  1. Re: Kill the PCs?

I find that 'breaking' the PCs is a much more satifying act. Killing family, friends, hopes, dreams and then in the process having their will and determination rebuild them over time is a great thing to witness.

I do the Campbell, desent into the underworld a lot. Things go bad, they get stronger, they get better!

Killing them is just so final and goes counter to good storytelling. I try to avoid it when I can.

  2. I was reading over Star Wars d20 and I noticed that it plays nicely at the old school lower powered Jedi from the original trilogy.

But if you watch Clone Wars cartoon on CN you notice that the Jedi are WAY more powerful there.

After tinkering around I have gathered that HERO and maybe MnM are the only systems that could handle this strength level in a consistant way.

(Still relearning GURPS 4e so I shall not comment on it.)

Ever play a Sci-Fi setting with people this powerful?

  3. Re: light saber color signification

    *digs into Jedi lore*

The color of the lightsaber had little to do with what type of Force User you were. (Unless you play Kotor, where the primary 3 had a reason behind them. I'll get to that.)

The thing was that the crystal used to create the beam determined the color and the crystals used were very rare.

The Jedi order had a handful of worlds where they mined the crystals they used. And those crystals were mostly blue/green type. And so that color became rather typical of the traveling Jedi.

The Sith Master of yore had a large (HUGE) deposit of red crystals on their founding world and it became symbolic of a Sith to use a Red crystal.

In KOTOR the follow colors reflected the following Jedi 'jobs'.

Green- Jedi Counciler, Blue- Jedi Warrior/Guardian, Yellow(Gold) - Jedi Watcher/Sentinel.

The rest is up to you.

Oh, and Mace Windu (Samual Jackson) had a pimped out Lightsaber with gold trim and violet beam mostly as a joke.

  4. Howdy folks. I'm honestly trying my hardest to get local HERO play up reguardless of a strong resistance. Problem is I have a 'working' knowledge of Hero and need a stronger understanding of the system if I'm going to WOW people with what it can do.

So my question to the experts is: How would you learn(relearn) the HERO system in the fastest ammount of time to truely undertand it.

I know that play/GMing is the best, but imagine your trying to put together a 12 step program for a HERO newbie. Some form of training program to indoctrinate players to indepth HERO playing? How would you make it easier on the struggling GM?

    Thanks.

  5. Re: Who was the LAMEST?

It's funny a lot of the comics I loved as a kid are getting plugged here.

Power Pack - Actually before they got into the whole Inferno crap and started meeting Whoopie Goldburg looking aliens it was a very cool sci-fi super hero book. I love the Cloak and Dagger crossovers. And Franklin pre-godhood was a nice addition to the team.

Dark Hawk - Had it's VERY dry momments and the eventual crossover into New Warriors and Avengers was stupid it was a cool title. Again a nice book that came out around the same time as Sleepwalker. I read them both religiously.

Rom - Ah, what a cool book. The recent revision of it was a dog tough.

Personaly: Ravage 2099 was like having Stan Lee rub a hot poker in my eyes. Why Stan, why?

Hell, Punisher 2099 and Doom 2099 were stinkers. Spiderman and Xmen 2099 were pretty good though.

  6. Re: Vibora Bay... the Mystery of the Queen City

As I live in Florida that skyline and general atmosphere isn't hard to visualize. Vibora Bay is a West Coast City and they're a little different from the Easterly ones. Miami for example. City reminds me of Jackonsonville though.

What part of Florida is it located?

  7. Re: Early "What do you want to see?" for Teen Champions

I've done a bit of thinking about this and I think the teen-age super models break down into 3 archtypes:

Idealized Super Teens - Teen Titans TV show, the older Teen Titans comic book, goofy teen supershows, etc.

These type of games would revolve around more teen on teen interaction. Some nods to teen age life, but more about young characters kicking butt and saving the day. A LOT of Animes fall into this group.

Acadamy Super Teens - X-men, Hogwarts, New Teen Titans

Covered pretty well, but keep in mind the focus is on developing as a super and their choices and powers. Teens trying to be adults.

Urban Super Teens - New Warriors, Dark Hawk, Power Pack, Ultimate Spiderman

No real mentors to speak of. Trying to survive against vastly more powerful/experienced villians. Dealing with their powers with only themselvs and a select few to relate with.

A lot of Teen shows morph from one to another. Acadamy and Urban blend in a lot to each other.

  8. Re: AVENGERS DISASSEMBLED opinions

My favorite arc of Avengers was when Spider-Man was invited to join and he accepted. It only lasted for six issues or so' date=' but it was cool. The unwritten rule of no Spidey in Avengers needed to be broken. He's great by himself, but he's great on a team too. Why can't we have both? Does anyone know the lineup of the New Avengers? Isn't Sentry a mass murderer on the side as the Void? And how did he remember again?[/quote']

As for Sentry, no but his ultimate foe was his own shadow or something. If he remembered more about himself this shadow thing would show up and make his life and everyone else's life hell. So he deleted his memories & the worlds memories of him with Mr. Fantastic's help. No problem. He must have remembered a bit more again.

  9. I know that the Gagets and Gear did a great job coving the more gizmo oriented Champion game. Thing is. With the release of Dark Champions I think it is fitting to expand on the sterling work started in DC's guns/equipment section.

Expanded weapon customization, a larger selection of military hardware and skill packages for even more military units. Etc.

I know that DC did really, REALLY good job of covering most of this, but I can't help feeling there is always room for more. Especialy real world items that would be good stated in a game. Then again if I pulled from all the other books I could cover my Special Ops/Military style games, but it's a good idea.

Thoughts? Has this been done before?

  10. Re: WWYCD #122 (or so): Strange Visitor

Brand X - "Hi. I'm Brand X, UNTIL Super Science Crime specialist. I hope you don't mind me asking you to fill out a short form will you? Otherwise, if you need a place to sleep I think we can arange a room at HQ. We'll run a few quick tests and get you a clearance pass from there. Thanks for the help."
