half-elves in Fantasy Hero

I was wondering about half-elves. They are not in Fantasy Hero. Has anyone developed a write up for half-elves? I'd like to see how they did it to get a good idea of where to begin.

Start by writing up an Elf.

 

Edit: I mean, until you define what an Elf is in the campaign world, you can't begin to know what's appropriate for half an Elf.

I assume you mean a Human-Elf hybrid?

 

I'd say in almost all cases, Longevity and some kind of enhanced Senses. Beyond that, unless I know what traits the Elves have, I can't say.

 

It can even be that each individual Half Elf gets to pick and choose which traits to inherit from each parent. That is, the player does, the character obviously didn't get a choice.

Fantasy Hero p44 discusses the idea of Half-Breeds, suggesting that the GM and Player come up with some mixed attributes, and even putting forth the idea that no two are exactly alike.

 

Turakian Age p38 gives an example of what a Half Elf might look like in a High Fantasy Setting.

I'm with Lucius and g-a on this one.

 

Make a list of Elven traits. Pick a certain number, say 2 or 3.

 

A cool bit of flavor might be an inherited weakness from one of the races. For example, if elves in your game are susceptible to a certain material, then you could have your half elf have a similar reaction, albeit not as strong.

 

Or you could create sort of genetic condition that occurs with the union of human and elf. Not crippling, but enough to perhaps get you some points back, and really add to the campaign flavor.

Being a liminal being - something that stands on a threshold - the Half-Elf may be more magically powerful than either forebear.

Or you could go Tolkein - half-Elves choose to either be mortal and human (like Arwen), or to be immortal and elven (like Elrond).

Or they could have powers or traits belonging to neither parent - just as a mule is significantly different from either an ass or a horse.
