  1. Re: D&D 4th

That is a shame. I hope they havent returned to silly weapons restrictions for clerics. is there some nod toward spell selection modified to the domain of the Clerics deity?

Sorta. Not in the spells themselves, but there are feats a cleric (or paladin, I assume, I've only skimmed the feat chapter so far) can take that gives them a power based on a diety. Each diety in the core rules has a Channel Divinity feat which works with the cleric's Channel Divinity class feature (and probably paladin since they have the same class feature).

  2. Re: D&D 4th

I just looked over the characters for the World Wide Game day coming this weekend and, wow.

Each character has the ability to 'Heal' x amount of HP x times per day. This is over and above any clerics that are in the part. The example fighter has a base 28 HP and can regain 7 HP 10x/day...plus, they all have this 'Second Wind' ability that is only available once per day...not sure what that does, but it's listed right next to the HP recovery doohickey.

If you don't fight undead, clerics have become useless. or even if you do fight undead.

The thief..erm...rogue, has a Warlock spell called 'Eyebite' basically he gives the 'ol Stinkeye to someone which does psychic damage and makes him invisible to the targeted person.

Why does a rogue have a Warlock spell?

Haven't seen the character, but it sounds like a multi-classed Rogue. Multi-classing allows you to pick abilities from other classes now.

  3. Re: D&D 4th

I think a fair number of fantasy RPGs stand to gain a shot in the arm. Even if 4E is successful there remains a fairly devoted 3.X crowd with $10,000 in sourcebooks. They will wind up with Pathfinder or some other variation of "not the worlds best selling RPG." Once a player walks on the dark side and stray from the official WOTC lines it isn't that hard to attract them to non-d20.

And it's not like 3.X is going away. The Pathfinder RPG looks much better than 4E.

I'm picking up 4E only because I'm trying to get a new group with some friends together who are die-hard D&Ders. I'll steer them towards Fantasy Hero ASAP, though. :)

  4. Re: Steve Reviews INDIANA JONES AND THE KINGDOM OF THE CRYSTAL SKULL

I'm off to see it in the morning' date=' definitely not wearing my Akubra Federation hat, Peter Botwright jacket and MkVII gas-mask bag (I wouldn't want the cinema staff to think I was [i']obsessive[/i] or anything :D) and all I'm looking for is an enjoyable B-movie style adventure. The one great thing about the Star Wars prequels is that they have provided a wonderfully low benchmark for new films: Whatever else, I can be confident of walking out of the cinema thinking that it was better than those three.

LOL I wasn't all that surprised to see the Indy wannabes at the opening, but I was surprised the theatre let in the fake guns.

I enjoyed the movie, even though I wasn't hopeful after the opening scene. And for what it's worth, I liked it better than Temple of Doom.

  5. Re: Animated Jackie Chan HERO

I've only seen the first season of the Jackie Chan cartoon, and that was a while ago. But if I remember right, Jade is more of a Follower than a DNPC. Jade got into lots of trouble but also provided some useful things to Jackie, so a Follower with lots of Unluck.

  6. Re: Magic Items for the Holidays

I've not built any of these, yet, but....

    1) Pendant (or other jewelry) of Holiday Music - using Images to the Hearing Sense Group.

    2) Bell of Giving - ringing the bell makes listeners more like to give to your charity (Mind Control?)

    3) Table of Feasting - (or maybe just a tablecloth) - A never ending supply of food (probably Life Support - no need to eat)

    4) Tree of Present Storing (needs a better name) - no matter how many presents you put under this tree, there's always room for more (standard bag of holding build - just shaped like a tree).

  7. Re: Building a Library

I have also recently gotten back into Hero (not liking anything I'm hearing about 4E DnD), I have bought lots of stuff. Of the stuff that's useful for all campaigns, I really like:

Hero Designer - Quick 'n' (mostly) easy character creator.

Ultimate Skill - Can't know to much on how to use Criminology, IMHO

Hero System Bestiary - 'Cause pre-made adversaries are just cool.

  8. Re: Sonic Screwdrivers

I do slightly remember Sylvester McCoy making some kind of mention of a war. But that could just be some kind of beer-induced flashback. :)

But yes, the first real concrete mention was the last couple episdoes with the Dalek where he mentioned a fleet of Daleks attacking Gallifrey. I'm still not quite sure of the timeline or exactly what happened. I'm hoping that this is something they tucked into the gap in series and will flesh out a bit over the next couple seasons.

And speaking of Daleks, I've been trying to figure the best way to build them. Technically, they're a creature inside a vehicle, but since they rarely (if ever) leave the vehicle (we've only fully seen the creature inside with the new series), they could also be built as a regular character (probably with some severe Physical Limitations).
