  1. Re: Need Help From The Math Wizards

Ok, just wanted to make sure that my calculations are correct on this sitiuation.

Character only has 6 STR, and the STR costs 2x END (-1/2 Limitation).

What's the final net cost for his Strength?

    Thanks.

    - Christopher Mullins

    4 Points I would think...

Cuz if you have 0 STR and you were to buy +6 STR with x2 END, then it would cost you 4 Points.

  2. Okay, I had an idea for an underworld agent for Takofanes in my Champs game. Basically the creature is a Shade from the Underworld, and has powers like the Dementors from Harry Potter.

The Dementor's power is the ability to generate Mind-Numbing Fear in those around them, so I figured on using Mental Paralysis to create this effect. Aside from the Entangle Based on ECV, what would the following disadvantage be worth:

Can be negated with Successful PRE Roll

Cuz basically the Powers are built as such:

40 Fearful Aura Elemental Control 40 Points

20 Mental Paralysis Entangle 2d6. Based on ECV (+1), Takes no Damage from Attacks (+1/4), Works against EGO not STR (+1/4), AoE (8" Radius +1), Reduced END (0 END; +1/2), Persistant (+1/2), Always On (-1/2), No Range (-1/2), Paralysis Only Lasts while in Range of Effect (-1)

43 Chill of Fear Change Environment 16" - Reduced Temperature to -3 on Temperature Chart, Long Lasting (Plants wither and die), Reduced END (0 END; +1/2), Persistant (+1/2), Always On (-1/2), No Range (-1/2)

30 Fear of Shadows Change Environment 16" - Reduce PER to Sight group by 5 Points, Reduced END (0 END; +1/2), Persistant (+1/2), Always On (-1/2), No Range (-1/2)

  3. Re: Has anyone played in a game like this...

Wow... apparently a number of people had this "unique" idea... LOL! :)

My next question is: How do you regulate character creation? Some of the players wanted to give themselves things that they really do not have (although they think they do).

    Polaris

When it comes to skills, having a basic understanding of something gives you a FAM (you've read a great deal about it), having an extensive knowlege grants a KS (you've taken a few classes or done some major studying on your own), if you have a degree you get the 3 Point Skill (for each rank above Bachelors you get 2 more points in that skill).

As far as STR And such go, how much can you honestly deadlift? can you lift a 200lb person and and throw him? Then you get a STR of 10. Do you get hurt easily by Punches and kicks? Put an extra point or two in PD. Taken any Martial Arts? Buy a manuever or two and a FAM with the Style, and depending on how long you've spent on it, up your Dex by a point. Do you have good reflexes? Boost it another point or two. How far can you run in a Minute? How easily does it tire you out? Buy up or down your STR Accordingly and figure if it requires more END. Do you tire easily? Lower your END. How fast do you recover from being hurt or tired? Up your Rec. Just use common sense.

Are you a super-taster or do you pick on odors more than other people? Do you have excellent hearing? Buy a +1 with PER in those senses. Are you one of the people that can hear a dog-whistle (I can barely). Buy Ultrasonic hearing. Are you one of those people that are very anal about placing things and immediately notice when something has been moved? buy a +1 PER for Sight.

Are you a Speed Reader? Buy Speed Reading. Can you recall useless facts? Buy Eidetic Memory with a penalty: Only useless facts -0. Are you Multilingual? Buy Language Skills. Do you have a Hobby? Buy a Professional Skill. It's amazing how many 1 Point FAM and 2 Point KS's a person picks up during their life.. I think I'd have maybe 15 to 20 points in various FAM and KS's *shrug*

  4. Re: Independant Powers

Well the main reason I asked is cuz I'm building a Magic Item for a Morbane to use. It's an Infernal Rod (Multipower with OAF, IND, Gest/Incan, and Skill Roll Required). Basically it grants the ability to summon a handful of Lesser Demons, a Single Greater Demon, Project burst of Hellfire, etc.

Basically I was planning on setting it up so it's a bit like the Ring of Power - once you start using it you don't want to give it up, and if it's taken from you you'll do anything to get it back.

  5. Re: DEMON and its rivals

Well, there are descriptions of different archetypical Morbanes, with suggestions as to which of the power templates they'd likely have. There's no random generator.

Yes, the book has some magical artifacts. Not a whole lot, but some.

Woohoo! to the some Magical Artifacts and Power Templates

Doh! to the lack of a Generator and there being only a few artifacts.

Ah well, more fun for me. I spose I could always use my Dungeon Masters Guide to come up with ideas for magic items for DEMON to play with (nice to know that darn thing is getting SOME use as I am never running a DnD Game again :P).

  6. Re: DEMON and its rivals

As someone who loves mystical Heroes (wish I had the cash for Mystic World *sigh*), is there a random Morbane Generator or list of potential Morbane Constructs (ie, what powers a Necromatic Morbane would have vs a Summoning Morbane vs a Morbane who specializes in Illusions/Glamors etc)?

Also, I'm assuming when the DEMON sourcebook comes out it will have a list of magical artifacts just like Champions has an example page of Super-Tech. I sure hope so!

  7. Re: amateur champs minis

I actually used a white undercoat. I sometimes find the when I use pale colours over a dark undercoat that they don't look quite right. I do occasionally use dark undercoats' date=' but not when the figure is predominantly pale coloured. Having said this I think I have painted a grand total of ~20 figures, so I'm no expert, very much a beginner in fact.[/font'] :hush::winkgrin:

Well that puts you very far ahead of me. I have yet to do any. That's mainly cuz A) I have only Mageknight figures and no reason to Mod them and B) I still need the basecoat and clearcoat.

Any recommendations on what to use for a basecoat? I've heard spraypaint works best but have no clue what type to use. I'd assume Matte.. but why type of paint? Vinyl? Acrylic?

  8. Re: amateur champs minis

Bugger' date=' I almost forgot! I also bought a box of a dozen warhammer figures (can't remember what it's called now!), basically guys in armoured clothing with energy rifles and a couple of big weapons (flame thrower and chain gun). I've painted this into a VIPER special weapons/ tactical team (well I've still got a few to finish). :bmk:[/quote']

Do you do use a solid-black basecoat before painting? I'd love to know the techniques put forth by my fellow custom-figure-makers.

  9. Re: amateur champs minis

My current project: trying to get a friend of mine to hook me up with some Heroclix if he has extras (hard to get a hold of the guy... sheesh).

Once I get that done, I'll start out by doing the PC's before moving on the Villains. Prolly start with the big baddies (Doc D, Mechanon, Takofanes (Which I already have some Skeleton Mage Knight Figures), etc).

Course... Telios is really easy to do.. just get a blond in a labcoat lol

EDIT: Speak of the Devil... the first picture on the left to show after I posted this was Telios... oooh scary!

  10. Okay... I know that the Millenium 8 in the Super Heroes list on the Freestuff page were from the "Name That Hero" Contest (and I know they are on the cover for Champions Universe cuz I just got it a week ago).

Where do I find the writeups for them?

  11. Re: Physics students needed

Let us not forget, his webbing has a tensile Strength of Steel (from one of the spiders used to create the super-spider in the first movie).

Considering his webbing is about as thick as yarn... whatever the tensile Strength of woven steel measuring that thickness would give us an idea of how much strain his webbing can take.

Also, the buildings he webbed to were what broke, not the webbing itself. So you'd also have to figure out how much strain the buildings could take.

In HERO Terms, brick walls are DEF 5 BOD 3, and Concrete Walls are DEF 6 BOD 5...

And judging by the way GG tore apart Spidey's webbing at the end of the first movie, I'd have to say that his webbing would prolly be about 8 DEF and 5 BOD... not really sure, cuz the Goblin tore it down pretty easily.

  12. Re: First Adventure Module need revision

Okay, right now only 2 Writeups are complete (still waiting on some of my other players to get theirs done). Right now there are:

Spectre - Mentalist that can turn into a ghost (Desolid with the SFX she travels to the Astral Plane). Mainly an Intrusion/Espionage type. She has DEMON as a hunted because they want to control her so she can MindControl Ghosts.

TigerLily - Martial Artist with an amulet holding the spirit of an ancient mystical warrior, which grants her the warriors Powres. She has DEMON as a hunted because they want her amulet.

Another is a powered-armor user... still waiting to get an idea of what he wants done before we do his writeup (game isn't for another month)

And I have 3 (maybe 4) more players. 2 want to play bricks (annoyance to me... but that's what they want) and another wants to be an Energy Projector (no clue on what SFX or what not). Number 7 has yet to decide what she wants to play.

Upon rehashing the idea, I've decided to go with this:

Spectre has a DNPC that's a paranormal investigator, and uses Spectre's abilities so Spectre can search for and talk to ghosts. There is a mansion outside of the city limits that is reputed to be haunted. Spectre and her DNPC are there to search for ghosts.

As Tiger Lily is hunted by DEMON, trying to think of a way to put her in harms way, so to speak.

The Powered Armor has a Dream where Whitefox shows him Crystal Pheonix trapped in the Orb, and shows him how to get to the orb - but he has to figure out how to get to the mansion. Considering he's wealthy, he may have seen the mansion in a real-estate brochure while looking to purchase his home. (thus he'll be able to find the mansion without much trouble)

Some of the PC's hear of a monster tearing about the forest. They go to search for it, meet up, and find the Demon searching for the Mansion (it knows what it looks like but now where it is). They can either try talking to it (in which it tells them to go away as it has to find something for its master), attacking it (in which it flees), or following it.

Anyway... still have to wait on the other Players to send me their Writeups so I can look over them *sigh*
