  1. Re: Eberron Hero Jon's a verteran - so it seems reasonable to buy up DCV. You could even say that he's trained to actively dodge while casting (unlike most sorcerors) and lower the cost to reflex that the protection is only valid during casting - sorta like Drunken Master Somantics. Many of the new classes break the classic mage mold of "no armor, no decent weapons and few HP", Jon could incorporate a few more of those ideas besides just using a rapier. If Mastermind was cool with it, his battle experience could also be reflected by Combat Luck, as mentioned before. Beef him up or make him harder to hit. Onase sucks as being the meat shield.
  2. Re: Herophile Fantasy art Oh, in case GoldenAge doesn't check this thread - I'd ask him if you need more info on this. He's heavy into graphic design and used to work at a copy house when I hung out with him eons ago. He'd most likely know more about what I'm trying to explain. In case he does - Hey dude, pass me a beer. "Marathon"
  3. Re: Herophile Fantasy art Another idea for ya is to go to Kinko's (or whatever) and have them photocopy it with a machine that has the feature that ignores blue. I'm sure there is a technical term for it but it escapes me. It's used by comics people all the time - so I'm told - to clean up their layout work.
  4. Re: Herophile Fantasy art Here's my attempt as I didn't see anyone else post one. The first is a simple tracing. It's a bit rough since I am having problems with my tablet and had to go back to using a mouse (I'm so easily spoiled). On the second file, I took the liberty of coloring it; I attempted to use your color scheme found in a different pic. Unfortunately, at this resolution, I could not adequetely discern the designs you had on the armor and left those out. Perhaps if you like to e-mail me a better resolution scan I can rework the image to include them - PM me if interested. Nice pic, I can see why it'd be a favorite.
  5. Re: Storn Art from Idea to Full Picture Year 2 Hello everyone, I had a ice-themed character over on HeroCentral that I had gobs of fun with. She was an energy projector but her power was called "ice-fire". Bluish-white flames would surround her as a force field and streak out as an attack. Picture the Human Torch but with shades of cool colors rather than warm. She could also drop the temperature about 6 levels - the color to that power was that her skin would turn colorless and her hair would turn a brilliant blue. (my 2 cents)
  6. Ahh HAAaa!! (Sorry, inside joke) Cool! I didn't know if you were going to GM or if I needed to. Hopefully by the time my eye heals and Todd finishes his story you'll have all those villians done!
  7. What exactly can a person use Block for? Is it just HTH attacks HKAs, or is it for any martial or "normal" manuver? The reason I asked; I had a Brick try to do a Move-Through on an Martial Artist. I had the benefit of cramped quarters and thought it was a good move. The MA Blocked successfully (as far as rolls go) but I was left with the disturbing mental image of Mr. Miagi standing on a railroad track looking rather smug as the train races towards him. Thanks.
  8. While I enjoyed the first three TC books I remember trying to reread them once several years ago and couldn't push past those first three or four horrible chapters and gave up. I remember the story being very moving and I liked it. Again, I was about 15 at the time so I'll put that down as not knowing better. I wasn't overly fond of the last three but I had a lot of time on my hands at the time and got through them unscathed. In the end, I can not say they are the worst books but can certainly understand a lot of people not liking them. I seem to be the only one here that is going to bash Salvatore. I mean how many times can writer recreate the same character and still be taken seriously? "Oh look, a new story and the hero is a RANGER again..." Sounds like why a lot of you don't like Jordan. I've never read him and I think I'll pass. For the same reaon I find I'm no longer interested in H.P. Lovecraft, but that's OT. Brook's Elfstones was much too long and hard to plod through. However I did like Kingdom for Sale series and his newest series. The biggest "chase the author down and beat him to a pulp" vote (which is the original topic IIRC) I have would be for Gary Gygax. The first "Gord the Rogue" book was so good IMO that it suckered me into reading it to the very final piece of over- dramatic, insepid drivel as I kept expecting him to pull his head back out of his rear and return to what made the first one so enjoyable. I should have clued in on the fact that his publisher dropped the books after they started getting bland (for whatefver reason they had) and Gygax was forced to publish them himself.
  9. The Juggernaught battle with him, Rogue and Psylocke showed the knives going in the only place where they would help the situation - under the behemoth's helmet so it could be removed, so on and so forth till the end of the battle. Once again, Longshot was portrayed as wildly flinging them, seemingly letting his Luck (an actual power attributed him in the Marvel Universe write-ups) determine where they connect. This sounds like Find Weaknes to me, with a lot of color that wouldn't necessarily need to be worked into the cost one way or the other. Speaking of that write-up, I'll try to find it tonight and let you know of anything that may contribute. Like Iceman, this character could probably best use a small VPP to keep up with all the power stunts - like the She-Hulk entangle.
  10. Longshot's blades Longshot's CVK should be pretty lax IMO. He was engineered as a fighter/actor by Mojo to perform in an environment where the action, bullets and wounds are real - not special effects. Longshot even once skewered said blob with his longsword. (Or at least tried to - I think Spiral stopped the sword from actually doing anything.) In the limited series he regularly flung his throwing daggers into the demons chasing him. His luck powers were working at the time so he obviously didn't have a motivational problem with it. One could argue that he knew that doing so only made the demons disappear, but I'm sure he didn't know that the first time he threw a knife into one. When confronted with a man bent on suicide, his responce to the man was "life is fun!" and wondered why he'd try killing himself. "Life is sacred" sounds more like a CVK answer. Longshot is one of my favorites. All said, you should be willing to play him as your character as you will. If you think he GAINED a CVK then more power to you. But it's not in the books.
