Nero's Boot
Hello! I just ordered a bunch of HERO 5th edition stuff, and while I joyously await actually getting my stuff, I'd like to see in advance how flexible the system is! Could someone do me a huge favor and stat up the follow superheroes and villains, to show me how flexible and adaptive the HERO system is: Doomsday (the Superman villain, of course!), the Flash (any incarnation), Green Lantern (any incarnation, really), Supreme (the Image comics quasi-omnipotent "hero"), and Warlock (from the New Mutants). --thank you, I'm really looking forward to getting my rulebook and supplements NB
JJR
Re: In honor of my first HERO purchases... Writing characters is not an easy task in Hero. Character creation is the most difficult part of the whole game. What you are asking for would be several hours of work. What I might suggest is that you go here: http://www.sysabend.org/champions/gnborh/ There are many character write-ups from different people. They are for 4th edition but they are 97% usuable with 5th edition rules. That would give you some character basis to begin with. Welcome to the club. Hermit
Re: In honor of my first HERO purchases... Some of the products in 5th may already be able to help you out. Metorman in Champions Unvierse 5th Ed has some Green Lantern like ablitities for example. Welcome aboard btw.
Lord Liaden
Re: In honor of my first HERO purchases... If you really want to explore HERO's versatility in regards to building published supers, I'm going to direct you to the classic "Character String" thread from these discussion boards. It gives you a large number of writeups, including some of the characters you mention, and often multiple writeups of the same character from different people so you can compare their interpretations. What makes it even more interesting is that people discuss the reasons for their choices, the source materials they work from, and the pros and cons of particular decisions, which helps you get into the thought processes behind the writeups. As is the case with the previous link posted here, these writeups are for 4E HERO System, but the differences are generally small and easy to figure out. These posts were archived from an earlier software incarnation of the boards, and the links between pages no longer work, so I'll post links to each page successively: http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-2.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-3.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-4.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-5.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-6.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-7.html http://www.herogames.com/oldForum/Champions/000434-8.html There are HERO writeups available for characters and objects from many other sources: manga/anime, movies, books, and other games. If you suggest something you'd be interested in we could probably point you toward some pertinent examples.
Peregrine
Re: In honor of my first HERO purchases... Welcome to HERO! Once you learn the system, you will likely do your own such write-ups, if nothing else than as an exercise in working with the system to learn it better. I echo the suggestions of checking out existing write ups, but don't let someone else's version stop you from trying your own. That's one of the beauties of HERO - there is seldom 'one most correct way' of doing something. Also, see Lord Liaden's sig. Don't forget it. HERO can be a lot of fun, if you let it.
