Flight Limitation...

How would you rate Flight, only to duplicate Running and Swimming...?

A character has the ability to manipulate water, including the ability to create it out of seemingly nothing via a teleportation SFX... It gives him tremendous swimming ability, but since he can create water where he needs it, he's not really limited to oceans, lakes, and rivers, etcetera... Can't do it as a Multipower because it's part of an Elemental Control...

Any other suggestions, as well...?

Re: Flight Limitation...

nm, I misread the original post, sounds like the advantage David mentions covers what you're looking for. Only thing that confuses me is that you mentioned just to duplicate Running/Swimming. Are you looking for a height limitation? There's always the -1/4 On Surface Only but that gets confusing with the Swimming since you'd want him to be able to go under the surface. If so, I'd just add a -0 No Higher Than X" Above Surface/Ground limitation (-0 since it's actually less restrictive than On Surface Only). This way he can do something like rise up on a water spout a few inches but couldn't go flying off to 30,000ft.

Re: Flight Limitation...

Well, it covers underwater, but yeah, this character wouldn't be zooming through the stratosphere...

I *could* just buy Swimming for him in the Elemental Control, but then technically he'd be stuck where there's water... Except since he can produce water at will, that isn't really a limitation...

The main thing he can't do is gain altitude unless he has a huge wave under him... In other words, if he wants to go up, he has to flood the area... Not too bad at sea, but in the middle of town, well, you know how police are...

Re: Flight Limitation...

by produce water, do you mean he can fill a room, or can he make a tube of water to fly in (like iceman's ramp thing).

If he can only make normal liquid fill the space provided kind a water that could be a limitation. He could not make enough water to fly down the street convently (and the flood damage!)

If he can fly by making a tube of water to travle in down the street, then you give it 'physical manifestation' because someone could disrupt his water tube with an attack or such and send the tube and him falling.

Re: Flight Limitation...

"Now Super Fish, fly up to my Doom Blimp and face me! What you can't without covering the world in 1000 feet of water? Oh, well bad for you! Ha Ha Ha!!"

Yes it would be a limitation

However, why don't you just buy some swiming? Flight through water is called swiming. Just like a zero endurence, persistant forcefield is called Armor.

Re: Flight Limitation...

That would be regular Flight which he doesn't want, he seems to be looking for a cheap and effective way to get a large amount of running and swimming without having to buy two powers. At the most he should take Usable Underwater (+1/4) and Only in Contact With a Surface (-1/4) and Surface Must Be Water (+0).

Its a +0 because he can create water.

Re: Flight Limitation...

Except Flight Only on a Surface lets you run up the side of a building, which he can't do... It also means you can only skim the water's surface, but he isn't limited that way...

For the earlier question, he has a 5d6 Major Transform to create the water... Look at the Unliving column on the Object Body table to see how much water that might be... His control of water is by using his SFX teleport to swap water molecules that are moving in directions he doesn't want out for water molecules that are moving in directions he does want... It can make water flow to where he wants it, but it won't let him suspend water in midair... He could create ice by teleporting in freezing cold water molecules, but he wouldn't be able to fly through ice as it's a solid...

I'm mainly trying to avoid the cheese factor of only buying swimming, yet saying he can swim on land since he can create water... He'd be able to do it, so I'd prefer to figure out a way to pay points for it...

Maybe this: Flight, Useable Underwater (+1/4), Only to mimic Running and Swimming (-1/4)...

The only alternative I can see is to pull the movement out of his Elemental Control, and do the Running and Swimming as two slots of a smaller Multipower...

Re: Flight Limitation...

Okay, that's it...

I'm pulling the ability out of the Elemental Control, and putting it into a two-slot Multipower...

I'd post the character, so everyone can see what he looks like, but the Hero Boards Templates either don't seem to work with HDv3, or the output isn't compatible with these boards any longer...

Background/History: Born in California, this dude loved Surfing and the Ocean. Who had time to learn to read when you could catch a wave? His life was great, until his parents moved to New York City to move up in their jobs, and took him with them. His only friend is this really smart, (like genius!) kid, who he got grouped with in Science class. His friend is actually responsible for helping him figure out how his powers work, and what he could do with them, although his friend thinks it was all hypothetical contemplation.

Personality/Motivation: His ambition is simply to accumulate enough money to move back to California, and buy himself a beachhouse.

Quote: "I just want the money, man."

Powers/Tactics: He picks a bank. When no one is there, he shorts out the alarm system, breaks in, cuts through the door of the vault, grabs valuable and highly portable items, and beats it out of there before the police show up.

Campaign Use: Small scale Villain. Might be recruited by a Mastermind later.

Appearance: Long hair, skinny frame. Dresses in a dark blue wetsuit, with black boots and a white body vest. Talks like a California Surfer Dude.
