gewing
Re: Pulp THIS! Whats the story behind the image? brown water/riverine patrol gun boats. The Soviets iirc built some using tank turrets. I should be able to pick out the design of the turret, but, sorry. maybe an early T-34? looks like it might possibly have a couple light on the rear deck. A couple of machine guns for air defense primarily. These are not intended for naval battles. They would patrol large lakes, rivers, etc, looking for infiltrators, smugglers, scouts, etc. I figure a 76mm gun with HE and AP rounds, good general purpose gun. Now as to why the Female Crew? Female mail Courier dressed fairly scantily? I presume it is a Japanese drawing.
Pizza Man
Re: Pulp THIS! Whats the story behind the image? I was thinking story wise. Setting: the Philippines. The war's been over for a year. The boat has been purchased by adventurers, looking for a lost city on one of the smaller islands. They've been running into Nazi subs/patrol boats operating from a hidden base. Thats more of what I've been looking for.
Ian Mackinder
Re: Pulp THIS! Whats the story behind the image? Hmmm. In no special order. The clothing includes some uniform components, all of which are dark grey (German?). The (dark grey) forage cap worn by the bike rider looks a lot like ww2 German styles I've seen. Other nations used them as well, but not necessarily in that colour.. 'Mail' (back of the bike) is the same in English and German. The small vessel is well-armed but NOT made for rough waters or high speed. Estuarine or riverine craft, arguably. Its tank turret looks a heckuva lot like a Panzer III - also looks like there could be a 'Kills' tally on the side. The big warship in the background looks very similar to (but not exactly the same as) the Kreigsmarine's major warships of ww2. Specifically the 'Admiral Hipper' class Heavy Cruisers or 'Bismarck' class Battleships. Given the amount of clothing worn, not a cold environment. But it could just be a very warm summer wherever they are. No swastikas though. Nazis put 'em EVERYWHERE, but not a one to be seen anywhere in this pic. Ohhh-kay. Alternate history is my guess. Main divergance in ww1 - Germany retained (or regained) a few of its Pacific possessions at war's end. If there was Nazism, it never gained the hold that it did in "our" history. There is a war underway (with who? Dunno - Russia, maybe?), and Germany has taken sufficient losses that it now has a lot of females serving in "second-line" and support units of the military. This pic was taken at one of Germany's Pacific bases, far from the war as such, but not far enough probably.
The Oz
Re: Pulp THIS! Whats the story behind the image? The turret is an early German MkIV, with the short 75mm gun for infantry support (just the thing for riverine warfare, by the way). The turret seems to be sitting on a tank chassis, but not anything I recognize. The ship in the background looks a little like a German heavy cruiser: single funnel, two turrets forward. But the after superstructure seems to be missing, and we can't see any aft turrets. Ian is right; these ain't Nazis, since there's no swastikas in sight. No Iron Crosses either, on people or vehicles. Most likely some AH where we have Germans but no Nazis. Terrain looks vaguely like Scandanavia in summertime. Lucius
Re: Pulp THIS! Whats the story behind the image? Reminds me of Draco Montfalcon from the series of novels... I was probably thinking more of the knightly character from The Black Chalice, who in an early scene when several other returned crusaders are discussing the vows they made in Jerusalem after taking and sacking it, confesses that he, too made a vow: "I swore that never again would I let someone talk me into doing violence and slaughter in the name of God." I believe I've already done a character based on the original Charlie Daniels song. Lucius Alexander The palindromedary suggests a couple of ideas from Draco might be useful
