Re: Musings on Random Musings

The thread was hostile and antagonistic to begin with. As far as I'm concerned' date=' Chuck was baited. Indignance that he took the bait and the thread was closed down is disingenuous. You got what you asked for.[/quote']

I knew no good would come from that thread, but Chuck crossed lines.

But nothing untoward was posted. I mean, if they have a hard-on for someone then they should deal with the person and not close every thread he touches, IMHO.

I don't know. I smell a double standard.

Eh, whenever someone gets out of line, he's looked at closer. Not so much a double standard, but probhation perhaps?

Hey' date=' If I got mad at everyone who disliked the music I liked I'd not be married now :D(intersting fact, my wife loves some of my music and stomachs the rest, but boy does she hate "Love is Like a Rock" from Donnie Iris)[/quote']

There's a name I hadn't heard in ages. My wife & I share some music, but have some strong differences elsewhere.

It wasn't Recipe a Day, was it?

"NO! The crepes parisienne is made with SWISS cheese, you Commie bastard!"

No, thank God.... which reminds me, once my arm is out of the sling I need to post the rest of the 50 Chili Recipe challenge.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

I posted recently that the Republican party is controlled by

billionaires for the benefit of billionaires and is hardly the "party of the

people".

In response, I got "The democrats got a bunch of rich folk too".

I note with a smile that none of the people who posted the response tried to

make the statement that wealthy democrats are anywhere near as self-seeking and

callously indifferent to the "common man" as wealthy conservatives.

I'm not a conservative (I don't think, though I entirely admit I'm not a liberal and probably have a somewhat stronger anti-liberal bias than anti-conservative one), but still may I say "yuck, phooey on this musing" for the record, but not to engage in debate and move on? :)

Good answer! And of course I agree with you 1000%, good citizen.

Fear the Vallejo Fist, I repeat!

YAY! The legend grows.

Though, the Vallejo Kick also rings true.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

It's almost impossible to be stressed out while listening to

Luscious Jackson.

Oh yeah! Shall rep you shortly for that one! They scored #29 of my top 100 Alternative Songs of 1990-1999 with "Here", #63 with "Ladyfingers", and I really loved "Daughters of the Chaos" even though I didn't feel it made the top 100 cut (although in 1993 I rated that song as #41, just above Nirvana's "All Apologies" and just below Belly's "Feed the Tree").

For fun, here's my top 172 Alternative songs of the 1990s (1990-1999) - while I did this from a much larger list of top 100 Alternative songs I have for each of those years to achieve a simple top 100, I actually compiled this top 172 as I felt there was a break-point at 172 below which I felt there was a clear break in quality.

Please note they had to be actual singles and not just songs off albums.

Oh, and Blink 182 made it to #55 with "What's My Age Again?", though that was their only appearance in the total 1990s list (they had other songs in various individual years though).

Re: Musings on Random Musings

Oh dear God I'm surrounded by heretics!!!

Blink-182 is a rock/punk band from San Diego, CA. And I don't mean like REAL punk... I mean soft-core 90's mainstream-style punk. Hard drums and guitar licks. You'd recognize a few of their sings, I'm sure.

They rock my world.

Yeah, my girlfriend takes me home when I’m too drunk to drive

And she doesn’t get all jealous when I hang out with the guys

She laughs at my dumb jokes when no one does

She brings me mexican food from Sombrero’s just because

(yeah, just because)

And my girlfriend likes UL and DHC

She’s so smart and independent, I don’t think she needs me

Quite half as much as I know I need her

I wonder why there’s not another guy that she’d prefer

And when I feel like giving up

Like my world is falling down

I show up at 3am

She’s still up watching vacation,

And I see her pretty face

It takes me away to a better place and

(I know that everything [3x]) everything’s gonna be fine

(I know that everything [3x]) everything’s gonna be fine

Yeah, my girlfriend takes collect calls from the road

And it doesn’t seem to matter that I’m lacking in the bulge

She laughs at my dumb jokes when no one does

She brings me mexican food from Sombrero’s just because

And when I feel like giving up

Like my world is falling down

I show up at 3am

She’s still up watching Vacation,

Re: Musings on Random Musings

Oh, and Von D-Man, hope you feel well soon - do you think this is the nearly-inevitable adjustment sickness most people (but especially Americans) get when they settle in a new country with its new various funky stuff and less sterilized water?

(PS - to be clear, "less sterilized water" is not a slam whatsoever, apparently US water is cleaner than even Canadian water, and some believe it's "too" clean in that it shields the human system from too many microbes and such that the body would do better to bulid an immunity to anyway - at least I've heard that claim from some ex-pats)
