FreeDice
So, the rules state that characters normally shouldn't buy Ranged STR, they should buy Telekinesis. However, Telekinesis is costed out as as STR with a +1/2 Advantage, and with the separation of primary and figured characteristics, Ranged STR isn't necessarily broken. While I would have a character who wants his/her STR Ranged all the time buy Telekinesis, I'm wondering if, a character with a Variable Advantage STR (special effect defined as magically infused fists) should be allowed to put Ranged on his/her STR. Hyper-Man
Re: Ranged STR in 6E I'd suggest looking at these 2 recent threads: Rules Question: HA, Ranged Ranged HA - What is so bad about it
Lucius
Re: Ranged STR in 6E There are a couple of differences between Telekinesis and STR besides the Range. One is the question of whether there is an action/reaction connection to the character's body. The simplest way to put it is, if a character grabs say a flying dragon or an airliner and fails to stop it, is the character going to be “dragged along?” Conversely, is it possible to deliberately “hitch a ride” by grabbing something in motion? There is also the fact that Telekinesis is supposed to have a kind of limited Indirect. Now, what are you going to do if someone with Ranged STR says “I lift my body off the ground by pushing against the ground!” It's hard to justify forbidding that if you have established that there is, indeed, an action/reaction connection to the body. Of course, in my opinion it doesn't make much sense if you establish the opposite and don't let Telekinesis work on the body either; what makes the body so special and different from any other object in the environment? I'd like to think that eventually (next edition) we'll eliminate Telekinesis and have the option of Range on STR, but at higher than normal cost of the Advantage because it will include the ability to move the character's body (albeit probably by “throwing” it, without the level of control that Flight entails) and note that when bought you must decide if it has the action/reaction effect or not (or maybe have a bigger Advantage if you can choose it when it's convenient.) Ockham's Spoon
Re: Ranged STR in 6E If you want Ranged Strength without TK (because you can hitch a ride on a passing vehicle or something) you might consider Stretching, which is considerably cheaper in 6e than it was in 5e. You can buy it so that is does or doesn't (depending on sfx) cross the intervening space.
