Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

I am building a character for a new player in the Weekend Warriors campaign. The player is not too familiar with the system so I have his basic specifications so that I can do an initial build to save time. I having trouble thinking of a good name so I thought I’d see what suggestions the community has.

I need a name for a vigilante character in a low-powered Heroic game. The character uses a katana but also has a .357 magnum revolver (Colt Python). I may also give him some shuriken. I think that I will make the character the son of a Japanese father and an American mother (mixed blood). The character has lived in America all his life and is in his late twenties. In his normal identity he is a mundane government accountant/bureaucrat type (this will give him useful skills that the other Weekend Warriors don’t have). The list of posible names I compile will be suggestions for the player.

The other members of the team include:

Choir Boy: A former mafia hit man who got religion (sort of) and became a vigilante in order to repay his debt to society.

Crucible: A former HC cop fighting crime in ways the establishment can’t.

Demolition Man: A vigilante known for his use of explosives and enormous guns.

Sweeper: A martial artist who uses a three-section staff.

Re: Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

If he was native Japanese... "The Salary Man" would work... especially if he was something of a merc. Then it would refer to his common, faceless cover job... as well as his paying job.

You didn't write anything about his motiviations as to why he is a vigilante or action guy in general... so nothing to work with there.

From his choice of weapons how about "Snake Cutter?"

If he didn't use a gun you could call him "Bushido" or "Samurai"

I can think of lots of generic names, but without a sense of who the guy is and why he does what he does, no cool code names jump to mind.

Re: Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

More details on the character would be a big help.
And I wish I had more at this point but... The character is for a new player who will join us on Saturday. Since he's basically a novice at Hero I am building his character for him knowing only that he wants "a martial artist who uses a sword and maybe a .357 magnum." I have been building the character off and on all day as time permits. Further details that I can give are:

The character is built with 50 points, plus 50 points of disadvantages.

He is primarily a martial artist. It is tough to build a martial artist with only 100 points. He knows some Karate and Kenjutsu. He has a very old, katana passed down through the generations which is of superb quality (I gave it two points of piercing). The character is 6' tall and strong with an 18 STR. He is a well-off (3 points of wealth) accountant. He does a lot of forensic accounting, he is an audit specialist. He knows the head comptroller of the HCPD (possible contact).

I have thoughts that one of his ancestors was a member of the Shinsengumi and that the vigilante is styling himself as a modern decentant of that group. He fights crime in the lawlessness of Hudson City in much the same way that the Shinsengumi kept order in pre-Miji Kyoto. Prehaps this a sort of romantic fantasy of the character. The character has 9" of running and a passing strike maneuver. Yet he is enough of a realist that he carries a Colt Python just in case.

He is hunted by the Yakuza so he must have run afoul of them in the past. He did something that hacked them off enough that they are still hunting him. I have also thought of giving him a Psych Lm. Protective of Children so sometime in his past a child he knew or was related to met a tragic fate that he feels he could have prevented.

I know it is sketchy but I want our new player to fill in the gaps. Of course he may like none of these ideas and rewrite the whole background. But for now this is what I am working with. BTW the shuriken are out, I just didn't have enough points. He does have a ninja-like fighting suit made from ballistic cloth so it gives him some resistant defense. He also has some flash and smoke pellets. In a way he is pretty ninja-like.

When the player comes over on Saturday evening for our game I am going to call up this thread and show him the proposed names to see if any strike his fancy. Thanks one and all.

Re: Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

Hmm. As already noted, without knowing more of what will make him tick, it's tough to come up with something really compelling.

One of the NPCs in my Dark Champions campaign that uses a katana goes by the street name of "Steele", which might work for this character.

If it's not seen as too hokey, you can even try something like "Magnum Steel(e)".

If he wants to punch up the ninja aspect, he can try something like "Shadow Steel" or "Darksteel".

It may be too subtle, but if he wants a quiet nod to his Japanese heritage, he could simply go by the name "Ken", which of course is the more general Japanese word for "sword".

Re: Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

Yeah, I actually kind of like Ken as well... but its also a regular name, which is like having a hero named Bob. :P

Some suggestions, with similar protests, but trying to compensate:

1. Edge, denoting sharpness, a deadly nature, and the blade.

2. Equity, denoting the balance of gun and sword and his accounting. :D

3. Bushido, somewhat generic but is the art focusing on weapons.

Ack, I'm tapped... too late for much thinking.

Re: Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

For my money (pun intended), The Actuary would be a good name for an accountant vigilante, as he takes account of other's crimes and uses his skills to balance the books for the side of Justice.

A few others could be Cruncher, as in number cruncher, or Pusher, as in paper/pencil pusher.

Ohhh...I like "Equity". Very nice.

Another idea: "The Comptroller". Just sounds powerful to me, even though it's just a glorified name for the head bean counter. ;)

And yet another accounting inspired name: "The Reckoning."

Re: Help name the newest Weekend Warrior

Here is the list of offered names, so far, in alphabetical order:

Bushido

Chop

Crat

Cruncher

Darksteel

Edge

Equity

Gaijin

G-Man

Ken

Magistrate

Magnum Steel

Nemesis

New Guy

Paperwork

Peacemaker

Pusher

Red Tape

Ronin

Samurai

Shadow Steel

Snake

Snake Cutter

Steele

Tank Boy

The Actuary

The Comptoller

The Reckoning

The Salary Man

I have thought about something like Sword of Justice, Justice Sword, or something like that. How would that be said in Japanese? I am guessing something like Ken Seidai.

BTW thanks to everyone who has offered a suggestion (I count 10 of you). I'll get around to repping all of you, I got the first five tonight.

EDIT: The character ended up being named Ken Seidai, the suggestion of Ken is really what started this and I imagine that the character will soon be know simply as Ken for short. Thats to all for their suggestions and you have all been repped.
