Re: IST San Angelo

I was actually considering placing the Avengers, from Marvel Comics, in the San Angelo Universe and having the PC team being their west coast branch, but I thought that a GURPS IST campaign fould be more interesting.

Of course, all the crossovers I've mentioned in various postings would still be there.

Good point. Perhaps I should just have them open an embassy in San Angelo' date=' which, according to R. P. Miller, of Gold Rush Games, is near Sacramento.[/quote']Just for clarification...

The book never actually says it is near Sacramento... nor did I. I said I put my SA in place of Sac, but you can put yours anywhere.

The book says you can place it anywhere, but it was intended to be a Westcoast city.

Not a problem. I like the fact that you have really taken the SA world and ran with it. So many people feel that SA is confined to just the city, but really if people actually read through the book from cover to cover they'll see that the whole world (and beyond) is in play.

Keep up the good work!

I have some interesting posts coming up, folks. We'll visit a hero team in England, a female criminal in France, a grave in Greece, and IST Sinai before returning to the United States and going to the Ross Briothers Circus , the one Holly Collingsworth Valdez works for. We might even watch her get shot out of a cannon.

Re: IST San Angelo

The European public loves its heroes--and sometimes even its villains, if they show style. Heroes are given as much government backing as the U.N. will allow.

One of England's best-known hero teams, The Knights of Pendragon, are a group of men and women imbued with superhuman power by the Green Knight, a protective nature spirit that watches over the world (and in particular the United Kingdom). The current team consists of Francesca Lexley Grace, Kate McClellan, and Joey Chapman. Joey's lover, Lady Jacqueline Falsworth-Crichton, sometimes joins the team.

All posess superhuman strength, endurance and speed, enhansed fighting abilities, and can sense Banes, minor demons that serve a greater demon known as The Red Lord. They can also summon speeder bikes that can jump, through ley space, to alternate realities and cal change from what they're wearing to mystical body armor. They can also converse with the owls that act as the Green Knight's messangers and sentrys.

Francesca Lexley Grace, who prefers to be known onlyas Grace, is a former businesswoman who always fights in armor.

Kate McClellan is Astra TV's fearless and belowed reporter. Kate, a blue-eyed blonde with electrical powers, prefers to fight in street clothes and recently has been seen in the black leather jumpsuit, boots, gloves and jacket she bought just before doing a five-part report on the United Kingdom's motorcycle sub-culture. Her armor, instead of Graces high-tech look, is golden scale-male with a black tabard, hooded cape, black leather boots, gloves and sword belt that holds her scabbarded longsword. The coat of arms on her shield and tabard is, according to some experts, the one Queen Guinevere used after her maggage to King Arthur.

Joey Chapman, the current Union Jack, prefers his old costume to his armor, but has used both.

Lady Jacqueline Falsowrth-Crichton, Jackie to most, is the rejuvinated World War Two British superheroine Spitfire. She can run at superhuman speeds and wears her old costume, minus its mask.

I forgot to add that the Knights, the IST and the Slayers get along quite well. On th France.

As mentioned before, the European public loves its heroes--and sometimes evrn its villains, if they show style. Some criminals, such as le Chat Noir (French for the Black Cat) of France are cult figures for their flamboyance and their refusal to cause serious harm to either persons or property.

Although the book gives no furthur information about le Chat Nori, my version is a tall, polite, and soft-spoken female cat burglar with axquisit taste in loot and a silencer-equipped Beretta 92F is always loaded with knockout darts. Like all of Europe's "gentle" metavillains, confrontations with her are like chess matches instead of battles. She is a bit ticked off at the Suave Marauder, Metahuman Monthly's fashion columnist over comments he made about her matt-black costume and has threatened yto send him a hair ball or two.

Recently, Paris was plaiged by a murderer that targeted only prostitutes. Ordering the IST to let them handle it, the police were unable to catch him. However, le Chat Noir caught him in the act while burglarizing the 20th story penthouse apartment that belonged to a wealthy Parasian laweyer. After knocking out, binding and gagging him (the lawyer had already bound and gagged his victim, she stole what she was after and escaped, tripping the burglar alarm as she left. The Paris Police tried to make it look like they did it, but the headline in the next morning's newspaper, CAT BURGLAR BAGS PROSTITUTE KILLER, and the accompanying story, left them with egg on their face.

Not to derail this thread well, maybe a little, I must say that San Angelo: City of Heroes is my favorite campaign setting. I'm about to start a Champions campaign in which San Angelo will be the hero base.

By the way, did "The Sands of Time" or "Dragon's Gate" ever become produced for the San Angelo setting?

Re: IST San Angelo

We visit Greece to explore a legend. According to Greek legends, 200 Amazon warriors of various ages battled 2 Roman legions in Southern Greece about 150 years BCE. All 200 Amazons died, as did half the Romans.

A few years ago, the battle site, with its mass grave, was uncovered by archaeologists studying other ruins in the area.

The battlefield is now a historic site. A visitors' center, with a gift shop, vending area, and various displays, including weapons and shields from the battle, was built near the grave. Although most of the remains have been covered by dirt and grass, a lexan window covers some of those closest to the center.

Re: IST San Angelo

IST Sinai is our destination. There's nothing special about the embassy, the location, however, is special.

The embassy is within walking distance of Mount Saint Catherine, which is considered one of the most holy spots on Earth. Why? The reason is simple. Mount Saint Catherine is believed by many to be the Biblical Mount Sinai.

The monastery's main source of water is a well, or underground spring, that sits on the very spot where Moses met his future wife, Zipporah, after protecting her and her sisters from an aggressive group of locat sheperds.

The monastery's spiritual heart is the Chapel of the Burning Bush. This chapel sits atop the roots of the Biblical burning bush. A few feet from the chapel is the reputed bush itself, a rare species of the rose family called Rubus Sanctus. This species is endemic to Sinai and extremely long-lived.

Re: IST San Angelo

We are now at the Ross Brothers Circus, where Holly Collingsworth Valdez, President James Collingsworth's married daughter is an aerialist.

As one might expect, she's protected by Secret Service agents. Agent Annie Nelson travels with Mary "Cowgirl" West, the show's 24-hour advance agent. Mary marks the route with paper arrows, lays the lot out and contacts the sponsor. Annie contacts the local authorities. Both women inspect the lot for problems.

Like all circus performers, Holly sets up and checks her own rigging. Several agents, including Agent James Marshall, who heads Holly's detail, wear the same uniform the show's prop department wears and come out when Holly does. For the cannon act, there are two agents standing my to assist. One is at the cannon, which her husband fires, while the other is by the net. Since she hits the net at 12Gs, the agent there doesn't stand under the net. Other agents and law enforcement officers are behind the seats, too. Agent Connie Wells stays as close to Holly as she can and keeps an eye on her from behind the seat wagons, too.

A few numbers for consideration. A circus ring has an outside diameter of 44.5 feet. The areas between the rings, properly known as stages, and the area between the rings and seats, properly known as the hypodrome track, are each 15 feet across. From there, it's 20 feet to the sidewalls and 5 feet more to the stakeline. Plugging the peoper numbers into my calculator, each time Holly's shot from American Beauty, her red, white, and blue circus cannon, she travels 193.5 feet.

The Secret Service agents and police officers behind the seatwagons stand where they have a clear view of both the stands and the backstage area.

Holly is a 5 foot tall blue-eyed woman with waist-length blonde hair and a small frame.Since she's an athlete and muscular, she appears heavy for her build. Since she's an insulin-dependent diabetic, and a human cannonball, she does her best to keep her weight steady.

Due to some government regulations, circuses are required to employ one full-time nurse for each 125 employees and, if they have animals, a veterinarian. If the circus doesn't play large cities, a physician, a dentist, and either a dental assistant or a dental hygienist are strongly suggested.

Rumiko Yamashiro, D.V.M., monitors the health of all the show's animals. Before joining to the circus, she worked at a zoo that closed due to finincial problems. While she was there, a drunken hunter shot the zoo's only leopard, a female that was about to give birth. Rumiko was able to save the baby, a black leopard cub (or kitten) that she named Ebony. Ebony quickly bonded with Rumiko and, when the zoo closed, went with her to the circus where she's part of the menagerie.

The medical team consists of Anne Campbell, M.D., Becca Campbell, R.N., BSN., and Catherine "Cat" Campbell, C.R.N.P. Anne was a physician with her own practice until she sold her practice to a managed care group. Finding out that they were more interested in making money that in caring for their patients, Anne joined her daughter Catherine at the circus. Becca, her daughter and office nurse, joined her. Cat worked at a level one trauma center before being laid off after the hospital she worked for was bought out by another and its trauma center closed.

Laura Clark, D.M.D., and Jill Thomas, R.D.H.. both from Durant, Oklahoma, where the circus has its winter quarters, form the dental team. For several years, Laura was a partner in her father's dental practice and Jill was their hygienist. They both liked the circus and every year gave the circus discount coupons. Finally, he decided to retire and sold the practice to a group in Tulsa. Finding out that they didn't want to help the circus, he gave Laura and Jill some information and suggested that they join the circus. They did, bringing with them informnation about little-known federal grants that would let the circus build the medical and dental offices for free.

Rumiko and Connie always wear black sweaters and jeans, along with footwear suited to the lot. Rumiko also carries a backpack that serves as her medical bag.

Anne, Becca and Catherine Campbell all wear navy-blue flightsuits, because they'll stand up to life on the road, and proper boots.

Jill and Laura wear navy-blue scrubs

Mary and Annie dress like working cowgirls.

A quick stop in Las Vegas.

All Nevada Crime Scene Investigators are deputy sheriffs and must carry a department-approved firearm.

CSI Catherine Willows, the swing-shift supervisor at Clark County's crime lab, is a metahuman. She can become a Bengal tiger that has human intelligence. After a high-speed camera experiment, conducted by computer and video expert Archie Johnson, it was discovered that she has an in between form that resembles a humanoid tiger. Catherine, however, can't, yet, stop the change at that form.

Next, back to San Angelo.

There are a number of important posts mandated by The Committee On Permanent Peacekeeping Forces. They are: the Team Administrator, the Field Leaderor Team Leader, a Public Relations Officer, a Legal Attache, and a Security Chief.

The embassy also has a support staff off 100 or more people. Many are domestic staff, which is headed by the Majordomo. Under him are the Head Housekeeper, who heads the cleaning staff, the Executive Chef, who runs the kitchen and food service staff, and various maintanance technicians. Others are medics, doctors, nurses and medical technicians, or trainers. The remainder are the necessary administrative staff any international embassy must have. Additionally, there are security officers, including the Powered Infantry.

The IST supers go to a special training school before being assigned to an embassy. The courses, in Hero system terms, are, for the San Angelo team: AK San Angelo, AK The United States, Systems Operation, KS International History, min 10 points in martial arts, English langage, Tactics.

Re: IST San Angelo

IST San Angelo is one of the few embassies that's not located in the center of the city. Instead, it's located in University Commons , near UC San Angelo.

Developer Ben Morgan isn't happy about the heroes being there. He wanted that spot and took the U.N. and the man who sold it to them to court to get it. The U.N. assigned Kuntala Singh, the Harvard-educated daughter to two career diplomats to the case. She one easily and is now the embassy's legal attache.

Beth's, a coffee shop in the next block, is a favorite of many off-duty IST staffers.

The IST has a training school for its superheroes. Here's a list of the skills learned, by the San Angelo team, in Hero-system terms.

AK: San Angelo

AK: United States

systems operation

KS: International History

10 points min in martial arts

fluent English

Tactics

Additionally, all heroes must spend at least eight hours a week in combat and physical training.

Re: IST San Angelo

Floors five and six have labs, but white kind? The book doesn't say and there's little information on the floor plans in the book. One is labled "lab" while the other is labled "technical lab".

In my opinion, there are electronics, clinical chemistry, and biochemistry labs as well as one holding a STEM (or scanning/transmission electron microscope). There is probably a photo studio with a darkroom, too, but I think they're on the fourth floor.

Any ideas?
