tigersloth
Is anyone aware of anybody posting any conversions of mutants and masterminds characters to the Hero System? Either from their Freedom City setting or even back to Meta-4?
Lord Liaden
Steve Kenson was originally developing his Freedom City setting for 4E Hero System, but that didn't work out, so he eventually converted it to Mutants and Masterminds. But he still had Hero character sheets for most of the characters from the first edition of the M&M setting book in a RTF file, so he ended up putting that on his personal website for free viewing. I don't know if it's still there after all these years, but I did save a copy. Freedom City.rtf dsatow
Major Tom 2009
I find it just a tad frustrating that one of the villains in Freedom City -- Star-Khan -- didn't get a HERO version writeup in Mr. Kenson's document. Lord Liaden
You are entitled to. But Steve Kenson gave away a significant amount of his work to the gaming public for free. Not many people would be that generous, in or out of the hobby.
tigersloth
Thats an amazing resource, thank you Lord Liaden. An initial scan of the characters makes them seem more low powered than there mutants and masterminds versions, especially the heroes. Has anyone else done any other conversions? or conversions of newer characters in the setting?

True enough, I suppose -- I just wish I could figure out where to find the M&M to HERO conversion method that he used to create these writeups; that would make writing up the missing characters a little bit easier. Lord Liaden
I doubt Kenson was working from any sort of conversion matrix. Since he created those characters, I think it more likely he simply rewrote the abilities he wanted for them in d20. Those probably don't precisely match up with their Hero 4E versions. Lord Liaden
Would it help your purpose to see conversion guidelines between Hero 4E/5E and First Edition M&M? There used to be some posted on this website and elsewhere on the Internet -- I might be able to dig them up.
tigersloth
Yes, from my point of view that would be very useful, thank you.
Lord Liaden
Okay, here's everything I could find on the topic from the Hero Games forums. Note that some of the links posted to these old thread are dead, but I recovered what I could to link to this post. They all still contain useful info, though. http://web.archive.org/web/20100813145851/http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/14626-Just-Got-Freedom-City-Some-Very-Early-Conversion-Ideas http://web.archive.org/web/20100813153137/http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php/14907-Presenting-The-Centurion This last is from the Atomic Think Tank d20 website, with details on converting from Champions to M&M, but mostly usable in the other direction. http://www.atomicthinktank.com/viewtopic.php?p=266549
Sketchpad
The easiest way to transfer between M&M and Hero is to not look for hard guidelines. Use the basic concept to recreate the character in Hero. A general rule is that a PL10/150pp character should be around a 400 point beginning character. So a power at 10 might be around 75 AP in Hero, making a ranged damage 10 blast around a 15d6 blast. If you want to simplify it even more, that 10 damage could be a 10d6 blast. EDIT: I'll note that some of the AoV villains began their life as Hero characters. I remade them in M&M by just working with the concept. dsatow

Freedom City.rtf I was reading parts of the Emerald City Supplement and thought, "A lot of this sounds like a HERO game term but I'm probably over thinking it." Given your comment and the Wikipedia article, it reaffirms I wasn't just imagining it. Thanks.
