Re: what is nod damage?

Hi,

can't seem to find what is NND damage f.x. for Force blade 3d6 NND and does it allow increase damage due to str?

Sounds like you're looking at something written up in Star Hero or some other product and trying to understand how it works in play.

If you're looking it up in the rules, in 5th edition it's an Advantage, No Normal Defense. In 6th edition it's an Advantage, Attack Vs Alternate Defense.

Whether or not you can add STR depends on the actual Power. How much STR to add can get tricky too, but that's the case with any Advantaged attack. If you ask, I'm sure someone can elaborate on that.

Basically, you're looking at an attack that rolls damage, and then does not apply defenses. Someone can be wearing armor giving +30 Resistant PD and ED it just doesn't count at all, they still take all the damage.

UNLESS the target has the kind of defense that applies, in which case, they take NO damage. So if the defense listed is "Force Fields" and the target has any Force Field at all, even one with +1 PD, it stops the attack completely.

Look for another Advantage in the write up: "Does Body." If it's there, the attack will also do BOD damage which is also not defended against (ouch!) If that Advantage is NOT there, the attack is STUN only.

NND was explained by Lucius quite well.

If you can add Damage, depends on the base Power. Asuming that you have 6E the answer is:

If the Base Power is HTH-Attack: perhaps. HTH-Attacks with Energy SFX that add STR are not common, but possible.

Blast, No Range: No. Would also be the least likely build.

HTH-Killing Attack (or HKA): Yes, STR would add unless it has a "limitation". This seems the most likely build.

Range Killing Attack, No Range (or RKA, no Range). Rka a does not allow to add damage. Cost wise this is identical to HKA, no STR Bonus.

Other Power (Drain, Transform, whatever): No other Attack Power adds STR to the damage.
