  3. These powers would be used by the TV version of the character, not the book.
  4. Actually, he has a SPD of 6. I agree, it cna go down. He's fast, but not that fast. The 6 was before Rapid Attack and such. This was written (originally) before Wizard and Glass. I'm not sure about Autofire skills per se. I think his Multipower cover that. He should have Rapid Attack.
  5. I think you mean "Grom" from the story "The Corpse." i.e. the giant pig-man situation.
  6. The Kazei 5 sourcebook might help.
  7. Heh... yeah, I should. I'm not sure.... Variable Power Pool? Or some sort of Variable Special Effects on... on some power. I'll look that over. How about DEX 18, SPD 5? Hmm..... okay. Makes sense.
  8. Re: Re: Character: Roland (the last gunslinger) I can't wait to revise him properly... he has far more depth than I indicate here.
  9. As I said, ERB makes him out to be quite the superhuman, both physically and mentally.

Tarzan would go on to star in 22 sequels, as well as numerous films (both good and bad). As of this writing, the most recent incarnation of Tarzan is Disney's animated Tarzan, which despite the typical Disneyisms (i.e. song and dance routines and the like) was fairly decent, and FOX Television's Tarzan in New York, which just looks horrible. The story of Tarzan runs like this: in 1888 John Clayton, Lord Greystoke, and his wife, Alice Clayton, were marooned by mutineers on the coast of Africa. There Lord Greystoke built a home for himself and his wife, and fathered a child. Unfortunately the attack of a great anthropoid ape drove Alice mad, and she died a year to the day after the birth of her child. Lord Greystoke, overcome with grief, didn't close the door to his cabin properly, and fell victim to Kerchak, a huge bull ape. At about this time, Kala, another anthropoid ape, was grieving over the loss of her infant son. Hearing the cries issuing from the small cabin near the sea, her mother's instincts over came her fear of the cabin (and Kerchak) and she ventured in to find a crying baby. Swapping the live child for the body of her dead one, she promptly adopted the squalling infant for her own and fled before any of the apes could kill it. It should be pointed out Burroughs's apes are not gorillas but a more savage, anthropoid cousin. These creatures have a primitive language, and Burroughs likens them to the infamous "missing link." In any event, Kala's new infant is named "Tarzan" which means "white-skin" in the ape language. Tarzan grows quickly over the intervening years, and life in the jungle makes him fantastically strong and agile. He discovers his parent's cabin when he is 10 years old, finding both a hunting knife and all of his parent's books. Eventually he teaches himself to read English, as well as gaining some knowledge of how to use his knife, make a lasso, and make clothing. In his 18th year, Tarzan's mother is killed by a warrior from a native tribe that moves into the area. Tarzan is fascinated by the new people, and after killing his mother's murderer, decides to learn more about these men who look like him. He steals ornaments, food, and a bow, eventually add archery to his list of skills. At the age of 20 (circa 1910), Tarzan's world was changed by the arrival of another shipload of pirates and mutineers (such coincidence runs rampant through ERB's books). This time the people being marooned include Professor Archimedes Q. Porter, his daughter Jane, valet Samuel T. Philander, Esmeralda the maid, and their guide, William Cecil Clayton (Tarzan's cousin). Tarzan rescues this group from the dangers of the jungle, falls in love with Jane, and assists (in a roundabout way) in defeating the pirates. The Porters end up leaving Tarzan behind after the pirates are taken care of by a French warship. Tarzan, meanwhile, is busy nursing Lt. Paul d'Arnot back to health, after he was wounded fighting the same native tribe that killed Kala. D'Arnot teaches Tarzan French, and travels with him up the coast to civilization. From there, the duo travel to Paris, and eventually, Tarzan tracks Jane to Wisconsin. At this point the book effectively ends (read it if you want to know all the details), with a teaser about further adventures in a second book. Personality/Motivation: Tarzan's Psych Lims represent the fact Tarzan does not kill wantonly, but only if he is hungry or has a specific need (Note this idea is contradicted in the story to a slight extent. At one point ERB writes Tarzan will kill for pleasure, but later he has Tarzan state he will not kill a lion as he is not currently hungry. I thought the latter idea made for a better character and went with it). Tarzan is also "noble," which is hard to define exactly, but is related to ERB's ideas about "superior breeding" and "aristocratic blood." Basically Tarzan acts in a somewhat selfless manner, aiding others without a second thought for himself. Finally, Tarzan is (at least when he is younger) a practical joker of sorts, with the butt of most of his pranks being the local native village. Quote: "I was born there [in the jungle] My mother was an Ape, and of course she couldn't tell me much about it. I never knew who my father was." Powers/Tactics: Okay, let's get this straight right now: Tarzan is a virtual superman (small "s"). Burroughs states he is muscled like a Roman gladiator, with the sort of slim lines one would expect of a Greek god. At age 10 he was as strong as a man of 30, and his speed is such that he is faster than lions and leopards. He teaches himself how to read, how to tie knots and make rope, and how to use a bow. Tarzan learns languages astonishingly fast and in a few short months goes from forest savage to passable modern man. There is little that he cannot accomplish, and anything he can't do he will quickly learn how to do. Most of his powers and skills are self-explanatory, being the result of his forest upbringing (which has served to heighten his senses and physical abilities). Running down the list, we get the following: Martial Arts: Through tumbling and wrestling with his fellow apes, and while fighting for survival versus his rival Tarzan stumbles on the mechanics of the Full and Half-Nelson. He eventually learns other grappling maneuvers as well. Tarzan has paid for his equipment as he is a 150 point base character. The knife belonged to his father, while the lasso is something he learned to make himself. The bow and arrows were stolen from a native warrior. Tarzan's victory cry is supposed to be the bellow of a bull ape. It is loud and terrifying and will send animals fleeing. The brachiation power represents Tarzan's extreme speed through the trees. He virtually flies along, and doesn't slip or fall (unless the plot demands it). Appearance: Burroughs never actually describes Tarzan directly, but does give us a good idea of his appearance based on the reactions of others. We do know that Tarzan is very tall (ERB calls him a "giant" repeatedly), with sun-browned skin and long black hair. Jane considers him to be the handsomest man she has ever seen, and calls him a "forest god." Due to his life in the jungle and amid the apes, Tarzan is in fantastical physical shape, well-muscled and incredibly strong. He is also normally naked -- at least for the first 15-16 years of his life -- until he gains some idea of clothing and fashions a crude loincloth for himself. As a side note, Tarzan was almost scalped at young age by the bull-ape Terkoz and has an almost invisible scar on his forehead as a result. This scar will turn red when Tarzan is angry and/or outraged or in a fierce fight. (Tarzan created by Edgar Rice Burroughs, character sheet created by Michael Surbrook)

A gunslinger is best described as a combination lawman, paladin, and knight-errant. His mission was to keep the peace, enforce the law, and protect the land. But, Roland's land has "moved on" and is falling into ruin. Now, he searches for the Dark Tower, where, he has been told, he will find his greatest enemy. Roland's world is a strange place. It has "moved on," a phrase that is often repeated in the course of the stories. It means that the world has changed and not for the better. Things have been lost and forgotten. Wracked by war, both conventional and nuclear, it is home to invisible demons, mutants, and bandits. In some ways, it is reminiscent of the West as portrayed in a Sergio Leone film. Campaign use depends on the nature of the world. Roland would fit right into Grimjack's Cynosure or Corwyn's Amber. In a superheroic game, the universe of Mid-World, Tull, Gilead, and New Canaan would make a perfect setting for a cross-dimensional adventure illustrating the danger of falling for the Dark Side of the Force... Personality/Motivation: Roland is determined to find the Dark Tower, for it has been foretold that there, he will fight a great battle against Maerlyn and his master, The Beast. He will sacrifice even his close friends in this quest. Roland is a practical man, not given to considering what ifs'. He take's what he is given without question and responds as he sees fit. He can be very stubborn. Powers/Tactics: Most of Roland's abilities are based on his training with the use of the gun. He has spent most of his life perfecting his gunfighting skills and in the course of the story demonstrates such skills as shooting the gun out of someone's hand and shooting a knife blade in two. The Multipower reflects most of the abilities he's demonstrated so far. It is bought at Zero End, since he *never* seems to run dry. He has this trick of reloading the guns while fighting that doesn't require him to stop... His martial arts is based on conjecture. He is obviously trained in hand-to-hand fighting, and the maneuvers given are taken from sequences in the book. The hypnotism skills are limited to the extent that they can only be used on a willing subject. The Mind Control is rather basic and only allows him to give simple commands, "Sleep" and "Forget (subject)" for example. His Telepathy simply allows him to experience a person's memories. Roland's other abilities are taken from various incidents in the stories as well as logical guesses about what he *should* be able to do. It is obvious that he has other, undemonstrated abilities (for example, he speaks about five languages, but they aren't really named). Appearance: Roland is tall, but not overly so, and lean. He is not exceptionally handsome, but he's not ugly either. His hair is dark, while his eyes are an icy blue. Roland is usually dressed in denim jeans, worn boots and rough, homespun shirts. Roland carries a pair of .45 caliber revolvers, weapons that immediately identify him as a gunslinger, worn in a set of crossed belts. People react to this fact in various ways; fear, envy, loathing and jealousy are typical. Sometimes, he is met with gratitude, but not often, the world has moved on. In addition, he usually carries a waterskin, a purse (i.e. shouldersack), a knife, and an assortment of minor pieces of gear. Note: Roland ages dramatically by the end of the first book and looses most of his right hand in the beginning of the second. Designer's Notes: Jake is a young boy from New York City. Brought over by the man in black, he dies towards the end of the first book. He returns, alive, in the third (time is nebulous in Roland's world) and Roland has sworn to never loose him again. Maerlyn (or Merlin) is an evil sorcerer and the root of much of Roland's grief. Although the two have yet to meet, Maerlyn's servants (such as Marten and Walter, a.k.a. the man in black) have caused Roland a great deal of trouble. The Gunslinger was created by Stephen King for his fantasy series "The Dark Tower". It is a bizarre combination of science and magic, guns and spells, demons and robots. Set in an alternate universe that, at times, crosses over with our own, it concerns itself chiefly with the character of Roland, the last gunslinger and his quest to find the Dark Tower. At the time I initially wrote this character sheet, three books had been released so far, they are "The Gunslinger", "The Drawing of the Three," and "The Wastelands". As a final note, this character sheet is, in fact, very much out of date and in need of extensive revision. At the time of this editing, King has released the fourth volume in the Gunslinger series: "Wizard and Glass" and has announced the titles of the last three volumes: "Wolves of the Calla," "Song of Susannah," and "The Dark Tower." Once these books are released (this is to occur by November of 2004), I will be able to totally revise this character sheet and update it properly. 12. BTW -- After seeing The Rundown, I am thinking The Rock would make a far better Conan than Arnold ever did.
  13. I've seen this argued before. The problem is, he fights so many giant apes, lifts chests of gold, smashes people with his bare fists, and whatnot, that I figure he's got to have a 25, just to put him close to par with the "Ape, Guardian" in the Bestiary (who has a 30). REH has him as fast (or faster) than a striking snake or attacking panther. REH also comments a lot on his agility and quickness, which can be via levels and such, but after a while I figured that just ramping up his DEX made the most sense. This one is a toughie. He seems to ignore a lot of abuse... bu then get clocked and is out. I know in most cases it is from a surprise blow from behind to the head (thus negating his Combat Luck and getting a at least x2 STUN for hit location... maybe more if he was totally surprised...). I think it can go either way. He used to have a 5... but as you say, Rapid Attack and TWF make that unnecessary. Hmm... good points. I'll look at the write up and work with it. I think I'll put some of these suggestions in the Designer's Notes as options.
  14. Okay... but then I run the risk of stat inflation. If HB has a 5, what does Abe have? Should it be: HB 5, Abe 4, Roger 4, Liz 3? I'm always looking for new players for tge PBEM due to the transient nature of players to begin with.
  15. Hmm... INT yes, I could give him a bit more on that... but I'm unsure on DEX. He seems to get hit by a lot of stuff... so either all the supernatural baddies are really quick, or everyone has fairly low CVs. As for his COM... I debated 8 or so, but no one seems to call him ugly... or even care about what he looks like. Same with Abe come to think of it. Sorry, no. Maryland. But Kazei 5 (the "Neo York" setting) is a PBEM game.
  16. So basically, you think the stats are okay? I ask, as Hellboy here is going to be my base liine for the stats for the rest of the crew.
  17. That's an unedited list of Disads from my standard character sheet format.
