  1. Re: WWYCD: The Guliver Syndrome Pyrie doesn't have a secret identity, so that part isn't a problem. The problem she'd have is that she's now six and a half times taller than she was, which means she needs 275 times the already ridiculous amount of food she needs to sustain her high-temperature metabolism. So she's going to try and round up a constant supply of food until someone (anyone!!!) can shrink her back to normal size.
  2. Re: High-body temperature character? Thanks for that I'd initially created the character without using an RPG system, and have created her in a few different ones, including City of Heroes. But with HERO, I want to try and simulate the exact effects. You're probably right in that I'm worrying too much about it ;; Besides, with her level of heat, I think that what would melt would be any off-the-rack tights she'd happen to pick up ;; She's not been able to use lip balm (or makeup, for that matter) since she gained her powers. Now to find a HERO group so I can play her ;;

    Re: Let's Do Lunch Pyrie doesn't have a Secret ID, so she wouldn't be worried about her identity being compromised. She'd question the guy's sanity, though, as her exploits so far mainly concern run-ins with organized crime (which might not be too healthy to publicize even if they did use fictional names). Also, good luck finding a teenage actress willing to work with pyrotechnics on the necessary scale--especially if Pyrie's anywhere near the set ^_-

It's nice to have a good model for a barely-controlled fire character when working on one!) So there are a lot of customization options, which will keep me happy (until I run out of character slots) I also like the fact they're calling respeccing "retconning"; it means they're really working at keeping the comic-book feel to the game.

  12. Re: Soliloquy and threats Sometimes the best sort of threat is understatement. For instance, answering a hero's defiance with a simple "Really." before revealing he's mind-controlled the hero's DNPC, who is moving in for the kill. If the villain's a bit more bombastic in nature, I recommend tracking down a bunch of old comics written by Stan Lee. He's very good at mixing alliteration ("By the hoary hosts of Hoggath!") with eloquence. Or watch any Bond movie with Ernst Stavro Blofeld; they also have a lot of the standard villain speeches. Eventually you'll get the idea, and find yourself rattling off things like "Pathetic worms! Did you feel your puny powers could be any match for my brilliance? None can stand before me, especially not the likes of you! MwahahahahaHAHAHAHA!!!" in no time ^_-

She hated her boring school as well, and went out of her way to cause problems. She'd gotten involved in some "gang"-related incidents at school (actually poseurs who were trying to be a gang with no idea of what that actually meant) and had had trouble with the police a few times, usually over shoplifting. She'd run away from home a few times as well. All of this was to get back at her parents and school for being boring. Little did she know that her parents were not nearly as boring as they seemed to her: 'Piri's father was in fact distantly related to an East Coast crime family. Said family matters intruded roughly into her life when someone claiming to be her father's cousin Gino approached her father about leaving his practice and going east to work in the "family business", which 'Piri's father turned down. "Cousin Gino" told him there were other ways to make him cooperate.... 'Piri didn't think much of this threat until a few days later, when she was run off the road by a large black car and forcibly taken to a dockside warehouse. There, "Cousin Gino" told her she'd be held until her father changed his mind, or else.... 'Piri didn't really stop to think, she charged one of the men holding her, bowling him over, and ran for the nearest exit. Amidst gunfire, there was an explosion 'Piri shouldn't have survived. Quite to her surprise she did, though; even more surprising was the fact that she was sheathed in fire. She quickly discovered she could fly and throw firebolts; she used these powers to burn the warehouse to the ground, killing "Cousin Gino" and all his henchmen. Personality/Motivation Pyrie's personality is as fiery as her powers, and she has a tendency to leap before she looks. She is torn between wanting to have fun adventures and the responsibility which comes with her barely-controllable powers. Though she pretends not to care about others' feelings, she's very worried about what would happen if she lost control of her powers. Unfortunately her quick temper causes her to go on all-out attacks which can cause the collateral damage she longs to avoid. Quote "You've messed with me long enough. Now BURN!!" Little did she know that her parents were not nearly as boring as they seemed to her: 'Piri's father was in fact distantly related to an East Coast crime family. Said family matters intruded roughly into her life when someone claiming to be her father's cousin Gino approached her father about leaving his practice and going east to work in the "family business", which 'Piri's father turned down. "Cousin Gino" told him there were other ways to make him cooperate.... 'Piri didn't think much of this threat until a few days later, when she was run off the road by a large black car and forcibly taken to a dockside warehouse.     Re: Pyrie Thank you for your comments. I'll see about dropping the STR (she probably shouldn't be able to lift 340+ kg, anyway ;; ) and eliminating the unnecessary Always On and Visible effects. The high body temperature problem had occurred to me She wears a lot of natural-fiber clothes (which don't melt like synthetics), and her superhero costume (once she's found a team with the requisite funding/know-how) will be made of a heat-transparent material which doesn't catch fire or melt/scorch/cook at the temperatures she's capable of producing. Until then, though, she does spend a lot on replacing clothes ;;

    I've been away from Champions since Fourth Edition, and thanks to Champions Online have been inspired to try and get back into HERO System (after years of gaming in systems with fewer characteristics and much less math). I've got a character (originally built for a campaign which didn't use a rules system at all) that I'm trying to convert into HERO 5er. Pyrie is a seventeen-year-old girl with a bad temper who discovered she had the power to create fire (not to mention use it as a weapon, as a defense, and as a way to travel) when she was kidnapped by her father's Mafia-connected relatives (long story). Her main problem is that she can't completely control her powers, so always exudes a certain amount of heat. I've asked on the rules board about how to create that effect; now I'd like to have the character as built vetted by people much more familiar with the system. Thanks in advance!   19. I hate to start a new thread with my first post on a message board, but I've got a question which I can't find an easy answer for. I played Champions 4th Edition back in college (1994-1996), but haven't really done anything with it since. My interest was piqued in Champions Online, so I decided to try getting back into the HERO System. I've purchased Hero Designer and the PDF of Sidekick so far. I'm trying to create a superhero I had originally created for a campaign which didn't use any formal system (bad idea, I know, especially when the players are playing the supervillains). Her powers are flame-based, and include the standard flight, fire blasts, and force field. But the problem I'm having is how to simulate one of her Disadvantages. You see, her standard body temperature is over 150 degrees Fahrenheit, so she's very hot to the touch. Right now I've built it as Distinctive Features (concealable, major reaction), but I'm not sure that quite captures all the problems associated with being that much hotter than normal. In my image of her, makeup and soft foods tend to melt the instant she touches them, anyone who touches her draws back immediately as if burned (for obvious reasons), synthetic fabrics tend to melt, and so forth. Any suggestions?
