SKJAM!
In the past few months, the government of the country the player characters live in/visit most frequently has been acting kind of screwy. Some of the decisions made by the government have affected the player characters, such as the one where all metahumans were declared non-citizens and threatened with deportation, or the one where the country was temporarily surrendered to giant insectoid aliens. Others, like the act requiring all men over seventy years old to wear clean underwear at all times "and on the outside so we can check", have been less onerous but equally dubious. Each time, the government has "come to its senses" after the consequences of these strange actions becomes clear, but it's still pretty freaky. Various people have been looking into just what is going on, since the government seems incapable of investigating this on its own. (Indeed, any government agent who investigates is told in no uncertain terms to lay off.) One of the investigators gets in touch with the player characters with bad news. According to his/her/its findings, there's evidence that the insane actions of the government were caused by an UNTIL Black Ops program, involving some of the world's most admired metahumans. And worse, it looks like the orders go all the way to the top of UNTIL. It's some very damning evidence, and would surely cripple UNTIL if the word got out. But there's also the possibility that the evidence was planted by someone who wants just that to happen. ETA: If the evidence can be taken at face value, the motive for the operation is to destroy faith in the national government so that the people of the country will accept a UN-mandated caretaker adminstration being put in, the first step in creating an one-world government. What would your character do?
Chuckg
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Starguard -- her and Horus-Re find out the Truth of the matter. If UNTIL is genuinely guilty, time for truth to come out. If not, some villain needs a pounding. Dr. Pain -- is completely out of his depth here. Time to start calling in friends. Baron von Darien -- see 'Starguard', only his methods for finding out truth are enormously less, mmmm, enlightened.
Zed-F
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Soulbarb is way out of her depth. As a minor, she has no way to even get to the relevent cities (New York / Washington) to investigate the problem. If there's something she can do locally in Houston to look into things, she'll look into them, but she's not the sort to jump to conclusions. She'll try to figure out what's really going on before she acts. Cerulean would probably bring this to the attention of Dr. Quantum and the rest of the team, and let them decide what to do. Earth politics are something he'd rather keep his nose out of, seeing as he doesn't really understand them. He'd consider this as yet more evidence that this 'democracy' thing we have going doesn't really work. (Cerulean comes from an alternate earth where the governing principle is meritocracy.) McCoy
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Millennium is not the best telepath in the world, but once he is absolutely sure he has traced the responsibility all the way up the chain, his 26 COM, 40 PRE, and reputation for integrity makes him the perfect one to break the story to the public. Iron Will as a technomage, he can pretty well get around both magical and tech defenses. Investigate discretely, spill the beans when he is certain. Cheeta and Snow Leopard are not really equipted to investigate, but will back up anyone who is investigating this, maybe some scouting also. Dolphin is probably still busy trying to help the Mantii adjust their Karma, but if not will cooperate with anyone discretely investigating this. assault
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? To solve this mystery... I will require... a dog, a monkey, a robot... and a small boy... Now I have to design a character to match that quote.

SKJAM!: Are the WWYCD threads your sole province, or would you be open to someone else posting a WWYCD topic? I'm asking because I've got an idea for one that was inspired, in part, by some of Mark Rand's more recent posts. Major Tom

SKJAM!
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Cool. Major Tom As Assault said. A couple of guidelines I've found helpful: no more than one thread every couple of days, and never try to "force" a particular response. Don't go ballistic when this happens. (Example -- a locked-room murder mystery and somebody's character is a retrocognitive, a scenario that involves being overwhelmed by a horde of vampires and somebody's character has 'Blazing Mystic Solar Aura' as a power, etc.)

(Example -- a locked-room murder mystery and somebody's character is a retrocognitive, a scenario that involves being overwhelmed by a horde of vampires and somebody's character has 'Blazing Mystic Solar Aura' as a power, etc.) No problem. I only go (semi-) ballistic when some kid who left his or her brains at home crosses the street against the light, in spite of being told to wait. Then I find myself wishing for a shotgun loaded with rock-salt ammo. As Assault said. It takes time to come up with a decent question/ topic anyway. Major Tom
ghost-angel
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Jessica - not equiped for investigation, helps the team by stomping that which needs to be stomped. She's also blunt, so if anyone left it in her hands she'd walk up to the head of UNTIL, drop the evidence and hear him out. Silence - watched Rome fall (with a satisfying thud), as long as they aren't actively attempting to kill off the species she really could care less about random rules they adopt. Her rule of thumb is eventually all empires fall.
Broblawsky
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Here's an interesting thought: suppose the UNTIL black ops project in question was some kind of mass mind-control experiment. When it was botched, it gave most of the federal government officials progressively worsening brain damage. They may seem sane (or as sane as politicians get) right now, but in a couple of months, they'll be nutty as a fruit-cake. WWYCD?

Starguard, I know, could do mass "Brain Heal", but other characters might not be so lucky.
Chuckg
Re: WWYCD: Multilateral Menace? Well, maybe not /mass/ "Brain Heal" -- my DM is understandably reluctant to let me have MegaScale Area Transforms, and I agree with him -- but she can definitely drop the white light o' healing mana on any individual she's in front of, and that lets her get enough key officials back to sanity to keep the situation from deterioriating too badly during the weeks it takes to get all the rest. What would your character do? Glarg: Does whatever the team decides on. Panweesio: The bigger the govt. the easier to hide from them. Approves of it all; may help, but from the sidelines. Thena: Thinks Earth needs a single govt. but doesn't like the idea of sneaking it up on people. She'll be conflicted; her actions will depend on the details of what the UN Black Ops folx do. Lana van Hoom: She would hate there being a one-govt. world, would fight it every way a RICH person could. She would hire detectives to look into things, get the details.
