  1. Awww... you found me out! Plot... hmm... plot... I knew I left a plot around here somewhere.... Basically, it's a boy meets girl, falls in love, and grows up story. Of course, since it's a massive satire of NGE, one is bound to be conused by the color commentary.
  2. STR 75 is sounding better and better. Heck, the considering the abuse the character sucks up and keeps on going, she's got around a 40 PD & ED as well. Did I mention she can fly? And dodge bullets?
  3. Well... said character also trashes robots with an apparently indestructable bass guitar, so....
  4. Thanks for all the estimates guys... I think I'm going with a 50-75 STR.
  5. Actually, I read the nudity is symbolic of being reborn abd of being purified, as the magical girl form is meant to be a "pure" form of the original, and being pure, can then do all sorts of amazing stunts.
  6. Yeah, someone else come up with a STR of 1117 to hit escape velocity.
  7. Re: Re: Re: Muchas gracias! Sounds like me and Ninja Hero. The reviews seemed okay, and most people liked the book. But no one seemed to go utterly nuts over it.
  8. To be able to fit a baseball into orbit (with a bat) and wreck (well, damage) something the size of the Hubble? Seriously.
  9. For the magic question I'll have to add "Get Sengoku" yet again. Also, try and find "Mystic China." if you have patience it has some workable ideas.

His initial appearance in Usagi Yojimbo looked to be a one-shot, until Stan Saki brought him back again and again for further adventures with Usagi. In his first appearance, Jei fought Usagi and attempted to kill him for being "evil." A bolt of lightning ended the fight, and Jei was presumed slain. He later appeared as a bandit leader and captured Jotaro, Usagi's son by Mariko. The resulting fight with Usagi pitched Jei off of a cliff and into a river. He was found by a fisherman and recovered to full health. Killing the fisherman, Jei then encountered Keiko, the "innocent" and with her traveled about seeking Usagi. Along the way, he found the sword Kusanagi (Grasscutter) and fought both Usagi and Gen for its possession. He wounded both -- Gen severely -- before dying on the blade of Grasscutter. As his body turned to ash, it would seem that this death is for good... or is it? This write-up is for Jei after he encounters Keiko, but before his death (naturally). Personality/Motivation: Jei is utterly insane. He spoke at one point of being possessed by a burning fever and then awaking with the knowledge he was the "blade of the gods" and it was his duty to destroy evil in all its forms. The only problem is that Jei sees evil in everything and everyone. He has slaughtered whole shiploads of people and an entire processional party of a daimyo. Jei's main desire however, is to kill Usagi, so that he may then die and take his place among the gods. Although Jei is a sociopathic killer, he doesn't slaughter people wantonly. Usually he needs to be provoked to start one of his rampages. Of course, considering his nature, provoking Jei can be accomplished simply by talking to him. For example, Jei will not bow to any lord, or any processional -- he is "above" such things. When pressed to do so by a lord's retainers, Jei pronounced the retainers (and their lord) "evil" and carved up the lot. If not hassled, however, odds are Jei will not trouble anyone himself. Quote: "My actions are not my own! I am merely an emissary of the gods! My blade finds the evil in this world and destroys it!" Powers/Tactics: Jei is an excellent and accomplished spearman. He has fought Usagi to a virtual standstill several times, losing only by the slimmest of margins. He is also skilled with the sword, although not to the extent that Usagi is. Two of Jei's favorite tactics with his spear is to unleash a flurry of rapid strikes at a single target, or to whip his spear around in a large circle, slashing at all in range. In addition, Jei's spear seems to draw out the souls of those it kills, and several victims have remarked on feeling cold and/or extreme pain (Gen said that it "burned"). The +1 STUN Advantage was added to reflect this effect. If Jei ever loses his spear, he will find a new one and "consecrate" it to the gods. This requies him to hold the weapon up and bless it. The blade will then turn black. This consecration wil turn any normal wepon into a +1 STUN weapon. It should be noted that Jei's swords are not black, and that he could not consecrate the sword Grasscutter. The Hard to Kill power represents Jei's ability to come back from almost any wound. Basically, in oder for him to really die (magic weapons not withstanding), Jei must go to negative 38 BODY. His Aura of Cold is the sort of power some Game Masters may want to ignore. It is readily apparent in his first appearence, but less later on. Keiko never comments on it, although others do. Appearance: Jei is a tall anthromorphic wolf with *very* long black hair drawn up into a samurai topknot. His eyes are white and empty of pupils, while his fingers have long claws. He wears a long black kimono with white trim, a pale yukata, and a white obi. In the obi are thrust a katana and wakizashi, while Jei carries his yari in his hand. The yari is normally kept sheathed, but when the blade is revealed it is dead black. Jei's appearance is fairly frightening in of itself, but his voice is supposed to be "like one from the grave." Jei also seems to radiate cold, or at least the temperature drops when ever he is around. Designer's Notes: Jei is a very, very strange character. For starters he seems (or seemed) to be unkillable. Every time he was thought dead, he would return, whether it was from being struck by lightning or from falling off a cliff into a river. He didn't truly die until Usagi stabbed him with the sword Kusanagi. Even then, his death wasn't permanent, as his spirit entered the body of Inazuma, a female swordsman of unsurpassed skill. Persoanlly, I think that the last page of Usagi Yojimbo Vol III issue 22, where Keiko encounters the "new" Inazuma with the words "I've been looking all over for you... aunty." to be one of the most creepiest sets of panels in comics. 11. Re: Heroes out of Time This isn't that hard. In a case like this the GM needs to decide what super powers the characters have. In El Hazard, they all served to drive the plot, so in an RPG, the GM should decide what are useful powers (in the long run). Thus, no "random" powers tables, as that sort of goes against the whole genre. Sticking with the El Hazard setting, we have one PC who can see through illusions, one who is super strong, and one who can make old machines work again. The 1st power allows the PCs to deal with the Phantom Tribe, the second allows them to deal with the Bugrom, and the third lets the hero of the story keep Ifuita from blowing up everything. So... in your game you would need (as GM) to decide what powers they should have to make the plot move. In the one game where I tried to run this, I made everyone's powers an extension of them. So the new photographer didn't need his telephoto lens to see, the baseball player was super strong, and so on.
  12. Hmm.... any suggestions for how to make it more viable? It does seem that when he's on, he's really one and can do some serious stuff. Seperate the Overall Levels out and simply slap the same "Pure Motives" lim on them as well?
  13. I agree. It is obviously taken from the "Magical Girl Hunters" fanfics, and sounds more like writer can't stand the genre and/or doesn't "get" the idea behind the genre. Either that, or he really wanted to play the Punisher in a fuku.... (OTOH -- it does remind me of Kingdom Come.)
  14. Wow... no one said boo about a character totaling 1376 points... I must be loosing my touch.
  15. Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Longshot's blades Pity that. (Actually, I liked the older version of Wolverine. The mid-90s fanboy wetdream Wolverine (who killed what? 160 guys in his first issue?) was pretty sad)
  16. Re: Re: Re: Longshot's blades *shrug* They can't all be Wolverine or the Punisher.
  17. Yeah, but Quark did mention overdoing and/or pushing the power too much. And at times he did some crazy stuff on the series -- like entangling She-Hulk with just knives and a powercord, or his fight with Spiderman. True. It was hard to decide what he was doing in the series at time. I mean, his eye was usually glowing *anytime* he went into action. I do think this version is a tad more balanced for playability. Hmm... based on what scenes? Or is this from his first appearence with the X-Men? Hmm... maybe. I'll have to think about it. Argh... more rewriting! Thanks.
  18. Re: Longshot's blades I was trying to represent the attitude he had where he couldn't kill Mojo, and didn't want to kill Pup. He seemed to waver, actually, from willing to fight with no quarter asked, and then saying things like "Let's sort this out before someone gets killed." It was hard to quantify exactly.
  19. *Shrug* That's the way he's presented in the comic. Blame them, not me.
  20. Yes. The Luck-Based you are speaking of is for the Armor power. Here, I'm using a form of Linked. I figure with 6d6 you'regoing to get at least one Overall Level everytime you roll. Thank you. Oh, and check out the cast of Hellsing in Other Genres for the 3nd most expensive adpation I've ever done (#1 being Perfect Cell from DBZ and #2 being the Dhole from Lovecraft).

They could do little but crawl until one of them, a man by the name of Arize, created an exoskeleton that allowed him to walk upright. He then used this new technology to (as he put it) raise his race out of the mud and bogs. But some of his people refused to use the new technology, and for reasons that are never fully explained, eventually became the rulers of Arize's world. The Spineless Ones eventually asked Arize to create for them a race of slaves. Arize complied, genetically engineering is creations to look like the Spineless One's worst nightmares -- his slaves had humanoid form and spines, allowing them to walk upright. He also instilled within them a desire to be free, thus make a rebellion among his creations virtually inevitable. Longshot is one of these slaves. Created to serve as an actor, stuntman, and warrior for the Spineless One known as Mojo, Longshot starred in several of Mojo's ultra-violent films before rebelling to join the resistance. He then went off in search of his creator, and found Arize, who has been outcast for refusing to develop super-weapons for the Spineless Ones. Arize told Longshot of his true purpose, to lead his people in a rebellion against the Spineless Ones, and sent him on his way. At some point, Longshot ended up falling into a dimensional portal and landed on Earth. There he wandered about, not knowing who he was or what he was there for, eventually meeting up with B-movie stuntwoman Ricochet Rita and working with her as a stuntman for a while. Unfortunately, although he was enjoying his new lie, Mojo had sent agents out to find him, and they were getting closer and closer... This sort of sums up the prehistory to Longshot's original appearance in his self-titled 6-issue mini-series. The series introduces us to Longshot, Ricochet Rita, a fellow freedom fighter named Quark, the utterly insane and thoroughly evil Mojo, and Mojo's right-hand henchwoman, the six-armed Spiral. Unfortunately, although Longshot returned to his dimension at the end of the series, his popularity meant he was due to return at some point, and so he did -- as a member of the highly popular X-Men. Chris Claremont promptly made hash of Longshot's origins, and helped wreck what was otherwise a fine character. Personality/Motivation: Longshot, as a rule, is a genuinely nice guy. He also has an almost unrelenting positive outlook on life, and is an eternal optimist. As Dr. Strange puts it; "You have your eye on an ideal, you believe in the best thing can be." Thus, he tends to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, and tries not to hurt anyone, unless he 's given reason to believe someone is out to hurt him or others. However, Longshot won't, or at least tries not to kill, and will look for non-lethal ways to achieve victory before resorting to his various blades. On the other hand, this isn't to say Longshot hasn't killed. Flashbacks show that he has, and quite willingly, too. It's just he'd rather not these days, if he can help it. The desire to be free and to free his people (as well as anyone else he sees enslaved) drives Longshot to the utmost. He was (and is) willing to tackle Mojo (who controls an entire world, if not an entire dimension) all by himself. His powers made him a natural leader, and Longshot cannot deny that aspect of himself. Quotes: "Why am I so happy? I don't even know who I am!" "I'm a man in search of my past -- a past that seems violently in search of me!" Powers/Tactics: Aside from his genetically engineered body (which is strong, fit, agile, and very durable), Longshot (and others of his race, it seems) has been gifted with the ability to alter the laws of probability in his favor, allowing him to make the impossible possible. His use of this power is indicated by his left eye glowing yellow. This power is not absolute, however, and over use, or misuse can cause it to backfire, bringing misfortune to Longshot as opposed to unearthly levels of good luck. Along with his luck power, Longshot is accomplished at hand-to-hand combat and is an excellent acrobat, is skilled with a wide variety of weapons, and carries a belt of throwing blades slung over one shoulder. He has a long knife on his belt, and a second, smaller blade attached to one boot. Appearance: Longshot stands about 6' in height with a lean muscular build. His blond hair is shoulder length, cut short on the sides and long in the back. He wears boots and a jumpsuit of black leather, with a utility belt at his waist and a bandolier of throwing blades over his left shoulder. A large yellow star-shape in on the right breast of his jacket. Longshot's skin is said to be like leather (which I presume means it's hard and/or rough, as leather is simply cured skin...), he has only three fingers and a thumb, and two hearts. Designer's Notes: I rather liked Longshot's original appearance and was rather irritated to see Ricochet Rita vanish when he was brought back. I recently read that Rita was turned into Spiral by Mojo, which makes a twisted sort of sense when you read the original Longshot series, but also utterly destroys a really nice character. And who did Longshot end up with when he came back? Dazzler... (Longshot created by Ann Nocenti and Arthur Adams, character sheet created by Michael Surbrook)
  22. Re: Very nice Oh! Good suggestion! I'll add ... hmm... +10 PRE or so (maybe +15). As for the AP issue, note the DU gets the AOE line advantage as well, to represent its penetrating power. The only other thing I could do there is give the DU around x2 AP.
