all went through. And with table top war gaming, there is NO option to change, modify etc if you wish to participate in a tournament.

    This lead us to getting really sticky about rules, stats etc.

     

    For myself the reason I am honestly giving up on all those up there systems (That I have two book shelves 8 feet high 4 feet wide full of), is because the players have all forgotten the GOLDEN RULE! All rules are actually guidelines to be worked with by all parties involved until you are all happy.

    Hero system IMO is about modifying, and making and using this set of rules from this book but not that book and one rule from this book to add to this THING.

     

    One thing I like to do is read other peoples write ups.

    Like reading a good book that gives you idea's and insights and some things you can use for your own works.

    I have lots to take away from this thread already. Already starting modding my own team even more then I did before because of some of this discussion.

     

    OH and Escafarc.

    Isn't is awesome to unveil a villain or group\monster and they are not what some"perhaps they had a peek" of the players expected.(Original write up..)

    I have actually had one player in recent memory exclaim that, I was doing it wrong. I didn't know if I should get angry or just laugh.

    1. I agree with Vondy, your response to Enforcer84 (a Hero Boards veteran) is out of line with community standards. I note that you joined in 12/2006 and have 25 posts dealing with a few specific subjects. If you've followed the boards regularly since early 2007, you'd know your response was out of line; if not, you're a newbie critiealizing hiscizing a veteran without r total contribution to the boards. Either case, not a good way to make a good impression.

    I am sorry for it but there is no take backs. I have to move forward. I deserved what I get and will take it and do intend to make BETTER contributions.

    Can I say, that life\work\and a few seconds losing control of myself and taking it out on some one else by building a my own little story of his post in my head.... And to be honest. It does not matter that he is a vet of 10000 posts. A person with one post would not really warrant that. I am sorry.. I will work at being a better poster.

    It is just a bad day recorded for ever.(it was a bad week personally for me) I actually have regretted it from ... oh about a day after wards. Only now had the courage to come back and face what an ass I was and write this.

    Enforcer84 I am sorry. Really I am, this is not lip service. I can't offer much more then that and a promise to learn, and grow by this. I know better. Write, Think, wait and write again. NEVER ASSUME .

    So, please focus on Hero system that really is a great edition.

    Help me move forward if you can.

    I am not even sure I have the strength to come back to read any more responses.

    I originally came here to get away from this stress, and in stead I carried it with me.

     

    And honestly thanks for the kind way almost all of you handled this. It really does show the caliber of people you are.

    On a sidenote, may I ask the power level of the PCs?

    really quickly.

     

    3-4 spd

    60 active points in main attack

    DEF around 6-15

    most characters with Normal human max

    The Dx now are 10 for the healer type protector

    12 for the Brick and 15 for the Mercenary

     

    A Batman level character MIGHT have a 5 speed in our type of genera we play in right now.

    SUPER fast vs a 2-3 normal.

     

    A lot of real world weapons that only cost money and have an availability.

    Real world equipment and vehicles that is not a cost in Character points either. Just money.

     

    It is Dark Champions meets, Horror, meets Danger International, super agencies, and Ninja's with a sprinkling of Nazi baddies.

    Perhaps it was a too strong retort on my part.

    But I had hoped for intelligent discourse and I read that one line reply from a poster that has over TEN THOUSAND POSTS on this board and YES I took it as a spark as well as IMHO a hunt for as many post counts as you can have by replying to any thread even if it is meaningless response.

    I don't see how his remark added anything to my post.

    If it was just my Title Thread he was reading then Fine that is a good answer.

    And what does his last remark mean? What does Punk have to do with anything?

     

    But anyways. I am not going to touch on this any more as I think I am only adding to the fuel of this and I really just want to talk about this exciting change to Hero and how it affects NPC's.

    (Very disappointing to hear that as it will leave the CV, SPEED etc all busted for 6th edition pure)

    I like what your Gming style sounds like. Very close to what I look for.

    I think that is ONE of the most amazing things about Hero. The Scalability of this system is unbelievable. Peons to Gods you can play

    I was a GURPS player\GM for a Long time. I have come back to Hero with this edition. It is just better.

    Still looking for writeups of pure 6th edition NPC's that (again this i only my view) expect to see. Gritty, low stat normals.

     

    Oh and Viper

    I use Viper because it basically is Hydra AIM from the comic books that all my fellow players know and love\hate. . I just don't use the full colour when Gming Dark Hero. They are more an evil intelligence agency.

    If Hero gets to a Viper 6th, I hope it is close to what I like(I wrote some crap about how it should be written but erased it)

    I am looking for new purchases with the intent to get write ups with what I THINK\HOPE is the meaning behind this 6th edition.

    6th edition excites me. It is a really well thought out change to an already Superb system.

    So, a trained soldier of what ever arm of what ever group. You really think 15 is what they should have?

    I know point scale and flavour is a HUGE factor.

    I am talking DARK gritty Under the Red Hood sort of story.

    I know it all comes down to personal choice for gaming. But isn't 15 a real athlete high level dex for a normal trained soldier?

    Did you choose 15 because of writeup and division?

    Skill divided by 5 plus 9 makes for fast easy math.

     

    See I STRONGLY DISLIKE that mentality when reading writeups of NPC's or when I am writing them up myself.

    I do have a viper team of my own. I was looking for others. You helped with a pointer Beast, Thanks.

    Question

    Do the game creators\writers\authors write up characters not for character sake but for the pencil pushers and nit pickers who would look at a book and say.

    This viper agent is wrong. His points don't add up, His Blah blah is bad because he has a 13 dex and didn't pay the 2 CP's so he is a poorly written character thus a flawed game design?

     

    See I would rather see an slightly out of point cost character.. Meaning you still add them up right, they just cost more because they are closer to REAL then a group of soldiers with all 15 dex's.

    I would personally like to see more 12 and 13 dex characters. Sure they don't add to much, but those scores would certianly show the HUMAN side of hero.

    str 12-14

    dex 11-14 - 11 could be the Hudson of the team "Hudson, run a by pass" type soldier.

    speed 3 to 4 but 4 would be the elite or commanders of the squad

  8. Tell me what i need to purchase to find a viper agent or thug with a dex more in line with REAL tactical personnel that are competent with a rifle but not Olympic level dex?

     

    What supplements for 6th should I be looking for?

    What can I purchase?

    I am one of those dam players,Gm's that doesn't want 20 dex, 20 str ... tougher then normal toughs?

     

    Am I out of line thinking that this NEW FANTASTICALLY AWESOME move away from Dex being the UBER stat, that we will see better villains and hero's.?

     

    WERE ARE THEY?

     

    Really it is not that bad but I am hoping that we can see more lower dex villians.

    Still Pluggin away at conversions. RL getting in the way abit. Went and bought the CEF (Colonial Expeditionary Force) and the Black Talons PDF's from drivethru and I am reading through them.

    I need to do some more tinkering with Hero Gen 3 so I understand what I am using to make racial templates, classes etc. My Source material seem pretty straight forward I just have to get it into Hero Terms using the HG3 software.

     

     

    Just reading about the super soldiers, GRELS and SLEDGES.

    I will post a few different types and I am still working away at creating a master weapons, perks, etc sheet so a player can just load the "EVERYTHING" sheet and cut and past it into his template of a GEAR.

     

    Is anyone else interested in Heavy Gear and want to discuss ideas about conversions or just discuss it in general.

    Here is the final draft of my

    Iguana Heavy Gear

     

    Note that I have indicated that the only thing that is affected by a character while in a gear is the Dex. When a character hops into a gear they must change the Vehicle Dex to match theirs and in this gear they add +3 for Agile Design.

    I am finishing up my Black Mamba, and will then create a Template for all gears to start from.

     

    I am still not really happy about the spd increasing if they person has a high Dex. Because this messes up the KPH spd of the gear.

    We will house rule the speed to 4 phases of 22" to reflect the MAX speed of the gear.

     

    I hope This helps someone out.:P

    Doesn't seem to say anything about the force creating life... So you could cut the Vong off from it and they wouldn't die. In some ways their getting cut off is like the Ysalimari from Myrkr except it doesn't radiate out from them, just ends at their skin. That doesn't stop a jedi from launching something at them, but does make them harder to fight when you are used to having the force perception to guide your movements by anticipating an opponents upcoming actions, heheh.

     

     

    It is funny. I consider myself a Starwars buff, what with an email address of Jedi42 and all. But eading the above posts (plural) I started to doubt myself about my knowledge of the force. Whew. Thanks for getting the actual quote.

    I have even used the Ysalimari in a fantasy setting where it cut magic users off from their "mana". I didn't even change their name if you talk about a Ysal around my group the associate them with a fantasy base.

    I just got the Rancor mini in the mail today so I got a bug up my butt and wrote the nasty thing up in like 10 minutes or so. He may change soon.

     

    P.S. The mini might be the finest piece in the Star Wars mini line. though its size and ease of painting may attribute to this.

    What was your thinking behind this sort of Str?

    I don't have any write up on it myself so I don't know anything about it except it is big.

    Does it really have that kind of lifting power or where you trying to reflect it's RAW power and strength in damage class?

    Looking very good, keep it coming. I am swiping as you go. I have NEVER been happy with ANY star wars Rpling game so far and this looks very promising. (Last thing we tried SW in was Silhouette System by DP9. It didn't work).

    What I am doing is making one "sheet" that a player can load and then they will pick a templated Gear and modify it's loadout as they see fit.

    When I am done all of the Weapons systems, sensor packages and perks I will then start Templating the Gears.

  16. Heavy Gear HERO Convertion Stuff

     

    I have attached my damage conversion chart I am using to base my damage for all the weapons. It is not exact but I think that it will work well to duplicate the feel of Heavy Gear and still allow real world stuff (with slight modifications) in if a player wants to use them.

     

    I didn't like the basic damage charts so I used a combination of a lot of games I have played including Heavy gear with a little more focus on damaging the Gear and not the player. This is meant to be a Role-playing game and the damage charts for HG are kind of harsh I think more focused on a bunch of gears on the field under the control of a player instead of one gear for one player with their character in it. These charts are for a long term role-playing game. Not the board game.

     

    Damage Chart

    Roll Effect

     

    2 **Critical Hit refer to chart

    3 Arm hit, 1/2 OCV with primary weapon if applicable. 1,2,3 left 4,5,6 right

    4 Primary Weapon hit and is -2 OCV

    5 Sensors/Comm Systems hit -2 to active skills

    6 Weapon systems hit count number of subsystems and roll to determine which -2 OCV

    7 Subsystem hit. roll d6. Odd Player chooses, Even Shooter choose.

    8 Secondary movement system hit, out of action.

    9 Fire control -2 OCV until repaired

    10 Movement system hit subtract -1/4 for every third of total body that penetrates or for each time this is rolled.

    11 Leg hit Reduced mobility 1/2 primary movement

    12 **Critical Hit refer to chart

    If half of body damage of gear is done in one attack Use a +/-2 modifier to the roll chosen prior to roll.

    I am working on a master list of equipment, perks and talents for the Gears. My focus is on the equipment currently.

    Wow almost an hour of reading a ton of beefing. I have to say a lot of you really held it together and made it worth slogging though all this flame and beef.

    I think that of all the systems Hero has the best overall multi genera adaptability. Vehicles included. Sure we need to tinker.

    Could the extra (And I know it has been 3 years since this was posted in) 10 points on the Abrams be slanted armour and not affected by punches?

    That is how it would work in my game when I Gm.

     

     

    I also like ... can't even recall who but the full phase max damage 1/2 DCV option.

     

    Well back to making my own damage charts for my Heavy Gears.

    You could build it as levels only to offset range penalties - that is, in effect what it is doing, no?

     

    The limitation would be the requirement to 'paint' the object first...

    Oh this might be a simpler way of doing it. Sort of a stash of CV's that can me used like charges with the limitation that the unit must continue to paint until impact of munitions.

     

    Another way might be

    No range penalties for firing unit and a few CV's for good luck.

    In a OAF, real equipment, charge based, then I am thinking some sort of Link or share that must be a mutual advantage paid for by both firer and fiery.

    (Still very new to Hero system, years ago I was a Champions player/GM)

    It is just recent that i realized what an amazing tool this whole Hero system can be. Long time Gurps player.

    What exactly do you want the effect to be?

     

    If it is simply a way of hitting a target that will later be hit un-erringly by other weapons then I think you are looking at a specially limited delayed effect.

     

    If the weapon is a 4D6K area effect missile then you can slap delayed effect on it and the delay would be the missile coming later.

     

    Obviously the attack could be disrupted in a number of ways - erasing the laser paint, shooting down the missile/airplane etc.

    Yes I like this idea. I need to review the delay. So would you make the "Equipment" pay for the Missile? Or would you have it paired some how with it?

     

    I am thinking that a player could pay for this during an operation when there is friendly firing capable units in the active area.

    (Target Acquisition Gear) or Laser Targeting system.

     

    2 man team sneaks in to enemy territory high up in the hills.

    Paints a target with TAG . X number of miles away, Helo fires missile and hits said target. No Roll because the Team is painting the target (they are doing the active hit roll even though there is no LOS from Firing unit.

     

    Some of the idea's would work if a bit abstract. I am thinking the public idea is workable with modifiers. Enemies couldn't use it unless the proper "settings or conditions where met"

     

    I know they have it in RL. Plane fly way over head and drop laser guided munitions that are guided there by the Painting team.
