Ragnarok
Hello. I'm thinking about building a sniper character. I'm very new to Dark Champions, so I was just wondering what things a sniper would want. Ghillie suit. Any idea what the Stealth bonus to this would be? Is there a standard, or would it be a house rule? Probably some PSLs for Range Mods Snipers have special hand-to-hand training, if I recall correctly Buying more points for Perception rolls? Maybe an Analyze skill of some sort? What else am I missing? Thanks
Sociotard
Re: Sniper A good stealth suit gives a +1 to +4 bonus to stealth and concealment (self only). Many sniper characters buy variants of the Deadly Blow talent. In essence, buy a RKA with focus (weapons of opportunity) and limitation (only high power rifles). When your character shoots people, he'll be able to add on however many d6s of damage you bought. The Dark Champions has a number of package deals appropriate for snipers. The question is, which one? What kind of sniper is your character? An LAPD sniper is very different from a USMC sniper.
Manic Typist
Re: Sniper A sniper character? Hm, news to me, Rag... Based on what I already know, and what you´ve said in this post, I´m going to raise the idea that you´re specifically looking for a formally trained (i.e. special forces/commando type) sniper type. I´d say a ghillie suit could range up to +4 to Stealth (higher depending on the game tone/balance of course), depending on the quality of the suit, and the environment was intended for. Definitely PSLs for Range Mods. Hand to hand training, standard soldier/special forces stuff. Perception rolls- not a bad idea, but not essential either. Depends on how you want to play the sniper. Analyze- now that could be very interesting. Analyze what? Enemy troop movements, Target behavior, enemy weaknesses? Hm... I need to think. There´s a lot of other soldier type stuff, obviously (like Tactics) that´s pretty standard package-wise.

Ragnarok
Re: Sniper Manic, I'm just basically tossing about ideas for what my character would specialize in. He would have the specific abilities we were talking about, I'm just trying to figure out which "normal" aspect he would be focused toward. My character would be a member of the S.A.S. He would have all the basic training and knowledge of the S.A.S. regardless, but I'm trying to decide if he should be the guy with the gas mask and the suppressed MP5 who blows down the door and goes in hard and fast, or if he should be the guy in the ghillie suit who blows a fist-sized hole in your face from 300 yards away. I want him to be stealthy and quick, but I'm having trouble deciding between the killhouse guy or the sniper guy. If I have enough points to work with, I want to be able to do both. This is why I posted this question, to see how many points of skills an S.A.S. sniper might have, and then make my final decision then. Regardless, I want this guy to be stealthy, efficient, and deadly. Get in, achieve the objective, and get out before they knew what hit them. Almost ninja-esque. What do you guys suggest? Manic Typist
Re: Sniper You´re going to additionally want pluses vs. Hit Locations and OCV levels with either a specific type of rifle or sniper rifles generally.
shadowcat1313
Re: Sniper also a lot of times snipers operate in 2 man teams, with a shooter and a spotter heres an odd idea, if your going for super stealth etc. why not consider a crossbow instead of a high powered rifle? especially if your wanting something more like a ninja. granted a crossbow is slow firing, but there are ways around that to an extent. Ragnarok
Re: Sniper Does anyone have a Dark Champions handy? If so could you post the package deal for a SpecOps sniper (or general purpose SpecOps soldier) if it's in there? Thanks.
Sociotard
Re: Sniper I think Steve might get annoyed if I did that. I can tell you it's on page 53 of DC and costs 92 points.
