proditor
I have no idea if this should really be in Star Hero, but it is out there enough to be pulp in feel.
Lemurion
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! That one should have been in Star Hero. This one is Pulp: I present the Surcouf-- twin 8" guns and a plane in the hangar behind the turret.

The Lorelei....now that's pulp. http://wgordon.web.wesleyan.edu/kamikaze/films/japanese/lorelei/index.htm (Basically the Sucouf with some modifications, and in Japanese service). EDIT: I actually had a vehicle sheet for the Surcouf n here n the CHmpaions forum (It was pre Pulp), and more pictures can be found of that beauty on my vehicle picture webpage, here: http://mywebpages.comcast.net/champsstuff

I wish I could draw well enough to do one justice. I'd go for something more Art Deco with 30's style streamlining and then hidden rivets. I'd go for something more Art Deco with 30's style streamlining and then hidden rivets. Oh absolutely. There was the battlesub from....crud...what was the anime again? Not the one with tiny twin 5" turrets (Or at least, they look like twinned 5's.) but a full suite of Yamato style cannons and a hyped up floatplane that launches like a torpedo. Darn...I'll try and remember which one it was and post something. This was more of a "Make a change or two and go to the races" type of thing. Then again, so was the anime ship I just mentioned. The American battlesub in that anime looked more like pulpy 40's tech. Man, this is gonna drive me nuts now... EDIT: Super Atragon! That's what it was. Barton
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! This is based on the idea of submersible battle cruisers. The idea was the "ship" would hide underwater, surface to do battle (typically against merchant ships) then dive, and disappear. Never really caught on, the torepedo is just too effective, and a sub on the surface is almost a sitting duck (little armor). So fleet subs appeared, larger subs than in WW1, fast on the surface, with very long range. US subs, Japanese, and the German U-boats to a great extent followed this idea. Lemurion
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! Then of course there were the British K and M class submarines. The K's were very fast steam-driven boats, while the M Class mounted twelve-inch guns for anti-shipping work. (Classed as submarine monitors). There's a lot of great technology in the 30's. Vondy
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! It looks almost identical to the robotech submersible naval cruisers - they also had a submersible carrier.

Ghost Archer
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! I think we need some seaplane pirates to go with the battlesub. Anybody else seen Porco Rosso?
mattingly
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! Here's the Atlantean supersub built for the Nazis, from our book The Fires Of War. Here's how the sub looks from the outside. And here's the left side of the top deck. With a closeup fo detail.

Lemurion
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! I think you may have just made my credit card mad at me. I'm running a Hudson City 1938 Pulp Supers game and this looks like it fits the genre EXACTLY. Bad people-- Make Lemurion spend money

Lemurion
Re: Battleship? Sub? Naw....BATTLESUB!!! I took the time to give it a quick read through and it will be very useful once I get up to about 1940 in the game. Among other things I'm running a lot of 4 SPD characters so they fit my game that way as well. I'll probably happily take them and modify them a little then dump them in. Thanks it's a very good sourcebook, and very close to the kind of thing I'm doing. There's a lot of fun in pre-war Supers.
