I was joking with my wife (a very religious black Baptist from a long, long line of such) about how the oath of office would go:

Me: "I'm waiting for him to burst into flames when he places his hand on the bible."
Her (as Trump): "Can I just hover over it? I'm a hoverer, ok? I like to hover."
Me: "Repeat after me: I, Donald J Trump, do solemnly swear...."
Her: "Hold on, hold on: Before we begin ... I have this legal document that states our definition of the term 'solemnly swear' in the context of this contract..."

It is  my understanding that the Trump/Putin fan fic, has, in fact, gone in a different direction.

Putting your country first is not in itself evil. After all, you have the most control of what goes on in your own country. What is evil, in this day and age, is to put your country first,  last, and only. Which Americans are seemingly trained to do since birth.

Americans ever since the Cold War have had the alarming tendency to want other countries to act against their own interests if it benefits us. Which is why we spend so much time propping up dictatorships and kleptocracies in much of the rest of the world. When America's "strategic interests" are at stake, the opinion of those who actually live in those countries becomes irrelevant to us.

Which is why we continually find ourselves in disasters like Vietnam and Iraq. Despite them, Americans cling to the illusion that we are both right in enforcing our wishes and capable of doing so. As it turns out, neither is especially true.

The alt-right has a different definition of "innocent people" than most folks who are, you know, sane. A definition that is not all that inclusive.

They bring to mind what Fred Rogers told his audiences about "scary mad wishes" -- intrusive, terrible thoughts children and adults get that feature intensively destructive things towards people (especially loved ones). He reassured the children who were watching that thoughts are not actions. Just because you have a terrible thought doesn't mean it's automatically going to happen, and it doesn't make you a horrible person. You are only a terrible person if you act on those ideas. That's why actors who play villains are usually not villains themselves, why a writer of horror stories can still be a decent and ethical person, and how a person who foresees a terrible future can act to prevent it.

Throughout this campaign cycle, and probably for the next four years, I will be wrestling with the notion that many of the intrusive thoughts I have are shared with powerful people who can act upon them. In my case, the intrusion is disordered and does not at all reflect my actual values. I hate them, and hate myself for having them, but will usually act in the complete opposite direction. The problem is that there are people in positions of power who think many of the same things and do not consider them intrusive at all. And that scares me. It really does.

I don't think we should build more nukes until we've used all the ones we already have.  Fair's fair.... some of those poor things have been sitting idle waiting for their big moment for fifty years.

Also, if you really want to stick to the source material, then Wonder Woman will be tied up and gagged for half the movie so....

Frankly, I find the nu52 turning her into the daughter of zeus far more jarring departure than the movie starting in WW1.
