Re: A Thread for Random Musings
I thought I had something to say, but I just realized that I don't, not really. Guess I'd better go walk the dog...

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
I don't want to get up.
I don't want to go to work.
I had a lovely Sunday.
Why can't I have another one instead?
Phoo.

Bed time. I think I will sleep tonight. That's always nice...

Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread
Ya know, I didn't even think y'all would notice I'd gone, then I read this thread. Thanks. I appreciate that.
All the more so as I'm feeling very inferior right now, as I can't do half the things any one of you can do.
I feel appreciated now, though.

Re: Trying to run a game for my old GM --
Well as a quick reply' date=' I'd recommend checking Storn's character art thread.[/quote']This is also very helpful. Is there an easy way to find Storn's character art thread? Or do I look by trial and error? I'm most familiar with that method...
There's lots of new ideas to surprise your players with.Otherwise, come up with one or two ideas for a villain, flesh it out a bit (you don't need a full writeup; but it does help) and then decide on what sort of backup they need.
Try to ignore the players weaknesses and vulnerablilities when writing up the adventure but check later to make sure that you won't insta-kill or drop a player on accident.
Hmm... I sense that I will need to read the books to get a better idea about what powers are available. I mean, picking the players' brains will destroy all sense of suspense, and I'm looking for it to be interesting...
I already have one bad guy thought of, and the GM said he'd help with that one (it's a clone of one of my heroes, only, after she has enought points to build her properly, and yes, she has one major susceptibility already built in). And there were other ideas I've had that would work better for villians than heroes anyway, now that I think about it. Maybe I'll dig them out too.
Ya know, this might actually get off the ground.
Thank you! I hope I can come back if I think of more questions.

Re: Trying to run a game for my old GM --
I don't always build with balance in mind. A few characters swing high on the power scale. Some swing low. I just try to keep in mind what a given character is for and how I intend to use them. This is actually what I had in mind when I asked for help, and thank you. A suggestion for what to look for, and where I should be paying attention. That's what I'm hoping to find.
Thanks again!

I am seriously considering running a Champs game for a while. I have run Storyteller games for years, so I know how to do the story part and the running part. There are at least two rules-mongers in the group I game with, so an exact understanding of all the rules seems to me to be unnecessary. I could be mistaken, but please don't let's descend into a brangle on this topic. I've been playing Champions for years, so there's a basic understanding of the rules. I doubt I have microscopic knowledge, though.
The question I have, and this might not be the best place for it, concerns creating characters, both bad guys and good guys. In the past, I've told the GM what type of character I wanted to make, and together we built what I had in mind. Now if I do that when I build the bad guys (rely on my old GM for help, I mean), I'll never be able to surprise the player who was once the GM.
What do you look at when you build a bad guy? If you're building for a group of champions, it seems that you need to look at what the good guys can do and so on, for the power level, if for nothing else. But I don't want to make a team (or several teams) of bad guys that have all the attacks the good guys are vulnerable to and none of the weaknesses their powers affect -- talk about cheating. I also don't have any idea about how to create a stable of bad guys and teams without repeating the same formula ad nauseum and without taking unfair advantage of the players weaknesses. I think I'd do better to create at least one team of villians first, before I even suggest that I run a game. That way I won't have to constrain myself by constant referrals to the good guys' character sheets. I don't even know whether that's a good idea or a bad one. I mean, what am I looking at? Where do I start?
Any suggestions? Or even, point me somewhere else that this has been discussed, and I'll go read there.
Thank you!

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
By the way, and just as an aside, did you know that if you regularly play Sims2, you do strange things with your sims? I mean strange like green skin with blue scales, and bald, and naming them Will Zornish...
Of course, the alien babies are kinda cute too... Will Zornish has a wee girl child with alien eyes and no hair yet. She'll grow up soon.
Dang, I'm peculiar.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
An old and common theme is nominating colorful terms for groups of things. Pride of lions, murder of crows, gaggle of geese, and so on.I nominate two for "official" status into American English:
- a Deafening of Harley-Davidsons
- a Constipation of RVs
My favorite was always a clutter of cats, but I think that's a real one.
How about a scatter of aspirin? Well, that's what always happens to me when I try to get the dang tamper-evident seal off the bottle...

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Nothing to say. It all sounds like either bragging or whining. The reality is that it is merely there. It just exists. It can't be good or bad, wrong or right, until an outside entity puts a value to it.
I am applying no value to any of it until I get a grip on it. I suppose you could say I am waffling.
Waffling. Waffles. Now, that's good.

Re: Musings on Random Musings
Thanks, guys! Kly and I took a little road trp this afternoon to get some dinner, but before dinner we went to the dealership. It took a litle trying and some general squeaking indignation to Jae Park who sold me the car and to one of the managers, but they will arrange things so that I can go by on my lunch hour on Monday, drop off my car and pick up a loaner for the duration. I believe they grasped the essential wrongness of driving a "new" car for only 275 miles before the check engine light came on, either that or seeing me in my get-what-I-want-and-get-it-now mode ... umm ... caused them to consider carefully what their response should be. Their first effort was to calm me down. That might have been because my squeak carries quite well and the showroom was full of potential customers. Such a pity if their ineptitude were to scare away profit, don't you think?
Now that squeak is quite a talent. You can ask Kly if you like.

Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group...
Ok, this was an out of character comment:
Marshmallows should not be crunchy.
Ok, there was a recipe in last Wednesday's Washington Post for marshmallow Peeps, and while I was sharing it with anyone who wanted to look, I remembered that Doc gave me a zillion half-price Halloween Peeps because he knows I like them stale, and I'd had them in the pantry ever since then. So I broke out a package, and poked 'em to see whether they were done yet, because sometimes the packaging keeps them mooshi for years -- no lie -- and they did not moosh even a little. When we (yes, two others assisted me in munching on the firm little edibles) broke them apart, it was with an audible snap, and biting their adorable wee heads off you could hear across the room. I liked it. Kly was less impressed and said the above.
Doc: Incredible marshmallow crunchiness!
Other Female Player: Words that somehow should not said together...
But I digress...

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Ok, so life has been chaotic here lately. I mean, why should today be any different? Sheesh. Anyway.
Got new laptop -- laptop still running great! All good!
Got new used car. Cute little Toyota Echo. Compact that doesn't feel like one. Rides much higher than my old car, so I can see through those razzafratzen flippin' dang SUVs, rather that staring at their rear bumpers like they were fast-moving, unstable brick walls. This is cool!
Best friend snuck up on me from Florida! This is cool, too, way cool!
Check engine light comes on in new car. Suddenly, I become grumpy. I have had the thing seven days at this point. Call dealership for repairs, leave message, get no call back. Now I gotta figure what to do. I have 30 days of 100% warranty. I need to get it fixed quickly. Or else decide I have purchased a lemon. Phoo. Ok, get serious now. Decide what to do.
Go out to dinner with best friend, at Thai restaurant we used to go to on Fridays before she moved to Florida. Discover restaurant is under new managemet. Discover that new management can't to Thai salad or Pad Thai so that either of them is edible. Discover that the stuffed chicken wings aren't even on the menu anymore. Regret even mentioning this restaurant to both my bosses while asking to leave an hour early for the purpose of attending said restaurant, much less bragging that it is the best in town. Grouse. The Drunken Noodles is good, though not good enough for the recommendation I gave it.
Anyway, it's a weekend, so I have time to read the boards a bit.
Grump. What a way to end a perfectly good month.

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Hee! My best friend who lives in Florida pulled an April Fool's on me. She called last night at about six o'clock, and said she'd jump on a plane and be here in an hour.
An hour later she knocks on the door.
God, it's good to see her...

Re: A Thread for Random Musings
Got a new laptop. All bets are off.
It took me a couple of weeks to get online with it -- mostly because we had to wait that long to get DSL...

A: Dangit! Someone responded before me.Q: Uh, mr. Grond, Sir, that was quite the temper tantrum you just threw. What was it in aid of?
A: Because I wanted to. Besides, there's nothing wrong with purple oranges that a little food coloring won't fix!

I am listening to the soft breeze the heat pump makes, and the pulling of the fibers as the cat, lounging across the back of my chair, shifts position, and the hum from my computer. Is restful here today.
