Star Trek: Legacy - New game by Bethesda Softworks

Howdy y'all; this seemed most appropriate to the SH forum, although I may drop it into the NGD just so everyone sees it. Bethesda Softworks has acquired exclusive licensing rights from CBS regarding all Star Trek franchise material, except for the MMORPG, being developed separately and prior to the agreement being struck.

There's an interview on Star Trek that you can read here: http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/gaming/news/article/15318.html?page=0

I'm excited, but then, the reason I love Star Trek is for ship designs and naval combat. Go fig.

ST: Legacy looks like a simplified version of Star Fleet Command that came out a few years ago. If so, then it could be a fun game.

SFC was based on the game Star Fleet Battles which I've been playing for longer than I really want to think about.

Bethesda likes to take their time with games but they are generally quite good. Did anyone here play Daggerfall? That has to be one of the best PC RPG's of all time, though buggy.

Star Fleet Command was a very nice game. It offered many tactical options so you had to think as much as have quick reflexes. Good stuff. ;)

I played the original Arena: TES, and I own the full edition of Morrowind for my Xbox (hello framedrop!). Their material is often highly inspired but mediore in execution. Their original release of Morrowind on the Xbox was buggy as all get-out, as was the original TES. I think I found a Bug in the system at one point that was a simple RKA + DRAIN and I broke the game because it recognized something like 10x the RKA. Fwackoom, game over. Fun stuff.

I'm waiting with bated breath for Oblivion now, as it looks absolutely astounding. Doesn't mean it'll be GOOD, but it looks GREAT. And the ship models for ST: Legacy are jaw-dropping.

Morrowind had some problems (of course). One example was the Alchemy skill was based on INT. You brew a few INT buff potions and drink those. Now, you're potions are better so the next few are even better. Drink those. Repeat, etc. You could easily get into millions of INT lasting in-game weeks in 10 minutes or so. Once you've got that, you can brew +STR, +AGI, etc. It makes the game incredibly easy. With a million STR, when you hit someone with a sword one time, it breaks. Better learn how to use those fists. ;)

I would love to see a re-do (even just a re-release) of star fleet battles. I just don't think any other game will ever be able to take its place in the heart of trekkies.

Do you mean Star Fleet Command, the computer game, or SFB, the board game?

If SFC, it's out of production.

If you meant SFB, it's still in production. There's also been a release of a simplified version called Federation Commander. Go to http://www.starfleetgames.com and see a game still doing pretty well. Mostly because Paramount can't touch the license they have.
