CorpCommander
I had a very interesting discussion about what vehicles one might prefer in a Post-apocalypse setting. Obviously the environment would dictate the general nature of the ideal vehicle (Waterworld vs. Mad Max's desert) but we tossed around ideas on which APCs from today's world would be best. Clearly the lighter, more fuel efficient ones would be best because the fight for fuel would be really tight but then the discussion took a whole new twist. Some groups would opt to go with different technology and develop really amazing off road bikes (human power). Some would rediscover the value of horses (assuming enough edible plant life) and some would devise alcohol based vehicles. Then someone suggested bio-diesel fuel... which meant that every fast food restaurant would be a magnet for scavengers because of the massive fat traps. The idea of fighting over a MacDonalds because of it's fuel reserves... wonderful! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biodiesel

Christopher
Re: The importance of Fast Food Restaurants during the End Times APC's would propably be too heavy already. Armor is nice, when you have the supply to move it around. As we germans learned 43-45: A tank without fuel is not even useable as help Anti-Tank canon and MG-Nest. It's simply not mobile enough. About horses, if it's a zomby apokalypse, there might be something even better. Zomby Horses: http://www.zombieranchcomic.com/2009/10/14/its-a-living/ Yes, the idea to use old oil for that isn't very new. I've even watched a report of a Taxi driver who does this. Modified his Taxi with a second tank and built a purification system for the oil in his basement. He still needs some Diesel during start and before halting (the oil will make trouble if it stands in the pipes), but overall it works well. And I heard they once tested something out in the German Military: Does a Leopard 2 run on manure? Answers was: Yes, it does! So there is another reason to have kettle. As long as it is organic (high carbon amount) and easily sprayable it's combustible with air. Even coffe powder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YQNxe-52i-

(but' date=' zombie animals would make it REALLY unfair)[/quote'] Of course, if you are willing to accept some films as source material, we do see zombie-like behavior in animals. Examples include the Will Smith version of I Am Legend (when his dog gets injured, etc) and Resident Evil: Extinction (the convoy being attacked by crows that have been infected, etc).....So yeah. If Ataxic Neurodegenerative Satiety Deficiency Syndrome ever does develop and ends up able to cross species lines we are soooooooooo screwed. -Carl-
