Hyper-Man
The SPEED chart works best when at least some of the characters Hold their actions. To keep this from slowing things down the players should always declare what the PC is Holding FOR.
Hyper-Man
Held actions are what allow some of the coolest Martial Art moves like combining a Block with a Strike in the same move - something that is not possible when using an Abort to take a defensive action like Block or Dodge. Altair
I agree, holding some of your action is just one of those things I really like. We differ a bit on point #1 - the fact that you had to declare held actions in D&D always sat weirdly with me, and I wouldn't really want to introduce that limitation into Hero. But yeah, action stacking for block + riposte? Wicked awesome.
Greywind
The "hold for" has never worked for me. Holding is a tactic. Tactical situations change. The player should be free to interrupt, within reason, at any point after holding to finish their action.
Chris Goodwin
I've never had a problem timewise with people declaring or not declaring delayed Phases.
bigbywolfe
I kind of like doing it so that if you declare what you are holding for and that circumstance occurs you don't need a Dex roll off to interrupt, but if you just generically hold you have a DEX competition and your attempt to interrupt might not happen before your opponent acts.
