proditor
Re: This has got to be someone's team plane Ya know, at one point I was in a TORG game that had a cool (IMHO) concept. To combat the invading West Coast realities, the US Military had a special strike team that sortied out of a HIGHLY modified B-52H. They all either could fly or had alternate ways to survive basically being bombed onto a target. It was a trippy unit, I ought to see if I still have them written down somewhere, I could poach the basic idea for Champions in some way, I'm sure. megaplayboy
Re: This has got to be someone's team plane The XB-70 Valkyrie. Would have been a Mach 3 high-altitude bomber. It was superceeded by the original B-1, as theories changed as to what would type of deep penetration into the USSR would be most successful -- the B-1 being a very-low-altitude, under-the-radar bomber. The outer sections of the Valkyrie's wings folded down 90 degrees, and trapped the supersonic shockwave, dramatically increasing lift and decreasing drag at high velocity. One of the posted pictures has a view of the wings in that unique mode. The existence of the Valkyrie prototypes prompted the Soviets to create the MiG-25 Foxbat -- and then the Valkyrie was never put into service. Overestimation of the Foxbat's capabilities played a significant part in the development of the F-15. The one surviving prototype is on display outside at the entrance to the Wright-Patterson Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio(where I spent some of my formative years). It looks like a starship, with those delta wings, the forward canard, and the six giant engines in back.

BoloOfEarth
Re: This has got to be someone's team plane A link to the Grumman... http://prototypes.free.fr/vtol/vtol-8.htm http://prototypes.free.fr/vtol/tilt-jet/gru698_4.jpg This whole site is amazing actually, shame the translate link doesn't seem to work. "You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to proditor again." Great site! Doesn't the Pathfinder II look like a flying sub? (It's the one at the bottom of the page) Piasecki 16H-1A Pathfinder II The German tail-sitter whirligig (scroll down a bit) looks hilarious! Imagine what would happen if the fuselage stopped counter-rotating... BTW, you can force a translation by typing in "http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=" followed by the http address, ie http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=fr&u=http://prototypes.free.fr/vtol/vtol-3.htm.
