  2. Re: Batman vs Ozzy Okee... I recant my gripe. It's a grumpy day today.
  3. Re: Batman vs Ozzy Nice one. Didn't like the Batman v Punisher thread? If you need to mock it, why not do it in the NCG forum?

  6. Re: MPD and the villian goes crazy Just one needs it and it's grandfathered to all the others. Giving all of them the Accidental Change Disadvantage will keep them popping from one personality to another. Let me try to explain my "gameplan" from a different perspective. First, build 7 characters, each 350 total points, making sure to include the following Disadvantages: 10 Accidental Change: A unique "trigger", 11- (Uncommon) 15 Psychological Limitation: Multiform Amnesia (Common, Strong) Now build your Primary or master character, making sure to include the same Disadvantages and the following power: 45 Multiform (350 Character Points in the most expensive form) (Instant Change, x8 Number of Forms); No Conscious Control (Only Effects cannot be controlled; -1), Trigger (Not sure how this should be defined; +0) Now they should bop between forms, for completely different reasons (one may change whenever you say the word "rosebud", while another changes if he sees a mailbox).
  7. Re: MPD and the villian goes crazy I've tried the Player Threads... 5 or six times. Almost had success once. Hope springs... yeah, right... who am I kidding? Lincoln is the Mecca of Husker Football, has great people, four seasons, and quiet living.
  8. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? When a source like OHOTMU states a certain lifting ability, does that translate to a "Clean and Jerk" (50% of their lifting ability)? If so, then since Cap has an 800 lb OHOTMU lifting ability, and has been recorded as bench pressing (75% of his lifting ability) at least 1100 lbs (http://www.comicboards.com/camb/view.php?rpl=050401143019 suggests it was 2200 lbs), then he should have a Hero Systems lifting ability of the greater of... 800 x 2 / 2.2 = 727 KG (24 STR) or 1100 / .75 / 2.2 = 667 KG (24 STR) or 2200 / .75 / 2.2 = 1333 KG (29 STR). Cap could carry Ricky around with his casual strength, so it doesn't matter if the Shield weighs 6 KG (12 lbs) or 12 KG (25 lbs).

  10. Re: MPD and the villian goes crazy Multiform sounds like the way to go. Each form is a different personality. Start with the Base Character - consider him the mastermind. Set this guy aside, as he'll be weaker than all the other personalities, since he pays for the multiform. Build all the other forms as individuals - don't worry too much about tying them all together. You could come up with 4 to 8 different forms - Brick, Martial Artist, Energy Projector, Metamorph... since they are all spawning from each other, I'd make sure all their powers are personal, not from a focus. I'd suggest tying to make them all 350 point characters - it'll be easier that way. One disadvantage they should all share - accidental change into another (hopefully random) personality. Let the fun begin! Once you have your spawnable personalities taken care of, you can focus in on the mastermind. First I'd cover the multiform power itself - the base cost is 1/5 of the most expensive personality, +5 points per 2x personalities. For example, my metamorph is a total of 400 points (powers & disadvantes), and I have 6 other personalities. 400/5 = 80, and 8 total personalities is another 10 points for a total of 90 character points. If Mastermind is a 350 point character, he only has 260 left to spend. Did that make any sense? Hope so. Also, I hope you have as much fun with Hero System as I do. Haven't been able to find a group in 5 years (Lincoln Nebraska is not a gaming Mecca), but this is my hobby, and I get a kick out of it after 25 (or so) years!
  11. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? I thought this was canon...Captain America's only weapon is his shield, a concave disk 2.5 feet in diameter, weighing 12 pounds. It is made of a unique Vibranium-Adimantium alloy that has never been duplicated. The Shield was cast by American metallurgist Dr. Myron MacLain, who was contracted by the U.S. government to create an impenetrable substance to use for tanks during World War II. During his experiments, MacLain combined Vibranium with an Adamantium-steel alloy he was working with and created the disc-shaped shield. MacLain was never able to duplicate the process due to his inability identify a still unknown factor that played a role in it. The shield was awarded to Captain America by the government several months after the beginning of his career.
  12. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? This was an interesting thread. It's headed downhill. Ki-Rin, nobody agrees with your interpretation of Independent. I don't, because once the Independent focus is gone, you can't have it back. It's not yours anymore, the points are gone, your character is X points weaker. So what if you retrieve it? You can only use it for one session, just like any other borrowed item. If Cap's shield were Independent, then Red Skull would steal it, he'd spend the next year tracking it down and retrieving it, THEN hand it over to the Government. Cause it's not his anymore. He could save up the points and get an exact copy of it, but he has no claim to it. Once I built the MP, and saw how cheap it was (22 points or so), I thought to myself - this is munchkin. No way I'd let it happen.
  13. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? Maybe he rolled really, really low dice? That one was GM's discretion, IMO. Or writer's fiat.
  14. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? That sounds like a block maneuver to me.
  15. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? Did you use a list or a MP? Looks like a list to me. Here's what I get... 21 Multipower, 110-point reserve, all slots Independent (-2), OIF Expendable (Extremely Difficult to obtain new Focus; -1 1/2), Restrainable (-1/2), Gestures (-1/4) 2u 1) Armor (24 PD/25 ED), Hardened (+1/4), Usable By Other (+1/4); Costs Endurance (Costs 1/2 Endurance to Activate; -1/4) 5 END 2u 2) EB 11d6, Penetrating (+1/2), Armor Piercing (+1/2); Lockout (-1/2), Range Based On STR (-1/4) 11 END 1u 3) Missile Deflection (Any Ranged Attack), Missile Reflection, Reflect At Any Target; Costs Endurance (Costs 1/2 Endurance to Activate; -1/4) 5 END
  16. Re: Best way to Build Cap's Shield? Any player using Independent should understand upfront that if they should happen to lose it, they can't "go back to the base and get a temp replacement". They better haul ass and track down whoever took it, and attempt to retrieve it. I'd head to China first. If Cap's Shield was Independent, then once it was lost, he was sans shield, even a replacement, for quite some time until he had "earned the points" to carry a new one. I understand that Independent is now in the core rule books, but it was initially part of Fantasy Hero, and used to create magic items - that's still stated as its primary function at the beginning of the second paragraph of it's description. Independent is constently referred to in repect to "wizards" creating "Magic Items" throughout the text. It never mentions using it in a Super-heroic campaign (although it doens't indicate it can't be used). Cap didn't make the shield, it was created by a scientist who was immediated sacked, so technically it's the scientist's Independent Focus. That one is a bit of a mind bender... Cap could theoretically have the shield and NEVER pay any points for it! It also states that if the focus is ever broken, the points used to creage it are gone forever. I don't think that gels with Cap's shield being re-forged. I look at it this way - if a player brought me a homegrown character that had ½ of his points in an Independent Focus, I'd send him back to the drawing board, primarily to avoid the situation when he loses it and the rest of the group shows little interest in devoting all their time chasing it down. I say this from experience - I was in said group, and we felt little sympathy for the guy who had been "Combat King" up to that point. He simply retired the character, and started a new one. He figured the 80 EXP loss more than made up for the 175 point Independent Focus loss. Now if you're playing a "Marvel Universe Campaign" like this appears to be, and character points are an aside to the characters matching the comics, then more power to you!
  17. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form If you decide to go that route, I'd use 35 1) +35 STR, Linked (Osmium Form; Lesser Power can only be used when character uses greater Power at full value; Lesser Power need not be used proportionally to Power with which it is Linked; Greater Power is Constant or in use most or all of the time; Lesser Instant Power can be used in any Phase in which greater Constant Power is in use; +0) 3 for the linked limitation, simply because you are most likely to ALWAYS be in Osmium form, so taking a 0-Sum Limitation seems correct.
  18. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form I remember reading that it was a "cool sounding" metal from the periodic table, so Osmium was chosen. Nice info on his weight... after a bit of research, I found that Colossus was listed as 500 lbs UNTIL he was written in Excalibur. The writers there did a quick check, and came to the same conclusion you listed - 2200 KG, or 4800 lbs. Sounds like -4" KNB to me.
  19. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form Oh.... Well, 25 years thinking them Unstable Molecule suits were bullet-proof... bamf. Ah, but the Black Leather costumes from the movies.. they MUST be kevlar & Leather... or maybe not. Thanks for the info!
  20. Re: Damage Reduction Question I wouldn't have a problem with A, as long as they have an acceptable EC proposal, have low PD & ED, and understand it's(the EC) shortcomings. Imagine their surprise to face a supress or drain that strips them of their major defenses!
  21. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form A note on his defenses from http://www.marveldirectory.com/xoops/modules/wordbook/entry.php?entryID=174 Now I don't know what any of that translates into, but it sure sounds tough. Ouch.
  22. Re: Calling Marvel fanatics Yeah!! Screw the wealthy, attractive deab-beat! Note: You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Fox1 again.
  23. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form I see your point. I was basing this on Colossus being "less Strong" with "better defenses" than your typical Marvel Heavy Hitter (Thing, Thor, Hulk)... Yeah, he's only 500 lbs, so -2" is much better. Yeah, I thought I remembered him not being able to survive in a vacuum for more than 1 minute (during the Brood), and he's not immortal (that I know of). Didn't he catch the Legacy virus while Colossus? I only included this because I have the Peter form wearing an UMS - but with 14- protection - he grows, it covers less. Ditching it wouldn't be a big deal, but it felt more consistent. I added quite a bit of MA maneuvers - a block, a throw, a disarm, a couple of punches... his finesse package. Plus Peter can use it in a pinch. Also included 3 HtH CSL and 3 Fastball Special Levels. Excellent!
  24. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form Here's a quick go at Colossus using Multiform - I'm especially pleased at how the Disads fell together for both forms.
  25. Re: X Men Colossus and his Osmium Form Here are some stats for Colossus. Sound right? Remember, I never actually get to play Champions (I haven't played in this millenium), so I'm doing this purely for "enjoyment". STR 70 DEX 20 CON 38 SPD 5 PD 40h/r30h ??? Too high, to low? ED 40h/r40h ??? Too high, to low? 10 Osmium Flesh: Knockback Resistance -5" 5 Osmium Flesh: Lack Of Weakness (-5) for Normal Defense 15 Osmium Form: LS (Eating: Character does not eat; Extended Breathing: 1 END per 20 Minutes; Safe in High Pressure; Safe in High Radiation; Safe in Intense Cold; Safe in Intense Heat; Sleeping: Character only has to sleep 8 hours per week) 5 Reflective Iris: Sight Group Flash Defense (5 points) 5 Unstable Molecule Suit: Armor (5 PD/5 ED); Activation 10- (-1 1/4), OIF (-1/2) 5 Xavier Training: Mental Defense (8 points total) Does Colossus have any Combat training that would translate into MA? I think so. Also, I'd assume several skill levels - especially 3 or so with fastball specials.
