It's a pointless, make-you-feel-good gesture that becomes a huge pain in the ass whenever you don't capitalize it on a form, because it's apparently as big an error as putting your rank down as Major General when you're a PFC. There's a difference between "Hi Mom" and "I just said hi to my mom". Similarly, there's a difference between "Good job, Soldier" and "saving soldiers lives". At least in English.
