Here Be Dragons presents a medieval bestiary in HERO System gaming terms. Thus, the creatures described are described according to period sources and beliefs, meaning they may be vastly different from "traditional" fantasy RPG depictions. However, have no fear, many of the creatures within are easily adaptable to a multiple of genres and settings, and many include notes describing how to do just that.

They are a joyous bunch who try to avoid open conflict with anyone outside of their clans, but if provoked they become a screaming horde, dressed only in dyed fur. The Aigulf are one of the many races that can be found in the word of Kamarathin and these finely detailed, resin miniatures bring them to life for your games.

While I'm always, always open to suggestions, as the author of this particular book I have some observations/thoughts to offer. Hopefully they will clear things up a bit.
1) This is a very personal project, and one I gave a great deal of thought to. While the font and "primary" front cover are Dave's creations, the "secondary" front cover was selected by me for very specific reasons. It's crowded, urban, depersonalized, and Asian: exactly like the setting of the Posthegemony itself. In fact, the subtext of the book is that urban society is inherently depersonalizing. I've chosen modern and postmodern architecture as the essential symbol of that depersonalization, which is why almost all of the artwork in the book is pictures of buildings, rather than people.
With that said, I do like what Dave has done, though I'm definitely open to alternate suggestions.
2) The title is also mine. I've worked on creating enough terminology for the setting that it's nearly like a second language. The Posthegemony is the Utopian government that controls the Earth in the future. The word was coined by philosopher Nicholas Thoburn and is pretty abstract, but it's best expressed by the pithy statement "History is not, as Carl Marx described it, a class struggle, but rather a struggle to produce class.
Within the context of the book the Poshegemony is a post-postmodern worldwide government that rules by a) making everyone think they are much more individualistic than they really are,
making sure everyone has unlimited access to digital-media based entertainment, and c) make it extremely difficult to figure out who, exactly, is running things through obscurification. (Not that anyone besides the PCs really care, anyhow.)Terra is (of course) the Earth. The word Nomenklatura is Russian, and translates roughly into "names on a list." It's Soviet-era slang for the 200,000 or so people in Communist Russia that manipulated the levers of power. Within the context of the book it refers to the class of techno-bureaucrats that may, or may not, actually run things.
So a literal translation of the title might be: Decadent Post-Postmodern Government: Earth Of The Techno Bureaucrats.
Anyhow, if you want to read a book where a) the HERO System is selectively modified to become a linear group storytelling engine, and
Steve Long wan't around to make sure the crazies stayed in my head where they belonged, pickup a copy of this book. -
