  1. I totally agree with assault here. I have one rule that I live buy more than any other as a GM. “I DO NOT KILL PLAYER CHARACTERS! I LET PLAYER CHARACTERS KILL THEMSELVES!†This whole thing sounds like a group of supers that just made a mass suicide pact. So be it! Your job as a GM is to give them the death they want so badly. Just make it spectacular.
  2. I played in a campaign in last edition where the GM aloud a PC to take Disolification, usable as an attack, leaves body behind. The only defense was not getting hit. So this PC would use the attack, the body would collapse, and he would walk over and calmly slit the NPC’s throat. What fun.
  3. Why are bricks so popular? I am running a new game of Super Mercenaries, in a Rifts style setting. It was/is a unique opportunity for me as a GM because the group as a whole had never played Hero before! So I explained the world and there place in it. And set them free to make character concepts. This is the important part. No one had ever seen a Hero character or had any idea of what they could or could not do. After repeated assurance from me that they could indeed play any thing they wanted to, I got some great ideas back form all of them and we went on to make so very original and fun characters. Now to the point of the post. Every one came up with very different concepts but 5 out of the 8 players concepts turned out to fit loosely in the category of a brick. And depending on how lose you want to make the brick category you could even goes so far as to say 7 out of 8 are bricks. We made every ones character according to concept. And I ended up with a group with very high defenses. This in it self is not a bad thing for me, I have never had any problems dealing with high defenses, there is more than one way to skin a cat. However is did start me wondering if this was normal in Champions style campaigns. So to all you GM’s out there; do you find most of your PC’s want to play characters with high defenses?
  4. Does any one know who’s intellectual property Colossus originally was? Who came up with the idea?
  5. Colossus is consistently referred to as having an armored form or activating his body armor in every comic or novel I have ever read. Although it is the older story line, its been a long time since I have read any comics. Any way I am going to go with the armored form because that how it is described in the original story line.
  6. I think one of the big misconceptions about Colossus is that becomes solid metal. This is not the case. He is a normal flesh and blood man, covered in metal armor.
  7. Hi, I started a Thread in Hero System Discussion, but no one has an official answer. So… Thanks for your time.
  8. I don’t have Fred with me by I thought I read OINID takes at minimum of one turn to change forms? An I on drugs again?
  9. Hummmmm... OIHID is not really an option because 12 Seconds is a bit long to turn on his armored form. Don't you think?
  10. The Colossus Effect? I am trying to rip off the whole Colossus character for my campaign, with a twist. So I want your input on how to duplicate his armored skin. And the advantages that go with it. Is this how you would do it? What would you add? What would you change? Armor PDr? EDr? +1/4 Hardened -1/4 Visible (Armored Skin) -1/4 Requires Activation END -1/2 Full Phase to activate Increased STR+? -1/2 Linked to Armor Increased PER+? -1/2 Linked to Armor KB Resistance -? -1/2 Linked to Armor LS: Safe environment: Cold, Hot, Pressure, Vacuum -1/2 Linked to Armor Thanks
  11. In game terms I think MarcusDark is correct. But true IR is black and white only. Generally hot items are white and cold items are black, however it can be switched around. You can not see color. And there is generally a problem with reading. Because the temperature difference between the ink and the paper it is on is too small so all the letters are blurry. And you can not watch TV or read a computer monitor. However you would have no problem waking/running around in total darkness, you would see all the walls and even that cliff in front of you. In some ways it is even easier to see in IR that it is to see normally. As far as seeing thought wall, yes but it’s very limited. Generally you could see the studs in the walls and make out the vents in the ceiling. However you can only see some one in the next room if they are leaning up against the wall. And in game terms you would have to have N-Ray vision to do it. If you have any other questions let me know. I build Night Vision Cameras for aircraft for a living. Demonsong
  12. How do you figure leaping distance in enclosed areas? Obviously you can’t leap 10†forward in a room with a 2†ceiling. So how do you figure it? I was thinking 1†forward for every 1†up, plus 1†forward for every 1†down so you could leap 3†in a room with a 2†ceiling. What are your thoughts? I can t find any thing making it clearer in Fred, did I miss it? Thanks
  13. How would you would build a Weapons Multi-Power? As the title states, I have a player who want to create a Weapons Multi-Power (He’s a Mutant-Mercenary). So it is a bunch of different weapons that are attached to a weapons harness, an -1/2 OIF. And then most of the weapons are -1 OAF. So since the -1/2 OIF is all ready added in to reduce the cost would you reduce the cost of each slot that was an -1 OAF by just -1/2 and not the full -1? See example below. 47pts Weapons Multi-Power (70pts) -1/2 OIF Weapons Harness 3m High Frequency Blade ([47 / 10 =] 4.7 / 1.5 = 3.1 = 3pts) -1 OAF 3m Assault Rife ([47 / 10 =] 4.7 / 1.5 = 3.1 = 3pts) -1 OAF 3m Shotgun ([47 / 10 =] 4.7 / 1.5 = 3.1 = 3pts) -1 OAF 5m Fragmentation Grenades (47 / 10 = 4.7 = 5) -1 OIF Is this correct or am I on crack (again)? Thanks
  14. How do you know when to Dive for Cover? As a general rule I will not let characters Dive for Cover in abusive ways. Like avoiding hand to hand attacks (that’s what Dodge is for)….ect. But I have come to the conclusions that I may be too lenient in letting them do it vs. area effect attacks. Obviously if the NPC’s are throwing (or launching) grenades if a save bet you should/could Dive for Cover. But what about the energy projector that has an exploding lighting bolt? If the PC’s have never seen said energy projector fire an exploding lighting bolt how they would know to Dive for Cover. Especially if the said energy projectors normal lighting bolt and explosive lighting bolt look the same. The same question could be asked about all area effect attacks. How do you know that this one hex area effect entangle is not the same as the normal entangle that was just shot at you? Am I worrying to much about this? Should I just let the PC’s Dive away? Should I require a Perception roll? How do you as a GM handle this? Thanks
  15. Thanks Monolith, that’s what I though. But I wanted someone else’s view. Thats the call I made when one of my PC tried to get the no miss shot in against the evil Martial Artist. And I just wanted to make sure I made the right call. Thanks
  16. I am sorry but you are incorrect. The entry in Fred for Rapid Attack states in like the first sentence at it can be use for single or multiple opponents. So I am assuming that you can target two different hexes. What I am trying to figure out is if you have to pick both targets (or target Hexes) before you fire the first shot or if you can wait and see the out come of the first shot be for picking the second target. Demonsong
  17. I think I agree that a penalty is called for but I think that -8 total would be a little extreme.
  18. Dive for cover and Rapid Fire Explosions? Villain X has a 10D6 Exploding EB (His Plasma Ejector). He is going to shoot Hero Joe, twice using a full phase action Rapid Fire. Hero Joe does not want to be turned in to crispy bits, so he is going to dive for cover. Hero Joe picks a spot 5 hexes away and successfully makes his DEX roll. Now do both shots from the Plasma Ejector hit the same spot? Or does Villain X get to change his aim for his second shot at the new hex Hero Joe is in. This would suck for Hero Joe because he just dived for cover so he can’t do so again. I am assuming that both shots have to be at the same hex, or if they are to be shot at different hexes it must be declared before Villain X shoots. Please remember I am talking about Rapid Fire here not Auto Fire. Thanks
  19. Catch the punch? We have all seen it in the movies, some low life tries to punch the hero and the hero actually catches the punch. Block wouldn’t work because you didn’t actually catch the punch. So how do you do this? Is there a maneuver for this in the Ultimate Martial Artist? Yet another reason to buy the book. Thanks
  20. Star Hero for Champions! I picked up Star Hero at my local gaming store yesterday. I run a Super Mercenaries Campaign in a dark twisted near future. Some one once called it “Rifts Champions†and I kind of like that description. Any way space travel and all that are not a part of every day life in my game setting. How ever aliens and advanced technology are part of my everyday world. So I thought I would pick up Star Hero for source material and so forth. And Let me tell you I am really happy I did. This book is pack with good techo bits and alien packages and just all kinds of information that I didn’t even now I needed to know! The point I am trying to make incase any one cares is, that this book is very much worth reading; even if your not planning on ever running a Star Hero campaign. The only problem is now I have to get the others books. There might be some information in them that I didn’t know I needed to know. Later ,
  21. So would you have to take the does body advantage?
  22. Just drop the speed chart altogether. It’s how I do it. As the book states it requires a few house rules. But just going in DEX order all PC’s and NPC’s gets a phase then start over, once people run out of speed they are done and the faster charters get 1 or 2 extra actions. It has a few flaws but it speeds thing up a lot!
  23. How do you make a paralyzing poison? Entange, Def: 0, NND, resistated vers CON? I must admit I am kind of lost on this one. Thanks
  24. Disadvantages and Multi-Powers Dumb Question number 525,938 Can you take Disadvantages on a multi-powers for changing slots? The player wants to put -1/2 Extra Time 1/2 Phase to change Multi-Power slot. And because of that another question came up about putting an Activation Roll on changing slots in a Multi-Power. Thoughts?
  25. Hello, I apologies in advance I am not trying to be nitpicky. But you can’t give obvious focus invisibility. I emailed Steve about it a while back. So I will just post it here. Hope it helps. ME: Steve:
