"What do you mean, the character came off the paper and won't come back?"

Another thread prompted this one. (Now, how often have you read THOSE words?)

 

How often has your character taken a life of his own and started doing stuff you didn't plan on him/her doing, and you couldn't get him to behave? What happened with it?

One of my favorite NPCs went insane. It wasn't intentional. Eventually, I moved him out of the plotline. Sometimes SatinKitty mentions him in the context of her character's reactions (he was her love interest) and it's very sad.

I'd just finished designing a character, and thought to myself, "Man, this guy will be a great hero!". Character's voice told me, "Screw that, I'm a villain."

I read 'Shades of Black'.

 

I tried to make myself go with it.

 

... it didn't work. At present, the only reason Black Paladin and Talisman aren't married in my game is 'cause a marriage ceremony would mean they were no longer living in sin.

 

(Oh, and Chantal? Umm, 'Shades of Black' never happened in my campaign timeline... )

 

Yes, I know, they're not *my* characters, but NPCs take life on me too. My imagination just won't shut up sometimes.

This happened to me with Starburst, Crusader, Shrinker, Icicle and all the other characters that first appeared back in 1st Edition Champions. All of a sudden, Shrinker was Starburst's ex, Icicle was Crusader's niece, and so on...
