How build a "Cerbral Hard Disk"

Recommended Posts

Do you know Jhonny Mnemonic? (film or novel)

Okay, in my idea to converting CP2020 to Hero, i've encountered some difficulties to converting "Cerebro Memory", a.k.a. an Hard Disk in the Brain.

I've thinked about a Clairesentience with No Range, ecc. but fact is: user CANNOT read information inside;

So i can build a "cyber" that permits storage of data?

Re: How build a "Cerbral Hard Disk"

How about eidetic memory with the limitation that it can only be accesed by certain means? Figure that to be a pretty hefty limitation, -1 or so.

Not positive because I never saw the movie or read the book. But this sounds like what you want.

I like the Eidetic memory solution.

Remember that while his brain storage was the mcguffan for the movie, it didn't actually give him any abilites useful in the adventure. As such, while it is something that ought to cost points, it should be pretty cheap.

Yet a datatheif character like the one I played in a Mechwarriors game would benefit greatly.

I built this ability for my Robotman PC in the Global Guardians like this:

PKG Flash Memory *only electronic information or data from other electronic devices.

Eidetic Memory (I custom addered the Detect roll to increase his recollection rate to 20-)

Speed Reading 10,000x

This represented his ability to download tremendous amounts of information in a short period of time and store the information indefinitely.

You could also add charges/clips to simulate a Cerebral Floppy Drive... so to speak.

Re: How build a "Cerbral Hard Disk"

I would simply buy the character a Computer with decent Int and Eidetic Memory, low Dex, no skills (or perhaps minimal ones such as PS: Storage Device ;) ), and Speed+Speed Reading that you (or your GM) think is sufficient for the kind of transfer rate you desire.

If you really wanted to be thorough, you might apply something like Invisibility, Desolidification, or even the Invisible Power Effects Advantage to the Computer, but I probably wouldn't bother.

Limited Eidetic Memory is definitely the way to go, but I doubt Speed Reading is necessary. Perhaps if the "cerebral disk" can I/O data at some astounding rate compared to most computers. But even then, as a GM I wouldn't charge for it unless I had some specific campaign reason to restrict I/O rates via character points.

Re: How build a "Cerbral Hard Disk"

OK, just thinking out loud here...erm....Computer Link (perk) at the 3 point level (only to store data, not access it (-1/2): 2 points. Maybe. The computer being in your own head, obviously. You could have more or less points for more or less storage.

I mean in essense what you are after is a device for data smuggling. It is a money maker rather than anything else, so, as has been pointed out, I'd be disinclined to make it cost too much.
