  1. Re: The Dysfunctional Super Team! Given that Pyrie's in the "so new to her powers she can barely control them" group, she fits right in. She didn't get picked for her leadership abilities; probably she's there to be monitored like everyone else in the group (why else would the government assemble a superteam like that?). Her volatile personality isn't going to help matters much, nor is her habit of charging in to situations blindly......
  2. Re: Superhero Legacy 2: He took my old ID! Pyrie started the superhero business at age sixteen, so she'd probably have burnt out (no pun intended) on it before she hit 40. She'd definitely be curious about any girl with both her powers and the attitude to try and use her name in crimefighting. The phrase "fighting fire with fire" comes to mind...... If there's a good reason for this person to be using Pyrie's name, she'll offer to teach them about controlling their powers-after she's taken them down a notch or three.
  3. Re: Character Background I normally start from a simple character concept, a few-word description of the character's abilities. From there, I figure out the character's name (both heroic alias and secret identity) and personality, and start working up the background. After that, I fill in background details according to the world the character will be played in and get an idea of the character's costume. Only after the character is created do I bother statting the character out.
  4. Re: Superhero Legacy. Passing on a Name One character (or, more precisely, group of characters) I created for one game was the Sentinel. Originally a hero in World War II, he first chose his sidekick to replace him in the 1950s. When said sidekick got too old, he picked a young black man from 1960s Georgia to replace him. The third Sentinel chose a female law-school student in the early 1980s, who then chose the grandson of the first Sentinel in the mid 1990s. Of course, that overlooks the extradimensional entity who endowed the first one (and all subsequent ones) with near-superhuman abilities, who also formed a mind link with each successive Sentinel as the old one retired. Thus, you've got five minds from three generations (roughly speaking), all working together on the same problem. It's a good way to guarantee that one's successor maintains the original's ideals
  5. Re: "Hull? I can't be in Hull!" Pyrie, being a Millennial, would have no clue about how to live in a world without cell phones or the Internet. Her barely-controllable flame powers would cause her innumerable problems, as the flameproof fabric which comprises her costume won't be available for the next six decades, thus eliminating the possibility of a secret identity. This doesn't take into consideration the problem of a teenage girl walking around in a skintight leotard in that era in the first place...... She's probably going to spend a lot of time running afoul of the law: public indecency (if she's in costume, or if she gets at all agitated while dressed in period clothes), disturbing the peace (teenagers didn't talk back in the way Pyrie does), arson (if she loses control of her powers), assault, etc. In order to have any chance of a "normal" life, she'd probably have to join a circus ;;
  6. Re: Crisis of Infinite Champions: 10 brave heroes Pyrie would volunteer at once; she's too hotheaded to even think about the consequences...... Until the finality of the situation dawned on her. She'd then spend the final 24 hours panicking and saying goodbye to her parents and friends--probably over the phone, as she'd be to nervous to keep herself from igniting. when the time comes to enter the portal, though, she'd go with no hesitations, hoping that the Anti-Monitor is flammable.
  7. Re: WWYCD: "Dear Superhero" (Warning: Ugly situation) Pyrie wouldn't think twice (in fact, she probably wouldn't even think once); she'd steal a supersonic plane from (insert superteam name here) and fly it to Duhu. Assuming she didn't crash along the way, she'd then see about finding Tazera and Ubru. She'd find out the situation from him, and see what use her fire powers could be in discouraging the rebels and government troops. Of course this would make her an international criminal, but at sixteen she's not thinking about consequences. She'll probably wind up killing people in the process, which will give her nightmares, but she'll tell herself it's worth it. Even if the situation gets worse, she'll tell herself she's doing the right thing.

    Powerless

    Re: Powerless Pyrie is probably going to feel relief at being able to touch things without burning them, but that relief will only last until she remembers that her father's cousin, the one with connections to organized crime, won't be dead in this world and will be trying to recruit her father, which means she's going to get kidnapped (or worse) again. So she'd probably spend the time tracking down people she remembers as superheroes and trying to convince them of what's happened before anything can happen to her family.

    Origin in a Box

    Re: Origin in a Box Pyrie, being in the target age bracket and thus probably knowing a number of the new heroes, would be very concerned. However, given her near-nonexistent detective skills, she'd turn to her mentors to lead the investigation. She knows firsthand how dangerous the superheroic life can be for teens, and can't bear the thought of any of her friends getting themselves killed because they haven't learned when to use their powers. If the game turns out to have been designed for nefarious reasons, she'll be among the spearhead of heroes who take the company involved down.
  10. Re: 6E art? As cool as the idea of an Anime HERO book sounds, it's a bit like making a HERO System HERO sourcebook; anime is a medium rather than a genre unto itself. Unless, of course, you can find a genre definition which makes Dragonball, Maison Ikkoku, and Gundam all fit into the same universe...... ^_-
  11. Re: Lose Weakness Could you buy it as Lack of Weakness, limited so that it only works on a given power after the third (or whateverth) time said power is used against it? Call it a -1 like Thia Halmades suggested......

  13. Re: Building a city for your superheroes... From my experience, you don't need anything overly complex unless/until a plot point depends on the relative geography of the city. Just get a relative idea of the layout of the city (coastal city, by a river, on a plain, in the mountains) and what direction important locations are from each other. You'll probably want detailed descriptions of important locations, but you don't need anything as detailed as a map of New York (for instance) for the entire city. As for NPCs, any that the PCs will interact with on a regular basis are a must, though they don't necessarily need to be fully statted out (unless they're going to be involved in combat on a regular basis). You'll want to have some idea about city officials who are regularly seen in the news (the mayor, police chief, and so forth), though they can be just names and general descriptions unless they find themselves actively threatened/fighting evil on a regular basis.
  14. Re: Deconstructing Self Pyrie is reckless by nature, but even she would pause for a moment to regret all the things she'd never be able to do. Then she'd dive in, burning brightly. She wouldn't expect to survive, and probably wouldn't even expect to win. But sitting there doing nothing isn't in her nature.
  15. Re: The Price of Power Pyrie would panic once she figured out the connection. When (literally) cooler heads prevailed and got her to the point of rationality, she'd ask them to find out what was happening and WHY it was happening to her. If possible, she'd want them to stop whatever was causing the power transfer before another super was killed. She's already traumatized by the lives lost when she gained her powers; being responsible for (or even benefitting from) more death is really going to freak her out.
  16. Re: in the spirit of christmas!
  17. Re: in the spirit of christmas! Since you're offering, I'll request a portrait of Pyrie, the fire-based super who is also the main character in a novel I wrote for NaNoWriMo this year. She's also the character in my avatar and signature, but I'd rather you based the portrait on the text rather than those graphics. Below is a description taken from the text of said novel: She was about five feet, five inches tall and athletically built, but wasp-waisted. Her face was attractive, with high cheekbones and large brown eyes framed by chin-length reddish-blond hair. Her eyes were quite literally blazing, the flames reaching beyond her eyelashes and almost touching her eyebrows. The costume . . . was made of brick-red material. . . . It covered her from her neck to the tips of her toes, and fit quite tightly without restricting her movement at all. Her face twisted in concentration, and tendrils of flame began to climb from the palms of her hand, twisting around her arms and body, spiraling down her legs and around her neck. She pulled her arm back as if to throw a punch, twisting her body. With a yell, she threw her open hand forward. The flames peeled off her arm and wrapped around her hand, coalescing into a loose sphere which fired forward with a scream much like the ascent of a Roman candle shot. Pyrie hovered six feet off the ground, flames roaring out of the soles of her feet and tendrils of fire coiling around her arms and torso. The fire in her eyes blazed angrily.
  18. Re: Which Champion are you I seem to be Defender as well.
  19. I'm in the middle of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo), and I decided that the subject of my novel would be the origin of my character Pyrie. I was wondering if anyone else has tried something like this with one of their characters, or if anyone else is doing so this year. Please let me know if I'm the only one suffering through this My NaNoWriMo details can be found here: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/user/204788 I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this, but as it's about a superhero built in HERO System I felt it best to include it in the Champions subforum. If it should go elsewhere, feel free to move it

    Executioner

    Re: Executioner As Pyrie is still a minor, she would be ineligible to serve in such a capacity regardless of her willingness to do so. Also, she's still bothered by the deaths she caused when she first discovered her powers (though everyone who died had been part of the organization which had kidnapped her), so she'd be very hesitant to be in a situation where she's got to make the decision to kill another person, no matter what crimes said person has committed.
  21. Re: Damn Birds Pyrie, not being known for subtlety, would take out her frustrations on the nonliving gunman. She'd force-feed him firebolts until he was a glowing red puddle on the ground. No, she wouldn't stop to think about collateral damage until well after the fact ;;
  22. Re: (WWYCD) Superhero Assaination... Every character I've ever roleplayed would have the same reaction to this: the assassin has to be stopped. No amount of corruption justifies killing the (presumably) legally-elected President. Besides, killing the President would just put the Vice-President into power, so if you disagree with the President's policies, you're just putting his hand-picked successor into power, with no new elections involved. Not to mention completely invalidating whatever point the would-be assassin was trying to make in the first place.
  23. Re: A bit of advice for fellow newcomers... Thank you for this wonderful piece of common sense! It so rare to see that associated with any roleplaying message board. I'll see about using this when I actually get my first HERO System campaign started; I've got at least one player who needs to read this......
  24. Re: closed beta applications I'm signed up as well. Hopefully things will be calm enough by then that I'll have a chance to play ;;
  25. Re: Terminator, with a twist! Given Pyrie's mostly nonexistent technical know-how, the first thing she'd do is ask both sides if they're insane. Then (once the repercussions, if any, of her losing control of her powers, if she does, are resolved) she'll try to find out more details, either from the humans or the robots, depending on which group seems more reasonable at the time. After that, roasting the robots and taking out the humans' weapons would be the next order of business. Pyrie's too young to die (in her opinion), so she's not going to just let the humans kill her.
