Re: new time line were the dead stay dead
This is one of the biggest problems with comics. If a writer kills a character, they should stay dead. Death should mean something.
Anyway, just off the top of my head, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Colossus, Daredevil, Captain America, Elektra, Mr. Fantastic, Thor, Professor X, Angel, Hawkeye, Bucky, Magneto, Dr. Doom, Cable,Hank Pym... and I'm sure there would be many more.

I guess I'm going by the picture from TV Guide of the returning series including Nathan, Peter and Sylar. Seems clear that they will all be involved in season two.
And so the battle with Sylar wasn't the key component to the finale. I accept that. But a lot was made of Peter having to be there to stop Sylar... which simply didn't turn out to be accurate.
And I agree, the Peter storyline's quieter and much more important storyline needed time. I just don't think it was as well done as most of the rest of the season had been and could have extended more. Yes, that is just my opinion and I have no problem if others disagree with me.
I am not saying that I wanted a body count, but it just didn't seem that there was any consequences of the conflict... especially for the main players involved.

Why couldn't Peter just fly himself away? Was the power just supposed to be too overwhelming.
And let's not fool ourselves... there was no sacrificing themselves for NY. They will both be back on the series next season.
Maybe that is the part of the finale that just doesn't ring true to me. There didn't seem to any real danger... real sacrifice. Sylar was stabbed but survived. Parkman was shot but he'll survive. DL was shot but will survive. The Petrellis will be back. Mind you, I'm not saying that I want the characters to die, but it feels too much like a comic book where there is no investment in the danger because no one ever pays the real price.
Plus, the only characters involved in the final batle was Hiro and Nikki. I liked Nikki coming over and involving herself... even if it is just for a moment.
Again... I loved the series so the criticism is from a desire to see the best story possible.

The finale could have been an extra half hour or so... there was just something missing. It's hard to put a finger on it... but that doesn't take away from my overall enjoyment or repect for the series as a whole. Maybe Peter should've done something in the showdown with Sylar. I don't know...

Okay, I finished the DVD set just a few minutes ago and I really enjoyed it. I must say though I was a little disappointed with the finale. I don't know... it just didn't seem to be as sweeping as the lead up to the finale.
I also really like Sylar as a villain. He is very creepy and his ability to cut off people's heads is fantastic. I am kind of glad that he got away in typical comic fashion.
I was a little disappointed in Hiro's angle. His whole destiny seemed more important than what eventually happened. And the trip back to the Japanese past... not sure how I feel about that. I hope Ando isn't completely done in the series. I enjoyed the interaction between the two of them.
Sulu's presence always seemed distracting to me as Hiro's father. Maybe that was just me, but he was so much that character... it is difficult to break that idea in my head.
Molly's warning about someone much worse than Sylar, though... that was great. I liked that part very much. I am intriqued by who that might be.
Anyway, I am looking forward to the next season... and I just have to wait until Monday.

I liked Nikki's story quite a bit. She had a well developed arc and it was filled with tragedy. When Nikki was able to use the super strength at the end, I was happy. She would have been one of my favorites. A real shade of grey character.
