Synergistic Meld

I would like to design a race of characters with the following ability: Any number of them can combine together into a single character for a limited period of time. The time it takes to combine is offset by the fact that the unified form is has more character points than the sum of the character points of the individual characters. Any ideas on how can I accomplish this? Thanks in advance!

Re: Synergistic Meld

Here are two methods that might work for you.

The first is...

  1. Think about the largest number of creatures that are likely to meld together in your game.
  2. Create a character sheet for that melded Alpha creature.
  3. Give the Alpha Duplication with the number of duplicates set to the number of creatures needed to make Alpha.
  4. Define some of the Alpha's Powers, Characteristics and what-have-you as "Not while composed of less than [Alpha # of creatures - 1] creatures."
  5. Define some of the Alpha's Powers, Characteristics and what-have-you as "Not while composed of less than [Alpha # of creatures - 2] creatures."
  6. Continue until you are down to the last "base" creature, OR... Smack yourself in the head and say "Oy! This is a lot of work!"

If you fall into the "Oy! This is a lot of work!" camp, then you probably want to just...

  1. Think about what Powers, Characteristics, etc you want to imcrease when the creatures meld.
  2. Once you have decided that, ignore all this business about writing up the Alpha and just rule that: All creatures function as duplicates of some Alpha creature. They can combine just as though they had the Duplication Power. When they do so, the resulting meld has these extra Powers, Characteristics, etc...

Season with time limits to taste.

Re: Synergistic Meld

More character points than the sum of the individuals? An entire race?

Blimey. Assuming an average joe has 1 CP that is 6 billion points (assuming an Earth sized and populated planet) if they all combine (of course if the average joe has 0 character points then the combined meld might just have 1 cp :))

Re: Synergistic Meld

When I read this I thought of this thread for last year Advice needed: Multi->One Character. Most of the talk was a duplication to the lesser forms from the graeter. With a whole race of beings it could be intresting (But that is now what Triplicate Girl of LSH is now, she is the last surviver of a disaeter, an re-populated her world with duplicates of herself, she is now has only 'two' duplactes left. what happens if she recombinds all of her duplicates)

Yeah, but how long would it take to get 6 billion people together?

What the palindromedary wants to know is: If there's a power called Duplication that allows one to become two or more, is there a power of Unification that allows your character to join one or more other characters and become one with them?
