Mark Rand
Witch Way is an affectionate name for a street in the campaign city that has a lot of people interested in the occult on it. Some are witches, some sell occult books or potion materials while others sell strange relics. The superhero team's base, which is based on the Mobius, from the 4E book Mystic Masters, is on this street, too. Another resident is Katrina, who takes in cats and trains them to be familiars. Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way Katrina, who is careful about the health of her charges, makes sure the cats have all their shots. Also, at her vet's recommendation, all the cats are fixed. The cats are also socialized and taught to use a toilet instead of a litter box. Not all the cats are black. When Katrina delivers a feline familiar, the hero is also given a cat carrier, a week's supply of cat food, a scratching post, the cat's dish and toys, her phone number, and her vet's business card. If anyone wants to add to the street's population, feel free to do so.

hfergus
Re: Witch Way I can just see Olorin, my "mad mage" (not mad, just called that effectionatly) opening up a storefront "Wizard for hire". Of course it would be bigger on the inside than the outside and seemingly unoccupied. (he checks you out first before he shows himself.) It would be full of active, seething, moving chaos. Some is real, some is illusion. Olorin likes to mess with peoples minds, but only by boggling them. He lives elswhere and would still mainly hero, but would use this as money income and hooks into hero stuff. Cats would not like this store, but he would not hurt them. (He'd not a cat hater, he just wants no pets in the room. ...Especially since any kitten born here may be born, well, ....weird.)
Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way i think willow rosenberg or the halliwell sisters might like to live there Got to agree with you there. Of course, in the Bay City campaign, the Halliwell sisters do live on Witch Way. Before I forget, in Bay City, because of her devotion to duty, the Elders changed Kit, the Charmed Ones' familiar, into Katrina. She has since given her friends four familiars. Wyatt's, Misty, a mackerel tabby, sleeps with him in his crib.

Karmakaze
Re: Witch Way In the last game where I played a modern magic user, we had the "Bar Bar Bar". It was so named because there was no actual sign with a name on it, just one of those blinking neon signs that says "Bar" (also the ubiquitous Budweiser and other brand signs, of course.) You either had to know it was there or wander in randomly, and random passers-by tended to get run off my the patrons if they weren't part of the magic community. It worked fairly well for neutral meetings and general networking.

Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way I'm currently thinking of Witch Way as being like some streets here in Pittsburgh. Up by the main street they're all commercial. Beyond the first block, they're mixed residential and small business. Aaron, an occult book seller, is a German Jew. He peppers his speech with Yiddish. He is also careful not to sell dangerous books to the uninformed. The potion material component salesman is also an herbalist. Down the street are a mother and daughter gypsies who live above a divided storefront. The mother is a fortune teller. Like the DC Comics character Madame Xanadu she doesn't charge for her services. Her daughter is a family practitioner who doesn't mind using non-traditional healing methods.
Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way In the campaign city, there are two area coffee shops. One is Beth's Coffee Shop, a chain of diner-style restaurants. The other is The Coffee Bar, a Starbucks-style chain. I'm basing Witch Way on Pittsburgh's Atwood Street, which runs from Fifth Avenue to Dawson Street. Between them, it crosses Forbes Avenue, Sennott Street, Bates Street, and Cable Place. The part between Fifth and Sennott has commercial establishments and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center buildings. The rest of the way, it's residential and retail. Along Witch Way, a Beth's Coffee Shop, a Coffee Bar, Aaron's Occult Book Store, and The Cat's Eye bar among the places between Forbes and Sennott. The owner/barkeeper of the Cat's Eye always knows when he's presented with a false ID. These are always confiscated and turned over to the police. Along the street are several houses that have been converted into houses of worship, each of which has a congregation of no more than 100. Among them are a New Age temple, a Conservative Jewish synagogue, and a Roman Catholic church.

Most are common, some a little rare. Nothing the "knowlessmen" can do harm with. If Adam knows you, given enuf warning, he'll get anything you want (if its a plant). You use it for evil tho you got problems. Cause Adam is a big man, who knows how to fight material plane and psychic. And he's got friends. Lots of friends. Some are not nice. Karmakaze
Re: Witch Way Carol's Crystals - Carol's is over by the traditionally commercial end of the street. It's filled with sachets of sage, cheap binned crystals, books with titles like "30 Simple Love Spells" and other wannabe nonsense. She makes most of her money off of suburban kids who've watched a few episodes of Charmed and have decided to embrace their inner spellcaster. Carol's is a good place to direct silly newbies because they'll walk away thinking they've been browsing through the real stuff, but there's nothing dangerous out on the shelves. Carol peppers her stock with just enough real magic supplies or tchotchkes miscategorized or mispriced to make most real members of the community suspect she's a wannabe herself. She does run a quality import business in spellcasting supplies out of a back room, usually special orders. Carol actually is a sorceress, who specialized in designing and enchanting magical objects; some of her low level luck charms find their way out into her regular stock. She plays the part of a fake partially so she can divert the tourists away from the sort of resident who'd take advantage of them and partially because she doesn't want to be bothered by people who'd try to talk her into crafting some of the more dangerous types of tools. Mark Rand
Re: Witch Way I have a couple of corrections on the streets that intersect Atwood Street (aka Witch Way). Euler Way is an alley running between Forbes and Fifth Avenues. It connects to Atwood, but doesn't cross it. Sennott Street doesn't cross Atwood. It just connects to it. Louisa Street connects to Atwood further toward Bates on the opposite side. Atwood is a one way street, running toward Fifth Avenue. I'm planning some revisions to the worship centers, which are between Sennott and Louisa. I suspect that most of the worshipers are from the nearby university and medical center.
