  1. Re: Light based powers activate... Thanks for the tips Supreme. Yes, I meant to have two Image slots. One is for the ability to create holographic images. The other is to just be able to creat light to see.
  2. I'm trying to polish up a character for one of the PBEM campaigns that I'm interested in. I'm hoping to make the best character I can because it's been so many years since I've been in any campaign. I already have the character's background/history squared away. I actually think that it's come along pretty good. What's throwing me for a loop is the power frameworks. I think what I have so far is okay, but I think it could be better. The character has light based and stellar/star powers. What I've done is split the two power properties into two separate frameworks, an EC and a Multipower. Am I missing something that could possibly put my character over the top? I've seen so many creative ideals and conversations on this forum I think I'm asking the right crowd. Here's what I have... Cost Power END 17 Solar Charge: Endurance Reserve (200 END, 10 REC) Reserve: (30 Active Points); Custom Modifier (Personal REC - Can only recover when character can; -1/2), Custom Modifier (Limited Recovery - Only when exposed to sunlight; -1/4); REC: (10 Active Points); Custom Modifier (Personal REC - Can only recover if character could; -1/2), Custom Modifier (Limited Recovery - Only when exposed to sunlight; -1/4) 0 20 Sight Group Flash Defense (16 points), Hardened (+1/4) (20 Active Points) 0 5 Infrared Perception (Sight Group) 0 5 Ultraviolet Perception (Sight Group) 0 25 Stellar Energy: Elemental Control, 50-point powers 25 1) Force Field (20 PD/20 ED/10 Power Defense) (50 Active Points) 5 25 2) Flight 20", x8 Noncombat (50 Active Points) 5 31 3) White Dwarf: (Total: 55 Active Cost, 55 Real Cost) Density Increase (4,800 kg mass, +30 STR, +6 PD/ED, -6" KB) (Real Cost: 30) plus Change Environment 1" radius, +5 Points of Telekinetic STR (Real Cost: 25) 5 20 4) Gaseous celestial body: Desolidification , Costs END Only To Activate (+1/4) (50 Active Points); Custom Modifier (Only where gases can penetrate; -1/4) 4 25 5) Charged matter: Energy Blast 5d6, No Normal Defense ([LS: Immunity to Radiation]; +1) (50 Active Points) 5 80 Light Powers: Multipower, 80-point reserve 5u 1) Laser: Energy Blast 15d6 (75 Active Points); Beam (-1/4), No Knockback (-1/4) 7 5u 2) Lightburst: Sight Group Flash 6d6, Personal Immunity (+1/4), Armor Piercing (+1/2), Explosion (+1/2), Selective Target (+1/4) (75 Active Points); No Range (-1/2) 7 7u 3) Control over Light: Suppress Light based powers 15d6 (75 Active Points) 7 4u 4) Sight Group Images Increased Size (8" radius; +3/4), +/-4 to PER Rolls (38 Active Points) 4 2u 5) Sight Group Images Increased Size (8" radius; +3/4), +/-4 to PER Rolls (38 Active Points); Custom Modifier (Only to create light; -1) 4
  3. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? That's not just my perspective on how it works... This was portrayed in the JLA/Avengers crossover exactly how I stated. I didn't get your point though about the system and the complicity...
  4. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? It's not that there aren't those kind of people in the DCU, it's that the heroes of the DCU generally hold themselves and their actions to a higher level. I think this issue you are describing was addressed in the JLA/Avengers mini-series last year.
  5. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? Batman's weakness is pink...
  6. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? I agree with you on the points you made. I don't want to see heroes like Spiderman traveling down that killing road. There was a story a while back about Captain America having to take a terrorists/agents life to save innocents. Cap was pretty broke up about it even after being in WWII it wasn't something he took lightly.
  7. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? I haven't read a whole lot of the Authority, but from what I have read, the entire team is not afraid of using deadly force in a lot of situations. If that's the world they operate in, that's cool... the lines are clearly defined. I just see this as what would be considered a realistic or dark world. Personally, I like four-color with an occasional Daredevil/Bullseye moment thrown in. But that's if the situation and fits the character actually doing it.
  8. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? That's cool you like supers in that power range. We all have our personal tastes. As for the heroes that kill, I think a few of the others hit upon the fact that it just became cool to have these kinds of heroes that were willing to take the villain's life. What's sad is that a hero like Batman who has been operating for years with a rouge's gallery that has, according to today's standards, justified several times over someone taking their life, he has held back. It's more about the act of killing then the motivation of why would the hero kill? I don't have a problem with these Mature type comics... I think they have their place. But it seems the rest of the comic industry bastardized themselves imitating these mature comics and themes.
  9. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? The rewrite by John Bryne completely changed Superman's power level. He was no longer able to move planets, travel through time independently or breathe in space like he used to. I don't know if they've knocked his power level back to the pre Bryne era, but I liked the changes they made to him. It didn't seem like Superman was a God among supers...
  10. Re: How do you feel about Superheroes that kill? What about a hero that doesn't necessarily kill but one that doesn't have any problems with making sure a person is out of a fight? Someone with the mentality if you have a broken leg or arm, it's pretty hard to keep on fighting... Does anyone think there's is a difference between the two or is it just a small step over a thin line?
  11. Re: "24" Challenge You have to watch season 2 to see the depths of what Jack will do now and how far beyond normal law enforcement boundaries he is willing to go. I won't spoil it for you, but I think it's the best example yet of how much he changed after the season 1 finale.
  12. Re: Pirate-Theme Villains Needed Barnacle - Armored brick Scury - Disease / drain powers.
  13. Re: How would you simulate this power? If you apply Continuous to that Aid, does it still count as an attack action? Would it be a 1/2 phase action or 0 phase after the intial startup? So the dice roll equals the AP total to add to the characteristic? If this Aid was continuous, that would average out to about +2 DEX per phase right?
  14. Re: How would you simulate this power?
  15. Re: Global Guardians PBEM: 3 Immediate Openings How many submissions have you gotten so far Worldmaker?
  16. Re: Global Guardians PBEM: 3 Immediate Openings The house rules page gives some indepth details on some the power and character construction portions.
  17. I have a martial artist that I want to create that has the power to get better the longer he fights someone. How would you simulate this ability? I was thinking about having CSLs with some kind of disadvantage that they all could not be used when combat was initially started. What kind of modifier would you give this? And is this how you would do it?
  18. Re: New Character for review... Would this make him subject to deeper investigation if an enforcement official stumbled upon him? Say if he was pulled over for a DUI in his false identity? What about if he ever did get a girlfriend and her rich father did a background check to make sure the creep wasn't after her money? Of course he wouldn't find anything from the supposed high school or neighborhood that the person grew up in. That's a little bit of the direction I wanted to go in with that.
  19. Re: New Character for review... Thanks Vigil and Devlin. I'm definitely taking your suggestions and making some changes. Yes, I just purchased HD this Saturday. All the suggestions I got were spot on and the program is very helpful. I wish it was around back in the day. I bought the +1 to Int rolls to simulate Vanguard's ability to interpret the battle computer data. It doesn't necessarily do the thinking for Vanguard as it just provides statistical data that he has to interpret to effectively use it. That's why I have the RSR. Maybe I'll change this also. The False Identity is because he never actually had one while a test subject of U.S.I.S. He was basically created in a laboratory and never received a Social Security number. The false identity is something that he basically assumed to operate in public. But it may not hold up under major scrutiny if someone actually took the time to investigate. His second contact is basically his forger that he uses when he needs a new Social, etc. His DNPC is another older gentleman that he has started to look up to as a father figure. He has apprenticed under the individual who is an investigative reporter. This enables him to gain the skills he needs to uncover any conspiracies and it also has his DNPC getting in some sticky situations that requires him needing to be saved. Vanguard is able to teleport by basically bending himself in the space/time fabric. U.S.I.S. doesn't know if this is the result of their laboratory experiments or some genetic birth defect. None of their mutant detection equipment marked Alpha12 as one.
  20. This is the first character I've created in over 10 years. I didn't actually create him as much as I've redesigned him though. What do you guys think? None of the circuit is visible on the helmet from the outside. Anyone with the proper cable/interface and appropriate computer knowledge would be able to unlock the purpose of the helmet circuitry if they had a chance to look inside the helmet.Personality: Alpha12(Keith) has never had a Father, Mother, siblings or other family. The only father figure he has is knows is Roger Warrick and Alpha12 cares for him immensely. Because of this, Alpha12 finds it hard to open up and have normal relationships with friends, acquaintances and co-workers. Alpha12's distrust for government agencies is a direct result of his experiences with U.S.I.S. Is this scienctific agency can have such a covert and duplicitousnature, then certainly other agencies like the D.O.D. are far more dirty. Any new government scandal isn't a surprise to Alpha12, it's more like teaken for granted. Quote:"You're no better than I thought!"Background: Most people don't like going to the doctor. It's understandable. But imagine living with doctors. Being their guinea pig and subject to their poking and prodding. That's exactly the situation Subject 1980-Alpha12 faced. Created by the government agency U.S.I.S. (United States Integrated Sciences), Alpha12 was subject to new age thinkers and practices in the scientific community. One of the department heads, Roger Warrick, saw how lonely the test subject was took an instant liking to Alpha12 and formed a tight bond with him. Alpha12 spent several years in the test facility receiving training to become a spy and tool of the government. It wasn't until he was 18 that he learned that some of his fellow test subjects were being contracted out under the table to various corporations. The Alpha group test subjects were treated as expendable since there were many more where they came from, and the corporations paid a high premium for the 'under the table' use. Taking this information to his confidante Roger Warrick, Alpha12 wanted to do something about this scandal. But Roger already knew. Roger was more concerned than ever about Alpha12 since the recent loss of his son around the same age. He also knew that Alpha12 would not be able to stay since he was next in line to do one of these missions.Secretly helping Alpha12 escape from the test facility, Roger told him to stay hidden and never look back. But after years of poking and proding, and subject to the whims of 'The Man', Alpha12 couldn't just stay hidden. Establishing a new identity, Alpha12, now known as Keith, has vowed to protect those that can't protect themselves and uncover those that abuse their authority. Powers/Tactics: Vanguard tends to stick back and assess the situation before taking any action. Knowing the limitations of his power level, Vanguard won't blindly jump into the situation without knowing what he's up against. If there is someone that he has fought before and is in his combat database, he will tend to fight that person to get the added bonus from the battle computer. Another tactic that Vanguard likes to use is to teleport behind someone in battle and attack them from their blindside.Campaign Use:
  21. Re: Gamma Girl pics Go with the second pic from Chimera. While that one is showing some skin, it's not as much as the pic without leggings. Also, the pic by Chimera makes her seem sexy but not overly sexy.
  22. I've just had a great nightcap on an unexpected evening... First off, it's been too long since I've played Champions. My last session I was the GM and that was 10 years ago. Prior to that, the last game that I had played in worth anything was 17 years ago. So deciding to get back into the swing of things, I call one of the local hobby shops to see if they had a copy of Champions 5th ED. They did, so I stopped by and picked that up along with a few other books. While I was there, I asked the owner if he knew of any local Champion games or how I could hook up with one. He doesn't know and he didn't have a bulletin board to post anything. (Must be one of a tiny minority among hobby shops) He did suggest I stop by another hobby store to see if they knew something. He said they had late night gaming and a bulletin board. Well, I couldn't stop at that other store because I had to go to work. After work, I decided to swing by that other hobby store to see what time they were open. I was going to have to swing by there anyway to pick up a copy of Hero Systems 5th ED. I had looked at my new Champions book at work and noticed they had totally removed everything about character creation. So radically different than 4th ED! Well, I stopped by the store and they were open. One of the proprietors was involved in a Fantasy Hero's campaign and his GM also had a Champions campaign going. Not only that, they play during on of my off nights, Monday. He said he would ask his GM if I could join, but that was more than enough for me. After giving him my personal information, I was headed out the door when I saw a copy of Hero Systems 5th ED and Hero Designer v2.0. Both were purchased asap. Now all I have to do is familiarize myself with the rule changes. It's nothing definite, but I just can't help but feel this is going to turn out good.
  23. Re: Hero Designer... Thanks guys. I guess I'll download a copy when I get home tonight.
  24. Re: A couple definition topics I don't think having the ability or power to dominate society means you do dominate it. Someone with that power level may have the attitude of Galactus. He could do his own thing according to his motivations and desires, and if that includes domination, well... I would consider someone more powerful than cosmic, god-like or demi-god.
  25. Re: Hero Designer... I search for them then. If you know of any though, can you link me?
