Champions, where are they?

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I'm new to the 5E Champions, but I do have a few books (5E, VIPER, and Battlegrounds). I have some questions about the Champions drawn from other posts and the pictures in the Champions Battlegrounds book.

Who are the champions now? What I've seen they seem to be:

Powered armor: Defender?

Raven/Crow/Blackbird/Magpie: Looks like either a detective or sorcerer

Flying girl in the halter-top/half shirt w/leather jacket?

Alien looking lion guy: Has ridges on forehead and shoulders.

Maybe a female that looks like a sorceress: Solitare?

Who are these new people and basic make-up? What happened to Seeker, Obsidian, Jaguar, and Quantum (and others if Defender & Solitare aren't in)?

Thank you for your time.

Defender - Power Armor

Nighthawk - Detective/Batmanesque

Sapphire - Energy Projector

Ironclad - Metallic Brick

Witchcraft - Sorceress

The others do not exist or have been killed. See Champions and Champions Universe for the full history.

The "bird dude" is named Nighthawk, and he is sorta a "Batman" of the birds, if you will. Basicly a Martial Artest with a touch of gagetear.

Flying Girl In The Halter-top: Ex-singer, and now superpowered mutent and teen sensation Sapfire.

Alien looking lion guy: Um, he is covered in metal. And his name is Ironclad.

Sorcerous: Defently right. Her name is Witchcraft.

What hapened to Seeker, Obsidien, Jaguar, and Quantum? The rights to theas charaters reverted to there owners. That is what happened. Since Steve Long created Defender(I think), he was the only one who survived.

They're in the 5th Edition Champions Genre book.

Who are the champions now? What I've seen they seem to be:

Powered armor: Defender?

The closest to unchanged. James Harmon is Defender.

Raven/Crow/Blackbird/Magpie: Looks like either a detective or sorcerer

That would be Nighthawk, a gadgeteer/martial artist chiefly.

Flying girl in the halter-top/half shirt w/leather jacket?

Sapphire, a mutant energy projector, she's a singer and has a public id.

Alien looking lion guy: Has ridges on forehead and shoulders.

There is a metalicsknned alien, named Ironclad.

Maybe a female that looks like a sorceress: Solitare?

Witchcraft, very similar, but not the same. More of a 'pure mystic' type.

Who are these new people and basic make-up? What happened to Seeker, Obsidian, Jaguar, and Quantum (and others if Defender & Solitare aren't in)?

The 5th Edition setting of CU is best seen as a total reboot. No real connection to the 4th Ed except some characters got a rewrite in the new continuity.

I do not believe the rights reverted I believe Steve Long just did not care for the other members of the Champions and so created new members, some, like Ironclad, based on the 4th edition versions.

Er--Except for Nighthawk, they're ALL based on the 4th ed versions.

Or, at least, there are HEAVY correlations...

Well, unless you count Kenetik as the new Jaguar. That's a bigger jump than Seeker to Nighthawk.

There are heavy correlations, but I look at personalities over numbers when I see characters. If I just look at numbers then there really is no differnce between Pulsar and Sapphire. :)

To me the champions are not that interesting. I know they are supposed to be examples of archetypes but they would be more interesting if they had less standard powers and abilities, with something unique and ususual about each of them. But they are ok for what they are: a medium-powered hero group that can share a city with pcs and not make them feel overshadowed.
