  1.  Have the SPD-DEX Chart matrixed out in advance, so you know who goes when. "Phase 8, Defender your Phase, Witchcraft you're up next" cuts combat time in half compared to "Okay, Phase 8; who goes on 8? What's your DEX?"

I really like this. Straightforward and sounds like it would work well. Thanks BDH! :)

While we're on the subject, I find the two column format of Hero books means they also read very well in PDF on an iPhone. Perfect for cheering up that dull commute to work or using for quick reference in-game. I think the new Champs Complete will work particularly well in that last point due to the more condensed approach.

Picked this up in PDF from the Hero Store last night. On first impressions I can definitely say that this looks very nice indeed! Takes me back to the earliest editions in some ways. Job well done Sir and an excellent addition to the Hero library! Hope it sells bucket loads! :)

  4. Re: Why I prefer HERO System over Pathfinder/OGL/D&D for fantasy

For me, it's the freedom of setting up the world and mechanics I want combined with the ease of running the game in that world while playing. The system runs incredibly smoothly, yet also allows for a depth of construction that is hard to find elsewhere. I find this in fantasy, sci fi or supers, it's just a pleasure to game in.

Cageym - have you picked up the 6th edition basic rules book? It's nice and compact, much in the way of the first edition and a really good re-introduction to the game IMHO. :)

    Welcome back!

  6. Re: Which tools from the toolkit can be dropped in a low powered game?

Great thread. Howabout just having one CV, rather than an OCV and a DCV?

To be honest, I would just give it a go dropping END bookkeeping and see how it runs. There'll be a low variation in speed anyway and not too many dice to roll in any attack.

I like the idea of knowing all the speed and dex scores and having who goes when first clearly written out. That would make things feel much more fluid compared to going: Anyone got dex 15? 14? 13? Etc.

Please post on how the game itself goes. :)
