  1. I made this post elsewhere (http://www.herogames.com/forums/sho...=&threadid=2700) but will make it here. I am moving forward with the project as part of a website of non-d20 gaming resources. I've been reading all the posts/threads about folks working to convert their favorite book/TV show/game setting to FREd and realized that what we all really could use is one place for everyone to put their work. What I am proposing is to host such a site. The ground rules would be: 1) I will not make any decisions on the specific conversions unless I am involved in that particular project. 2) The site will acknowledge all copyrights. 3) The site will acknowlege everyone who contributed to the specific project. I've already got some design ideas I've been working out, but didn't want to take this too far without brining folks on board. What do y'all say to this idea?

  4. Web Site is being developed I'm going ahead with my proposed website as part of a bigger gaming resourses site. Anyone who wishes to contribute to it can e-mail me at the address posted below.
  5. Arooo said: Arooo, once the site gets large enough I'll seriously consider taking you up on your offer. Captain Obvious said: Well then Cap, this would be the perfect opportunity for you. See the idea is to at least preserve what work has been done for those who come after. If one person spent a great deal of time and effort converting all the races for say, Babylon5, and then quit their work dies with them. But if they have contributed it to the website I am thinking about, then others interested in B5 can pick up where they left off.

  7. Thanks Steve. The page references you gave were exactly what I was looking for. For those like myself who just LOVE the large poster sized maps, would you consider producing one if enough of us were willing to pay for it?
  8. Maps My local gaming store got in "Terran Empire" and so I've been looking it over. Is there going to be some kind of map for the entire empire/setting? I found lots of little maps throughout the text, but I'm a big fan of having everything on one map so I don't have to go flipping around AND can see everythign in relation to each other.
  9. ShelleyCM said: Oh I hear that Shelley. That's why I left GURPS. Besides some other problems I had with the company (including with mr sj himself), I found their "high quality and control over the product" to be less than advertised. I almost fliped when I found out that their blueprint for the Empress Marava Freetrader was so off. I mean the first level of the cargo hold had twice as many hexes as the ENTIRE ship was supposed to have (by their own rules). I acutally managed to sell off ALL my GURPS stuff for what I paid for it (and am now buying HERO books) Jerry A! said: Thanks for the tips and website Jerry. I love the work the guy did with the standard Traveller ships. That alone is going to save me quite a bit of time.
  10. I have just picked up Star HERO and while reading it have been considering just how I want my Sci-Fi campaign set up. Then I remembered, I have all this Stuff for Classic Traveller and MegaTraveller. Has anyone out there thought about or done any work on creating a Star HERO campaign in any part of the Traveller Universe/Timeline?
  11. here are a few ideas... 1) Force sheilds are common place making projectile weapons useless since the rounds travel too fast. 2) Energy weapons react with the force shield causing them to explode (ala Dune and the game Space Opera). 3) if your campaign uses a method of travel like the "jump" system in Traveller, getting replacement parts for your weapons can be tricky. so.. Swords, knives and such are the only weapons that move slow enough to penetrait a personal shield and won't negatively react with it.
  12. Re: Re: Maybe We Wasn't Robbed This I find amusing. While I'm not going to assume anything, it has been my experiance that the person making such comments truly hasn't given HM more than a quick glance or "once over." But, since this isn't a HM discussion board, I'll end the thread hijacking here.
  13. Steve, why would HackMaster wining GotY be reguarded as a problem?
  14. Then you would love the KenzerCo boards. Y'know the makers of HackMaster, Origins "Game of the Year" last year.
  15. I've been going over some of the character examples in the genre guide . I have two questions about the example character "Randolph Murdock" on page 35 of the genre guide. First. Under the "Powers" portion of the character. It lists "Martial Arts: Fisticuffs" but I can't find this in either the skills, powers, or martial arts sections of H5thEd. Then below this is a list of maneuvers. I have searched through the bookand the only place I can find the cost of the maneuvers in the examples of "Martial Arts Styles." The Second. Overal the Martial Arts section confuses me. Some of the "manuver" names in the text (pgs 264-266) differ from what is listed in the "Martial Manuvers section of the "Combat Manuevers" table on page 254. Again I haven't been able to find the base cost for any of the Martial Manuvers. Thanks Al Beddow.
  16. Hello there and welcome
  17. Thanks Thanks to all, especially Syberdwarf2. His description of character creation is very similar to the method I've always told people to use, ESPECIALLY when making one in a classless system. Concept is everything in making the character. I've been reading over FREd and things are coming together/starting to make sense. There is so much meat in this thing I feel like I'm at an "all you can eat bar-b-que"! I encourage anyone who has any further suggestions and guidelines to please post them here, not only for myself but others who may be in the same situation. Thanks.
  18. Y'know D-Man, HackMaster has a great deal of humor in it. Those who have been long time readers of the comic "Knights of the Dinner Table" (KoDT) know that Hard 8 Enterprises (the company which produces HM in the comic) has this real attitude about the "mindless spineless players." It's a hoot to read about GM vs Player vs GM anamosity with such humor. Those who have played in my games know I make a point of providing a balanced adventure & encounters, I am always willing for the players to ask a question before they do something (and I even give them a good answer or make one up if I don't have one). One of the things I do make sure of is that I know the rules, but if the player is sure I am wrong than I will gladly look them up just to give them credit since I don't know it all. I make sure I have the current errata and that the players know about it too. The funniest session I've ever had was with this one guy who, after discovering a fighter who had specialized in darts could throw 4 of them a round. First he wanted to cover his body in darts so he wouldn't run out of them. Then he tried to play HM like it was 3rd ed. His "target" had closed with him in between the throws of the dart and so the player wanted to take a 5 foot step back then throw the dart. I told him that you can do that in 3rd ed, but in HM it says (and then READ him what the GMG said). He simply closed up his books and left, tossing the character to me and saying "I can't handle this, you just keep throwing roadblocks in my way and won't let me play my character." The entire time all 7 of my regular players were telling this guy he's nuts, that's not how HackMaster works. (See, I've trained them well). Anyway, enough of all that. Maybe once I am qualified to run a session of Hero I'll set up a special "PC Killing Spree" game just to get it all "out of my system."
  19. DI? Danger International. It was a revised version of "Espionage". Espionage was released in 1983, DI in the mid 1980's.
  20. hey there Edsel Yep, it's nice to be the newbie again, and on a discussion board where getting to a "title" isn't the main reason for being there. So Edsel, you play Hero? Drop me an e-mail sometime.
  21. Thanks Thanks for the help everyone. Yesterday I bought the Hero Resourse kit (way cool), still going over the booklet. I also downloaded the genre-by-genre PDF and will be going over that. I am looking forward to using these resources to teach all my gaming friends how to play Hero.
  22. I played Champions back in 1983, but am now vigously reading over the Hero 5th Ed. I like what I am reading (way better than GURPS... more complete characters, more options to customize, etc.) Unfortunately, even though I have about 20 years of gaming experiance (on both sides of the GM's screen), I am having a little trouble digesting all of the information for character creation. One of the nice things that is in the GURPS:Basic book is they take one of the pregenerated characters (supplied in the back of the book) and use its creation as an example of how to use the system. Might there be a tutorial out there, say creating a sample character? Thanks
