  1. Re: Minor player problem ... Tell your player to watch "Mystery Men". "That's your power? A gun? I mean, there's no theme at all."
  2. GM in question here: I was thinking something along the lines of "The Pure Fighting Art", or some such, translated into German of course. Translate away...Danka
  3. One of my players has a MP of hand attacks defined as specialized punches. One does standard damage, one is autofire and one is NND. In our last game she wanted to do a Move By with her NND HA. Is this possible? My thought was that she could use half her STR, but that she wouldn't get a velocity bonus. While we're on the subject, how about an Autofire Moveby?
  4. Can an attacker Breakfall out of his own Sacrifice Throw in order to land on his feet?
  5. I've been GMing a Golden Age Champions campaign for the last year and a half and I have found the Duplication power to be one of my best friends. Here are some examples of the fun I've had: 1) "i squared" Standard Duplicating Villain, except when a duplicate is separated from its other clones for an extended period of time it becomes an independent entity. 2) "malevolent millicent" futuristic segmented insect creature, each segment is treated as a duplicate and can function independently (attack separately) etc., similar to the hydra's head idea 3) 'the rising sun", you think they are just four ninjas until they combine into a flaming dragon (dragon is base character with four ninja duplicates, dragon dissappears when duplicates are created) 4) "?" Gladiator with sword and net who creates a mental duplicate of himself, the duplicate appears the same but is completely desolid, however all damage feedbacks to the original, the sword functions as an Ego Attack and the net as a Mental Entangle. 5)"Odin", well you know who he is,; he has a spear named Grungir which is supposed to always hit it's target. I figured it would be dumb to just have it always hit in terms of the game, so this is the solution I came up with. Odin throws the spear, if it hits, then fine. If he misses then the spear becomes a duplicate (independent character) and flys around trying to do a move through on its original target until it finally hits it; it then flies back into Odin's hand. Well, there's mine. Anybody else?

  7. Wow...I'm glad to hear it. I have a real soft spot for V&V. I played it a lot as a kid. I still like pulling it out and making up some random hero/villains to get the creative juices flowing. There is something really refreshing about the ease of character creation as opposed to HERO. Also, you often hit on power combinations that you wouldn't have thought of otherwise. Plus, I love the artwork.
  8. I think I was about 10 or so when Champions came out. A friend of mine had it and he gave me a character sheet and told me to make up a character (w/o the rule book mind you!...remember we were 10). So I drew a picture over the template, filled in some numbers that sounded good to me and wrote down some powers that sounded good. When a closer friend and I finally got our hands on the rule book we immediately misinterpreted the rules for buying Characteristics, and thought that the start value was actually the number of characteristic points you got per what you spent. In otherwords, we thought you got 10 pts of STR for 1 pt., 10 pts of DEX for 3 pts., etc. So of course my first character had a 100 STR!!!!! Why not, if it was so cheap. His name was Black Panther (I was unaware at the time of the Marvel hero by that name). When the Enemies book came out we were really perplexed by how they were calculating the point costs for characteristics, until finally it dawned on us....oh shit!

  10. Can I just say that I resent being called an "Incompetent Normal". Sorry, I've been playing HERO for 20 years. Just because I haven't fulfilled my quota of posts here just means I have a life. Sorry, but I feel offended.
  11. I've been running a golden age campaign for the last year and a half, called "Comet City" (blatant rip-off of Astro City) and have found it immensely fun. Really let's the creative juices flow, without the hangups of having to deal with things like, oh, realism (which really has no place in the comic book universe in my opinion). I mean, if you want realism you can watch Andy Warhol's "Sleep" film right? Zzzzzz... I haven't adapted any previously published heroes from DC/Timely etc. for two reasons 1) I don't feal confident enough in my KS: Comic Book History, and 2) Half the fun of being a GM is making up original NPCs and Villains. But....I really enjoy and find very useful making blatant rip-offs from the golden age. I like beginning each game with a "voice over intro" and often plagerize these from actual comics. Besides the actual Golden Age comics, I also find inspiration in Astro City, anything by Alan Moore (particularly the Golden Age sequencies from Supreme), Hellboy (particulary all the great scenes with Nazi's), and Mike Allred's work (trans-genre brilliance).
