Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way David Arcane, Ph.D. (in parapsychology) lets the superhero team use his home as a base while he and his familiar, Isis, a mackerel tabby, travel the multiverse. The doctor's quarters are crammed to the top with unusual objects.
Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way In the 1920s, a house at Atwood and Dawson was converted into the Carson Funeral Home. The public stable beside it was torn down and made into a parking lot and garage. The Carson family lives above the place and provides excellent service. Mr and Mrs. Carson are warm and caring people. Mr. Carson is an expert on funeral customs and ceremonies the world over while Mrs. Carson can converse fluently in over 30 languages. Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way Among the bars on the commercial side of Witch Way is Danny's, a great place for jazz. While it's popular for the older crowd, the young generation doesn't usually go there because the under-21 crowd that likes to drink isn't welcome there. Once Danny had a couple of drunken underage football players hauled off to jail after they assaulted him after he refused them service. Although there's no house band, there's always music from 9 pm to 2 am. Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday are open mike nights and the Jazz Angels, occasionally joined by Danny, on guitar, play beautiful music the rest of the time. JmOz
Re: Witch Way Ever heard of the DC Comic Character Barter? Nerdnumber1
Re: Witch Way Inteligent cat familiar: "You want to do WHAT!!!" (Some cats don't share the oppinions of the late Price is Right host.) Never have the most powerful mage in the area be a steriotypical old guy with 3ft+ beard in robes. It's not as memorable as an (aparently) teen aged girl or other non-steriotypical look. If you have the most powerful non-evil mage employed, make their shop be the only non-magical one on the block. Drhoz
Re: Witch Way If Vitus wasn't so cranky about Earth in general, he might show up there occasionally. Much more believable would be him turning up to give advice to his three students, Padraig, Bill (short for Wilhemina ) and the other one. Once they graduate and want to start a business, anyway. Vitus's history of magical artifice would probably be valuable, even if his tastes run towards the Elephant Prod, or latest project The Knuckleduster of Annihilation. Ian Mackinder
Re: Witch Way Maybe the place needs a 'Mrs Kravitz' somewhere, like 'Bewitched'. The nosy neighbour who kept seeing weird things but, by the time she can get somebody else to investigate (her husband, the police, etc.), it is all normal again. Inevitably leading to certain speculation about her medication and drinking habits. **** An alternative might be to have a non-magical ultra-paranoid conspiracy theorist type living on that road. Somebody who can provide entertainment by snooping where / when he really shouldn't and, occasionally, be useful to have around (esoteric knowledge, deductive / observational skills, etc.). And, when it all suddenly hits the fan (Horrseman of the Apocalypse rampaging down the road, etc.), this will probably be the guy who unexpectedly produces a Minigun from his garden shed and helps the PCs out. **** I also highly recommend viewing that Tom Hanks movie, 'The Burbs'. Several great ideas for neighbourhood personalities - no Witchy / supernatural types, but only because they are weird enough WITHOUT that particular brand of weirdness. Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way I'm considering a redo of this thread with Witch Way being based on Murray Avenue between Forbes Avenue and its northern end, Wilkins Avenue. The cross streets, from south to north, are Marlborough Road (east side only), Alyesboro Avenue, Ferree Street (three quarters of a block, on the east side), Northumberland Street, Woodmont Street (west side only), and Solway Street. It is a residential/retail area with some stores on the first floor of buildings and residences above. A church is on the northwest corner of Forbes and Murray. The Squirrel Hill branch of Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh is on the northeast corner of Forbes and Murray, above a bank. The Jewish Community Center is on the southwest corner of Forbes and Murray. The Tree of Life Congregation is a block away, on the southwest corner of Wilkins and Shady.
DusterBoy
Re: Witch Way Mark, if you're looking for suggestions, how about this one . . . At one end of the street, make if the one which is the least populated and/or visited, there's a small house. Inside - isn't much. There's a few odds and ends, just about enough to get by - it is in fact, a life stripped down to the core. The person who lives there is an elderly woman, about five and half feet tall, but seems taller because of both her ramrod straight posture and the sheer force of her personality. Her hair is iron grey - almost white - and worn in a bun tight enough to crack rocks. She has blue eyes and looks right at you - through you almost. No-one ever tries to lie to or cheat her, since she'll know in a heartbeat. She has a great knowledge of practical psychology (for some reason she calls it "headology"), herbal medicines - and a great deal of real occult power - combined with a will of steel and a unbreakable faith that she's always right (she always is). She's not liked, but she is respected. She's the person people send for when things get really bad - both medically and magically. They call her Granny - even though she's never been married, and has never had children. She doesn't really even like children. Eric, Omnirex - about German Jews regarding Yiddish as a low-born pidgin. Is this them just being snobby, or is it something else?
