This threat is only mildly threatening, compared to others I have mentioned.

T Pyxidis might become a type Ia supernova, the most destructive of them all.

But: it probably will not explode with that force for a minimum of ten thousand years, and it is about 3,000 light years away. It is at the extreme limit of range. It may affect the ozone layer, but it is not going to burn Earth to a blackened cinder.

I think so, but then you're talking about a really BIG hole in the universe if you don't want the Die damage to degrade to much. That though opens up some possible campaign issues to be dealt with though. Such as what has happened in oh, Marvel's War of Kings, Chalkers Well World, and a few other "You blew a freaking Hole in the Universe and now it's deflating!" stories.....

Meh, mess with his SFX, that neutrinos mess with whatever mechanism he's using. There's about a factor of 100 more energy in the neutrinos than in the photons, so if he's worried about photons at all, there's plenty of energy available to mess with anything. Tapping it is an issue in the real world, but if you just say that the tachyon phase space is overfilled by the particles scattered by the neutrino pulse so he can't make the jump without losing temporal-physical waveform integrity, it'll hose his XDM just fine ... and your rubber physics will trump his.

(Clearly, I have a dim view of power gamers.)

Heh, unfortunately, my Loaf of Gamer Kung Fu being so much more then His, is what has Generated this monstrosity of a power gamer in the first place. It's a very, Victor and the Monster situation unfortunately.

~Rex......Sometimes....Players feel they need to be able to BEAT the GM for some reason.

Had more then a few of those myself, heh. They can be interesting especially when the rest of the party turns on the guy for being to much of a potential threat, because if he DOES get into a fight with someone his "skill of power gaming", the radioactive wasteland that remains of the battlefield afterwards, doesn't mesh well with the thinking of the less PG'ed players.

"It looks like Sion used the wrong numbers for the gamma ray emission for a Type Ia event, instead using the emission from a gamma-ray burst… a far, far,
far
more energetic event, and dangerous from several thousand light years away."

Yeah, but that's still coming from something really far away, going towards something that's moving as well, and there should be a whole lot of other stuff in the way as well. Otherwise every time these things go boom, there would be a lot of nothing up there. Of course, for all we know, Everything already went Boom, and there really IS nothing up there anymore.
